Hawaii is ground zero: banning, not labeling GMOs

by Jon Rappoport

NoMoreFakeNews.com

Let me put it this way. It would mean a lot more than winning a few GMO-labeling initiatives.

“The right to choose what’s in your food” does not stop the ongoing gene drift, from GMO crops to non-GMO, across America. This drift is well on its way to making organic crops into genetically modified food, whether we like it or not.

And the blown-on-wind spread of tons and tons of Roundup, the poisonous Monsanto herbicide so “vital” to GMO farming…well, that’s straight-out chemical warfare.

As it continues, what organic farmer will be able to guarantee his crops are pristine?

In Hawaii, we have a far different situation. Voters on the Big Island, Maui, and Kauai, against all odds, have managed to pass measures that would block Monsanto (and other biotech giants) from continuing their GMO/pesticide operations.

In other words, ban, not label.

However, on the Big Island and Kauai, the corrupt court system has (so far) rendered the voters’ decisions null and void. On Maui, the same tactic is in progress.

Hawaii isn’t just a small biotech center. Huge numbers of GMO seeds are produced and shipped out around the world.

Monsanto, Dow, Pioneer, and BASF are doing intensive R&D to develop new GMO seeds and new poisonous pesticides (which they are spraying on the people of Hawaii).

Cutting off their work in Hawaii would be a major victory.

However, if you did an overall survey of news sites, including independent centers of reporting, you’d find GMO labeling has been garnering far more coverage than the bans enacted in several US counties or the struggle in Hawaii.

Why is that?

One reason: the anti-Monsanto movement in America has been shaped and funded to be about product-labeling.

Because it’s about shopping and choosing and buying and consuming, it seems to have more “broad appeal.”

But how well is that soft approach going to work in the face of the biotech fait accompli—gene drift plus pesticide drift, blanketing the whole country, penetrating all food crops?

According to “received wisdom,” banning GMOs and their attendant pesticides is a much harder sell.

In past articles, I’ve outlined an attack strategy against the biotech giants that could have worked at the outset of the anti-GMO movement—and could still work. I won’t run it all down here. Suffice to say, it is predicated on the understanding that we are in a late-game situation, and the clock is ticking.

The biotech crime bosses are running the show—our show—into the ground. The sane response is to go all-out on the offensive. This is miles beyond avoiding a potato in the market labeled “GMO.”

And by the way, who would be in charge of putting those GMO labels on foods? The state governments where the labeling initiatives pass? Really? You would trust that process to be both honest and competent?

The leaders of the labeling movement apparently welcome the prospect of Monsanto and their allies suing states in which labeling initiatives or laws pass. This is a chance to expose the shady tactics of the biotech giants.

I would point out, though, that such court battles would ultimately impact only the labeling issue, nothing more.

Yes, it would represent another small step in educating the public about these monster corporations—but small steps that come too late are not useful.

power outside the matrix

In Hawaii, however, there is an authentic spark. The fight centers around the possibility of a partial ban on GMOs and dangerous pesticides—in the heart of the enemy’s camp.

The outcome would be helped considerably, if enough people shifted their focus to the Islands, where the real action is. Now.

In Hawaii, the reality-egg has cracked. The Monsanto facade of GMO/pesticide safety and humane intentions has been blatantly rejected, on the record, by voters.

This has set off a parade of biotech/political/judicial/land-baron counter-attacks. The players are, as usual, arrogant, self-entitled, devious, slimy, fake Jesuses who want to save the world and lift up the less fortunate and less informed.

“We’ll help you. Just let us run things.

Hawaii could be a candle that is quickly snuffed out, or it could become a sun that illuminates the truth.

The point is, the struggle there is about the right thing. Stopping the poisoners. Not labeling them.

GMO: the great land mob of Hawaii

GMO: the great land mob of Hawaii

by Jon Rappoport

December 4, 2014

NoMoreFakeNews.com

Octopus. Land. Money. Control.

I’m going to describe a few tentacles. There are more. There are always more. But these are important.

Why am I bothering? Because you’ll get some idea of the forces arrayed against the people of Hawaii, who have passed measures to limit GMOs and pesticides on Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island, only to see their votes nullified in two court judgments and temporarily blocked in the third case, Maui, pending a judge’s decision.

Okay. Let’s start with an outfit called Hawaii BioEnergy. It’s unclear what they actually do. They say they plan to supply enormous amounts of biomass-energy for electricity in the Islands.

Their members? Kamehameha Schools, Grove Farm, and Maui Land & Pineapple. Three heavy actors.

Read this stunning statement from Hawaii BioEnergy’s website (FAQ page):

“How much land does this consortium control? Kamehameha Schools owns 365,760 acres throughout the state, Grove Farm owns approximately 38,000 acres on the island of Kauai and Maui Land & Pineapple owns approximately 22,000 acres on the island of Maui. Together the three entities own over ten percent of the land in Hawai‘i (and a much larger percentage of arable land) with significant holdings on the islands of Maui, Kaua‘i, Oahu, and Hawai‘i.”

It’s rare you see such a bald statement of power out in the open.

Kamehameha Schools leases 1033 acres to Monsanto on the Kawailoa Plantation, on the north shore of Oahu.

What about Grove Farm on Kauai? The company is owned by Steve Case, the founder of AOL. Grove Farm leases land to Syngenta, Dow, and Pioneer, who develop GMO corn seeds there and spray all sorts of “restricted use” (toxic) pesticides, which drift across the Island.

To get a sense of Steve Case’s position on this, here is his statement as reported by the NY Times (10/7/13, “Unease in Hawaii’s Cornfields”): “Our [farming] tenants comply with all local laws and will comply with any new ordinances that pass.”

In other words: “who cares?”

