In a previous article on Donald Trump, I wrote: “I think Trump favors jobs, all jobs, and will go to extremes to create them…He’ll find ways to allow the FDA to license new drugs more quickly, thus maiming and killing more Americans. He’ll cast a blind eye toward big corporate toxic GMOs/pesticides.”

I want to strengthen that warning.

First of all, the FDA isn’t being too careful in their drug approval process, as Trump team members suggest. It’s the opposite. The FDA is in the pocket of pharmaceutical companies. The president-elect should take notice of the famous July 26, 2000, review in the Journal of the American Medical Association, by Dr. Barbara Starfield, a revered public-health expert at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

Starfield concluded that FDA-approved medical drugs kill 106,000 Americans a year. That would be 1.06 MILLION deaths per decade. Speeding up their drug-approval work now, the FDA would add many MORE dead Americans to their “credit.”

On the issue of GMO/pesticide safety, I could cite many references which eradicate the official claim that these substances are safe. But let’s look at the primary facts surrounding the original approval of GMO crops (and their attendant pesticides) in the US.

When you cut through the verbiage, you arrive at two key statements. One from Monsanto and one from the FDA, the agency responsible for overseeing, licensing, and certifying new food varieties as safe.

Quoted in the New York Times Magazine (October 25, 1998, “Playing God in the Garden”), Philip Angell, Monsanto’s director of corporate communications, famously stated:

“Monsanto shouldn’t have to vouchsafe the safety of biotech food. Our interest is in selling as much of it as possible. Assuring its safety is the FDA’s job.”

From the Federal Register, Volume 57, No.104, “Statement of [FDA] Policy: Foods Derived from New Plant Varieties,” here is what the FDA had to say on this matter:

“Ultimately, it is the food producer who is responsible for assuring safety.”

This buck-passing, the direct and irreconcilable clash of these two statements, is no accident. It’s not a sign of incompetence or sloppy work or a mistake or a miscommunication. It’s a clear signal the fix was in.

There was no science to back up the claim that GMOs were safe.

My belief, at the moment, is that Trump will screw all this up completely. His focus on jobs and the economy will lead him into doing grave damage—just as Obama has, just as Hillary Clinton would have.

The corporate media, their corporate experts and allies, and their government friends have low-keyed the whole GMO-pesticide-FDA horror show for a long time.

We need a president who will go against the tide.

On these issues, Mr. Trump, through ignorance, inattention, unconcern, whatever, is on the verge of becoming a Big Pharma Big Biotech shill.

Every day in the news business is a fake day.

Headlines and articles smear lies, cover stories, distractions, diversions, and phony parroting across the landscape. And headlines that would reveal important truth are omitted.

The gullible buy in and submit themselves to prime-A mind control.

Here are three current stories I have covered in detail already:

Zika, Florida (one Miami area is the focus): the CDC has issued a travel warning. Pregnant women, or women planning to become pregnant, should avoid this area. Feds are going door asking for urine samples, to test for Zika.

But every effort in Brazil, America, Colombia and other countries to link Zika to the birth defect called microcephaly has failed. Utterly. (Zika article archive here)

The correlation between the presence of Zika and cases of microcephaly is so weak, so thin, that researchers have resorted to a bumbling “add-on” analysis. It goes this way:

“If we can find several groups in which Zika and microcephaly are barely connected at all, and combine these findings, we can say they add up to a convincing case.”

In Brazil, embarrassed researchers have simply given up trying to show a correlation between Zika and the birth defect. They simply assert the connection, despite the fact that, at best, Zika is present in perhaps one-fifth of all microcephaly cases.

By any scientific measure, this constitutes counter-evidence that Zika causes microcephaly. But it doesn’t deter the CDC or the World Health Organization. They march on, their message of unrelenting fear fed directly into the brain of the mainstream press, and out into the public. The promise? A blockbuster vaccine, and high profits for Pharma.

Shifting to Hillary Clinton: her email scandal is, at the least, a case of extreme gross negligence in the handling of classified materials. FBI Director Comey said as much, several weeks ago, as he recommended no-prosecution during a global press conference.

“She’s guilty as hell, but we shouldn’t take her to court.”

Comey, acting as if he were, suddenly, a Grand Jury, the US Attorney General, and an appellate judge, misread the Federal Penal Statute—which specifically states that intent to do harm is irrelevant, and gross negligence is the standard—and dismissed a felony case against Hillary out of hand.

Now, Bill Binney, a former high-level NSA analyst who exposed the Agency’s crimes long before Ed Snowden emerged, states that the NSA would actually have all her emails, including the ones which were deleted and never turned over to the Justice Department.

Not only that, the NSA would, as a matter of course, share this information with the FBI and the CIA. In other words, the FBI has been posturing for over a year, in its comments about the missing emails. They could have access to them with a single request.

But mainstream press outlets are ignoring these new revelations. The Hillary case is history. Nothing to see. It’s old news. She’s been exonerated. She’s good to go in her campaign to win the Presidency. That’s the unanimous mainstream consensus.

And finally, Obama has signed the Dark Act, the federal bill which guts the right of any state to clearly label food products containing GMOs. Instead, a new federal standard will be developed—a so-called Q rating system. Under this program, which may possibly be implemented in the next five years, consumers can, if they’re aware, stop shopping and use their i-phones (or an 800 number) to discover what a “Q” means for a given product. Shop all day, check up on four products.

Good luck. Monsanto wins. As I’ve detailed, Obama is the GMO President. He has appointed a whole raft of former Monsanto people to key posts in his administration. He has let more new GMO food crops in the door than any President. This, despite his nudge and wink to supporters during his first run for the White House—signaling that he was on their side, and would make sure they’d know what was in their food. It was all con all the time.

But of course, the mainstream press is giving this zero coverage. There was barely a mention the other day when he signed the new federal bill making GMO labels a cumbersome and useless piece of nonsense.

It’s a good and great thing that mainstream news is dying like a giant corpse who insists on continuing to walk down the street. The New York Times, which keeps re-financing its debt, is showing disastrous numbers for ad-sales revenue this quarter. I’m waiting for the death rattle, when all Times’ front-page stories will center on celebrities and their peccadillos. “Goofy Toofy, Reality Star, shows off her very pregnant shape on a beach in Monaco, in a tiny bikini you won’t believe.” “The British Queen’s fourth cousin’s nephew tries to grow a beard in support of unlimited European immigration.”

Yes, why not go all the way? The Times reporters would love it. Instead of channeling lies out of certified experts, they could make it all up. Low gossip is a lot easier than high gossip.

Meanwhile, pretending a Presidential candidate is innocent of a felony that could carry a 10-year sentence, opening the way to unlabeled GMO anything-and-everything, and blaming a harmless virus for a birth defect that has existed for centuries—it’s just another day at the office.

“Want to grab a few drinks after work?”

“Sure.”

“What are you working on?”

“A story about how Putin created ISIS when he was fourteen years old.”

“Sounds good. Who’s your source on it?”

“Osama Bin Laden.”

“Isn’t he dead?”

“The FBI just found a few hundred emails he sent to Putin in 1973.”

“Good show.”

Really?

In the last eight years, the global outcry against Monsanto and the other biotech giants has accelerated—but not a significant peep has emerged from the Obama White House.

And now, the bill dubbed The Dark Act is ready for Obama’s signature (see also here). It will make GMO labels on food an exclusively federal matter—and those labels will be confusing, weak, and therefore meaningless for the majority of Americans. The Dark Act is basically a free pass for Monsanto and the other biotech giants.

After his victory in the 2008 election, Obama filled key posts with Monsanto people, in federal agencies that wield tremendous force in GMO food issues—the USDA and the FDA:

At the USDA, as the director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, Roger Beachy, former director of the Monsanto Danforth Center.

As deputy commissioner of the FDA, the new food-safety-issues czar, the infamous Michael Taylor, former vice-president for public policy for Monsanto. Taylor had been instrumental in getting approval for Monsanto’s genetically engineered bovine growth hormone.

As commissioner of the USDA, Iowa governor, Tom Vilsack. Vilsack had set up a national group, the Governors’ Biotechnology Partnership, and had been given a Governor of the Year Award by the Biotechnology Industry Organization, whose members include Monsanto.

As the Agriculture Trade Representative, who would push GMOs for export, Islam Siddiqui, a former Monsanto lobbyist.

As the counsel for the USDA, Ramona Romero, who had been corporate counsel for another biotech giant, DuPont.

As the head of the USAID, Rajiv Shah, who had previously worked in key positions for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, a major funder of GMO agriculture research.

We should also remember that Obama’s Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, once worked for the Rose law firm. That firm was counsel to Monsanto.

Obama nominated Elena Kagan to the US Supreme Court. Kagan, as federal solicitor general, had previously argued for Monsanto in the Monsanto v. Geertson seed case before the Supreme Court.

The deck was stacked. Obama hadn’t simply made honest mistakes. Obama hadn’t just failed to exercise proper oversight in selecting appointees. He was staking out territory on behalf of Monsanto and other GMO corporate giants.

And now let us look at what key Obama appointees have wrought for their true bosses. Let’s see what GMO crops have walked through the open door of the Obama presidency.

Monsanto GMO alfalfa.

Monsanto GMO sugar beets.

Monsanto GMO Bt soybean.

Syngenta GMO corn for ethanol.

Syngenta GMO stacked corn.

Pioneer GMO soybean.

Syngenta GMO Bt cotton.

Bayer GMO cotton.

ATryn, an anti-clotting agent from the milk of transgenic goats.

A GMO papaya strain.

Genetically engineered salmon.

This is an extraordinary parade.

Obama was, all along, a stealth operative on behalf of Monsanto, biotech, GMOs, and corporate control of the future of agriculture.

He didn’t make that many key political appointments and allow that many new GMO crops to enter the food chain through a lack of oversight.

Nor is it coincidental that two of the Obama’s biggest supporters, Bill Gates and George Soros, purchased 900,000 and 500,000 shares of Monsanto, respectively, in 2010.

Obama has been a covert agent since the beginning.

Imposter. Charlatan. These words fit Obama. He doesn’t care that GMO food is taking over the country and the world. He obviously wants it to happen.

The sitting president of the United States, and Monsanto, DuPont, and Dow, among others, are prepared to do whatever is necessary to make GMO food dominate America.

Obama is on board.

He is the GMO president.

The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) is one the most prestigious mainstream groups in America. Quoting from its website:

“NAS is a private, non-profit society of distinguished scholars. Established by an Act of Congress, signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863, the NAS is charged with providing independent, objective advice to the nation on matters related to science and technology. Scientists are elected by their peers to membership in the NAS for outstanding contributions to research. The NAS is committed to furthering science in America, and its members are active contributors to the international scientific community. Nearly 500 members of the NAS have won Nobel Prizes, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, founded in 1914, is today one of the premier international journals publishing the results of original research.”

You’d think the major media would dutifully parrot every NAS pronouncement. And with few exceptions, you’d be right.

Here is an exception. In May, the NAS issued a comprehensive report: “Genetically Engineered Crops: Experiences and Prospects.” The report’s key finding takes in the entire period of US cultivation of GMO crops:

“The nation-wide data on maize, cotton, or soybean in the United States do not show a significant signature of genetic-technology on the rate of yield increase.” — Chapter 6, Page 66.

A less ponderous translation: the genetic engineering of crops hasn’t resulted in rising output.

Boom.

Bigger yield was the whole selling point of GMOs.

That was the innovation that was going to save the world.

That was, and is, what the grotesque hype-artist, Bill Gates, has been trying to sell Africa.

Incompetent scientists, sold-out scientists, brain-damaged scientists, scared scientists have all been assuring us that GMO crops produce much higher yields, and they’ve been accusing critics of standing in the way of progress for all, hatred of humanity, and ignorance of real science.

Suddenly, their darling of darlings, the National Academy of Sciences, is pelting them with pigeon droppings from above.

The horror.

Not higher crops yields? What? All that gene manipulation? All that health-destroying Roundup? And what is there to show for it?

Let’s see. Oh yes. Larger corporate profits.

A great deal of stage magic, a host of technical incantations, a heavy dose of shuck and jive, and poof, more money for Monsanto and Dow and the other mystical babbling biotech giants.

The text of the TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) has now been published.

This Globalist treaty will put mega-corporations even further ahead in their efforts to dominate markets and populations.

“The parts of the TPP that cover food safety are especially troubling,” states the watchdog Food and Water Watch:

“’American consumers are pushing to block the use of artificial and potentially risky processes and ingredients, like antibiotics and GMOs, but the TPP could trump these democratic efforts to improve our food supply,’ said [Wenonah] Hauter [Food and Water Watch executive director]… Agribusiness and biotech seed companies can now more easily use trade rules to challenge countries that ban GMO imports, test for GMO contamination, do not promptly approve new GMO crops or even require GMO labeling.”

The majority of Monsanto’s GMO crops are engineered to withstand huge amounts of the pesticide Roundup, and the main ingredient in Roundup is glyphosate, which the World Health Organization now lists as a “probable carcinogen.” As in: cancer.

That’s a recent finding.

But what did Monsanto know decades ago?

From GM Watch, November 6; “Monsanto’s secret studies reveal glyphosate link to cancer”:

“Monsanto has known for almost four decades that glyphosate causes cancer, according to a new paper by researchers Anthony Samsel and Stephanie Seneff.

“Samsel is the first independent researcher to examine Monsanto’s secret toxicology studies on glyphosate. He obtained the studies, which have been denied to other inquirers, via a request to his senator. With his co-researcher Dr Stephanie Seneff of MIT, he reviewed Monsanto’s data.

“Samsel and Seneff concluded that ‘significant evidence of tumours was found during these investigations’.

“However, they add, ‘to create doubt and obscure the statistical significance of inconvenient findings, which may have prevented product registration’, Monsanto introduced irrelevant historical control data from other experiments. This is data from the control animals in other unrelated experiments, which may have been carried out under widely differing conditions.

“This practice had the effect of creating experimental noise which cancelled out the statistically significant findings of increased tumours in any one experiment.

“In various cancer experiments, Samsel and Seneff found, Monsanto introduced spurious data from 3, 5, 7 and even 11 unrelated study controls to effectively eliminate results, as needed.”

Getting the picture?

The new TPP greatly benefits corporations like Monsanto, and can enable the growing and shipping of all sorts of GMO crops (laden with titanic quantities of Roundup), without labeling, without inspection, and without the power of national governments to stop this ongoing crime—even though Monsanto knew, long ago, that Roundup causes tumors.

Where is the US Justice Department? Nowhere. Where is Obama, who is desperately pushing for passage of the TPP? Nowhere.

Maybe, although we don’t know it, “the science is settled.” Roundup is actually good for you. It raises IQ, extends physical endurance, elevates mood, assures safe pregnancies, promotes freedom, ensures equality and justice for all, secretly puts money in your bank account while you’re sleeping, and makes everybody love one another right now.

Federal Judge Susan Oki Mollway just told Maui voters: you’re canceled.

Last November, Maui County passed a ballot measure that would put a stop to all local Monsanto/Dow GMO experiments, until an independent investigation could assess the harm to health.

Promptly, Monsanto and Dow sued, the result of the vote was put on hold and never enforced…and now, all these months later, the ruling has come down.

Judge Mollway decided that state and federal laws governing agriculture trump county laws.

In other words, the people have no voice.

The whole issue will now be heard on appeal, by the 9th Circuit Court.

For months, I’ve been saying this issue was never about agriculture or laws about agriculture. This is about human experimentation. Monsanto and Dow have key experimental facilities in Maui County. They’re fiddling and diddling with non-commercial GMOs and toxic pesticides in what amounts to an open-air laboratory.

The federal judge has been barking up the wrong tree. On purpose, of course, because it made it easy for her to side with Monsanto/Dow and against the Maui voters.

Let me boil it down. Again. There is whole list of GMO food crops (corruptly) approved by the federal government. Farmers can grow them and sell them. Stores can sell them to people who eat them.

But if a company (like Monsanto) is experimenting with GMO plants and pesticides which haven’t been approved, that has nothing to do with “laws about agriculture.” It has to do with “research.”

And the people who live next to the “research” and, for example, are sprayed by the pesticides, have every right to demand an investigation. Into safety.

And meanwhile, it would be a crime to allow the experiments to continue.

Analogy: Some corporation with a lab that does research on viruses decides to conduct “transmission” studies and “contagion-factor studies” in Beverly Hills, on traffic-clogged Santa Monica Boulevard.

People object.

A judge rules that state laws on granting drivers’ licenses trump the objections.

Yes, it’s that crazy, that absurd.

But of course, logic plays no role here. Money does. Money and power and political clout and corporate-government partnerships. And Big-Ag control of the food supply. And a sold-out judiciary.

This Maui case has to be rethought, refiled, and publicized widely on the basis of dangerous human experimentation.

In a previous article, I asked: on what legal basis must US (and other nations’) legislators obey a code of silence about the Trans-Pacific Partnership treaty?

They can only read partial drafts and summaries of the trade pact, and then they can’t tell anyone what they’ve read.

It’s a version of “pass the bill and then you can read it and find out what’s in it.”

No problem, except a significant chunk of 12 nations’ futures are riding on the details of this treaty, which, from the leaks we’ve seen, is a boon for mega-corporations and a nightmare for populations.

In the US, Senators, who must vote for the treaty in order for it to pass, go into sealed rooms and look at text—excerpts from drafts, summations—and then emerge, knowing they can be arrested if they open their mouths to anyone.

A source close to the treaty negotiations has given me the legal basis for this law of omertà:

National Security classifications that designate levels of secrecy for government data.

What? That old justification?

Yes. The relevant laws and regulations are long-standing. They are enforced by the Department of Justice. Various levels of classified data are set by agencies within the Executive Branch.

I asked this source (he has read TPP draft-sections and summaries) what the punishment would be for revealing what he knows.

He laughed. “I’m not about to find out,” he said.

Applying “Secret,” “Top Secret,” or other classifications to a treaty that must be voted on, in order to become law, is a unique situation.

It’s one thing to say a federal scientist can’t publicly publish details on how to build an H-bomb. It’s quite another thing to say US Senators can’t reveal, to the American people, what they’re voting on.

There is no Constitutional basis for such an assertion. In fact, it’s a direct violation of the Separation-of-Powers principle.

By assigning National Security secrecy-status to the details of the TPP, the Executive Branch is arbitrarily muzzling the Congress.

We’re witnessing a stunning farce.

Knowing they’ll be arrested, Senators should be spilling details of the TPP to anyone who’ll listen. They should be intentionally creating a Constitutional crisis.

They should be blowing the whistle on the covert attempt to put all Americans under the gun of a secret treaty.

The Matrix Revealed

Oh, but wait. That would be a Senate with conscience, and with balls. Not this menagerie of sold-out puppets and twits and party hacks and drunks and shysters and blackmail bait.

That would be a Senate out of some old Hollywood movie, which as a body suddenly rises up in a moment of great decision.

Obama has the chutzpah to tell dissenting members of Congress their criticisms of the TPP “aren’t specific.” He’s baiting them and tickling them, because he knows they’re not allowed to be specific about what they know.

Is there even one Senator who will accept the dare, who’ll step forward, in front of cameras, and recite everything he knows about what’s in the TPP?

If the FBI arrests him, that would set the stage for a fantastic courtroom scene.

We could use a good Constitutional crisis.

It could create a sudden acceleration of fizz in the rotting decaying swamp of Washington DC. It could loosen a few tongues, and a few more choice stench-ridden secrets could come spilling out.

But oh, there I go again, talking about a fictional Senate, one that would require men and women, not ruined shells.

Not hideous caricatures, pretending to be honorable by obsequiously obeying “see something, say nothing.”

“Anybody can fake scientific results. But to be believed, you want a prestigious organization behind you with a billion-dollar budget and access to compliant reporters. You want to manipulate technical language. You want to keep saying how much you care about people. And then you also want to get down and dirty when you have to, and threaten and coerce your in-house scientific dissenters who won’t go along with the fakery. Cut their pay, demote them, fire them, ruin their careers and lives. This is all standard procedure in the major leagues of science. I’ve watched it happen.” (The Underground, Jon Rappoport)

Wonder how a federal agency as large as the USDA can keep claiming pesticides like Roundup are safe?

Wonder how the truth can be kept from leaking out?

Wonder how this agency, tasked with protecting the public from unsafe food, can turn fake science into “real science” like clockwork?

Wonder how, in Hawaii, Monsanto and Dow can defend their toxic, open-air, pesticide experiments as “approved by the USDA?”

Government scientists who believe in exposing the truth are being targeted.

Ten scientists at the US Dept. of Agriculture are on such a target list, because their research findings would harm big-corporate agriculture. (See Common Dreams, 5/5/15, “Suppressing Science for Monsanto?”)

PEER (Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility), a non-profit group, knows who these scientists are, but they aren’t talking. Not yet. They’re trying to gain protection for the researchers.

Here is a March 26 release from PEER, “USDA Urged to Shield Its Scientists From Harassment”:

“Scientists within the U.S. Department of Agriculture are subjected to management pressure and retaliation for research threatening agribusiness interests…”

“PEER has received reports concerning USDA scientists ordered to retract studies, water down findings, remove their name from authorship and endure long indefinite delays in approving publication of papers that may be controversial. Moreover, [USDA] scientists who are targeted by [big-Ag] industry complaints find themselves subjected to disruptive investigations, disapprovals of formerly routine requests, disciplinary actions over petty matters and intimidation from [USDA] supervisors focused on pleasing ‘stakeholders’.”

The “stakeholders,” of course, would include huge biotech companies. Like Monsanto.

In a separate PEER petition to the USDA, we find this statement:

“The USDA Scientific Integrity Policy actively enables [USDA] agency managers to suppress and alter scientific work products for their policy implications, regardless of their technical merit. It also appears clear that agribusiness interests, such as Monsanto Corporation, have access to top [USDA] agency managers and are invited to lodge complaints and concerns about the published work of [USDA] agency scientists. Significantly, the [USDA] Policy lacks any mechanism to effectively challenge this political manipulation of science.”

The PEER petition goes on to describe what truth-telling USDA scientists face:

“USDA scientists have been subjected to Directives not to publish data on certain topics of particular sensitivity to [big-Agriculture] industry;

“Orders to rewrite scientific articles already accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal to remove sections which could provoke [big-Ag] industry objections;

“Summons to meet with [USDA] Secretary Vilsack in an effort to induce retraction of a paper that drew the ire of [big-Ag] industry representatives;

“Orders to retract a paper after it had been accepted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The paper could only be published if the USDA scientist removed his authorship thus leaving only the names of authors unassociated with USDA;

“Demotion from supervisory status and a reprimand after the scientist provided testimony before Congress that did not reflect [USDA] agency preferences;

“Disruptive and lengthy internal investigations to search out any irregularity that could be used for management leverage against the targeted scientist;

“Suspensions without pay and other disciplinary actions for petty matters, such as minor irregularities in travel paperwork;

“Inordinate, sometimes indefinite, delays in approving submission for publication of scientific papers that may be controversial;

“Restrictions on topics that USDA scientists may address in conference presentations;

“Threats by USDA managers to damage the careers of [USDA] scientists whose work triggers [big-Ag] industry complaints.”

“USDA scientists working on topics with direct relevance to [big-Ag] industry interests are under constant pressure not to do anything to upset these important ‘stakeholders.’ Rather than shield staff scientists from [big-Ag] industry influence, USDA managers amplify it.”

This is a witch hunt.

The notion of believing anything the USDA says or publishes is absurd.

Claims of the inherent safety and value of GMO food? Claims about the safety of pesticides? The assertion that corporations like Monsanto and Dow aren’t favored USDA clients?

Smoke blowing in the wind.

Claims that the USDA is serving the public interest?

A fairy tale.

The Hawai’i Center for Food Safety has just released a major report, Pesticides in Paradise. It details an ongoing chemical assault on the people and the land of Hawaii.

I’ll present several key quotes which, in a half-sane world, would force government officials to take immediate and drastic action to stop the onslaught and punish the corporate offenders with lengthy prison sentences.

Yet, right now, the voters of Maui County, who scored a victory last November, who created a new law temporarily blocking Monsanto and Dow from continuing these inhuman experiments, while a true investigation uncovered all the secret details…the voters of Maui are embroiled in a federal court room to make their entirely legitimate vote stand up.

Similar legislative actions on Kauai and the Big Island have been struck down.

As you read the quotes below, keep in mind we are talking about human experimentation with no informed consent from the population. This is not, for the most part, commercial agriculture.

From the report, Pesticides in Paradise:

“Since 1987 Hawai’i has hosted more cumulative [pesticide] field trials (3,243) than any other state. In 2014 alone, 178 different GE field tests were conducted on over 1,381 sites in Hawai’i (vs. only 175 sites in California).”

“DuPont-Pioneer applied 90 different pesticide formulations containing 63 different active ingredients on Kaua’i from 2007 to 2012. The company sprayed on two-thirds (65%) of the days over this period and made from 8.3 to 16 applications per application day on average.”

“The third-most frequently applied class of pesticides is also among the most toxic: the organophosphate insecticide chlorpyrifos was sprayed an average of 91 days each year.” [The EPA has written, concerning organophosphates and carbamates: “Both of these classes of older insecticides are very highly acutely toxic to bees and…are also very highly acutely toxic to humans and wildlife.”]

“Restricted Use Pesticides (RUP) [the most toxic pesticides] sales data for Kaua’i show that 22 RUPs containing 18 active ingredients were applied in agriculture from 2010 to 2012.”

“The American Academy of Pediatrics recently published a major report entitled ‘Pesticide Exposure in Children’ that reviewed 195 medical studies; their chief concerns were that pesticides are linked to childhood cancers, neurobehavioral and cognitive deficits, adverse birth outcomes, and asthma.”

“In adult populations, pesticide exposure has been linked to Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, bladder and colon cancers, Parkinson’s disease, depression, and disrupting our hormonal or endocrine systems.”

Corporate wars against populations don’t require Congressional approval or Presidential assertions of power. They only need the acquiescence of government. Silent permission. The pretension of ignorance. And oh yes, sold-out complicit major media.

“So we found stuff… but we don’t know what it means.”

On Thursday, April 30th, the Shaka Movement filed a brief with the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

(Appeal No. 15-15641, IN THE UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE NINTH CIRCUIT, Appeal from the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii Case No. 1:14-CV-00511-SOM-BMK)

Essentially, it argued for an end to delays and, instead, some real action toward implementing what the voters of Maui demanded last November:

A temporary stoppage of all Monsanto/Dow GMO experimentation in Maui County, and a true investigation of what those corporations have been doing to endanger human health.

In that brief to the Ninth Circuit Court, there is the following statement about the previous work of Hawaii Dept. of Agriculture inspectors—work done before the November vote.

Buckle up. It’s a shocker:

“…no testing has ever been conducted in Maui County to demonstrate that the GMO practices are not harmful, nor are there any permitting requirements addressing these harms. (2ER 158-159). The federal and state agencies that Monsanto and Dow claim are overseeing these activities admittedly do not protect against any of these harms, nor do they have any rules setting standards for safety. (2ER 021-027). According to the Hawaii Department of Agriculture (“HDOA”), the agency which Monsanto and Dow have pointed to as the agency responsible for regulating the safety of these activities:

“’We looked into stream sediments specifically for glyphosate, for Roundup, and we found Roundup in all of the samples that we took. All in all, we found 20 herbicides, 11 insecticides, 6 fungicides, 7 locations with glyphosate but no EPA benchmarks, there are no EPA benchmarks for sediment, for glyphosate. So we found stuff but, frankly, we don’t know what it means and no one in, we don’t know how to compare that to any kind of health standards. So there’s additional work that needs to be done there. (2ER 268)’”

No guiding rules, no guiding standards, and no clue about what these inspectors were finding, other than glyphosate, which the World Health Organization has just declared a probably carcinogen.

The bottom line is: what the hell is going on in Maui County? Who’s minding the store? Apparently, no one. And the spraying of experimental pesticides continues in the open-air laboratory of Maui. The federal judge in the case, Susan Oki Mollway, appears to be doing everything in her power to cater to Monsanto and Dow, and discount, step on, and destroy a legal vote calling for a real investigation.

Justice? Never heard of it.