The CEO of Grove Farm is Warren Haruki. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the First Hawaiian Bank. On its website, the Bank publishes this glowing statement about Monsanto and the other biotech giants operating in Hawaii:

“Kauai is an ideal research laboratory for the seed corn industry…there are currently five parent seed corn operations on the island: [biotech GM giants] Pioneer Hi-Bred…Syngenta, Dow Monsanto, and BASF. Dow Agrosciences recently leased 3,400 acres of former sugar land…”

That’s not all. Warren Haruki is also the chairman and CEO of the Maui Land and Pineapple Company, mentioned above as one of the three components of land-giant Hawaii BioEnergy.

Haruki is, in fact, on the board of Hawaii BioEnergy.

He’s the past chairman of the University of Hawaii Foundation, the fund-raising arm of the University, which has received generous grants from Monsanto and Dow.

Haruki’s connections to the biotech-friendly First Hawaiian Bank and the University of Hawaii Foundation are mirrored by Faye Kurren, who is the wife of Federal Magistrate Barry Kurren. As I’ve detailed in previous articles, Barry Kurren overrode the anti-GMO/pesticide vote of the people in both the Kauai and Maui cases, and is in charge of the pending Maui case.

In October of this year, Haruki, as the head of Maui Land and Pineapple Co., carried out a sale of 244 acres of land on Maui to the State of Hawaii. To obtain the money, the Hawaii State Legislature had to pass a bill explicitly authorizing the expenditure. Those who believe the State of Hawaii will come to the rescue of anti-Monsanto voters on Maui should take notice: Haruki and Hawaii are business partners.

power outside the matrix

Finally, for now, think about this. Hawaii BioEnergy controls over 10% of the land of Hawaii, and a much greater percentage of arable land. According to the NY Times (10/7/13, “Unease in Hawaii’s Cornfields”), “Monsanto, Pioneer, Syngenta, Dow and BASF [all GMO/pesticide giants] occupy a combined 25,000 [nearly 10%] out of the state’s total of 280,000 acres of agricultural land, with operations on Kauai, Oahu, Maui and Molokai.”

Since Hawaii BioEnergy is a good friend and partner to these biotech giants, we are talking about a land-controlling octopus.

This is an element of the force arrayed against the people of Hawaii who want life and health and voted for it.

Taking a look at the funding sources behind the successful Maui vote to block GMOs and pesticides (before Monsanto sued to nullify the vote), I notice that, among all the celebrities who have homes on Maui, the total of their contributions to the cause was:

Not a dime, not a nickel, not a penny.

Nothing.

Are they ignorant of what’s going on in their back yard? Or are they afraid that supporting efforts to ban GMOs and dangerous pesticides could spell career-damage?

Kauai: Monsanto Frankenstein Island, celeb homeowners

Kauai: Frankenstein Monsanto Island, celeb homeowners

by Jon Rappoport

December 1, 2014

NoMoreFakeNews.com

Nutshell background: on both Kauai and Maui, voters decided to block Monsanto GMO-pesticide research and experiments, in which the population is the innocent bystander.

The people spoke.

And then their votes were corruptly overturned in court (see also the NY Times coverage of this story). The Maui case is ongoing.

On Kauai, there is pesticide spraying, and spraying, and more spraying, every day. The Dow/Monsanto chemicals are “restricted-use,” which means even the government considers them highly toxic.

We’re talking about hundreds of chemicals. Some are not even known. They’re super-secret proprietary compounds owned by the nozzle-spouting corporations.

In addition to the 120 or so films that have been shot on Kauai, with crews moving in and out, there are some big-time celebrities who own homes on this Frankenstein Monsanto/Dow Island.

Julia Roberts.

Ben Stiller.

Bette Midler.

Pierce Brosnan.

Drew Barrymore.

Natalie Merchant.

Do they have any idea what’s going on, what they’re being exposed to?

If not, they should be informed.

They could talk to the people of Kauai and the Shaka Movement, get taken to school, learn a few things. They could speak out.

They bought homes for solace, retreat, pleasure…but it turned out they were and are in the middle of a chemical warfare zone.

Think I’m exaggerating?

The document is: “Kaua’i Agricultural Good Neighbor Program RUP Use Reporting: Aggregate usage of Restricted Use Pesticides as reported through the Kaua’i Agricultural Good Neighbor Program.”

It’s a blow-by-blow day-by-day record.

Yes, paradise has been turned into Frankenstein Island.

Oprah has a house on Monsanto-pesticide-poison Maui

by Jon Rappoport

December 1, 2014

(To join our email list, click here.)

Oprah.

“I love, love, love my house,” she says. “It’s a gem, so sweet and exquisite. Such a real, normal house. It feels like a nice blanket. A lovely and soft cashmere one.” (Daily Caller, 1/6/14, “Michelle Obama spending extended vacation at Oprah’s Maui home”)

Michelle Obama spent a few days there with Oprah in January. Michelle, of the organic gardens and healthy food.

The two Os don’t seem to be aware (or care) that Monsanto and Dow, every day, are pumping “restricted use” (highly toxic) pesticides into the air on Maui, or that voters recently blocked further GMO/pesticide experiments on the Islandonly to have Monsanto and Dow sue them, saying they have no right to live healthy lives.

President Obama and Michelle have vacationed at another house on Maui as well.

Let’s see. What other famous people have homes on Monsanto/Dow’s poison factory called Maui?

Clint Eastwood.

Woody Harrelson.

Owen Wilson.

Willie Nelson.

Kris Kristofferson.

Shane Victorino (MLB outfielder).

Chris Berman (ESPN).

Steven Tyler.

In addition to her house, Oprah also owns 63 acres of land on the Island.

I’m going to take a wild guess: these people didn’t move to Maui for the express purpose of breathing the pesticides.

Somebody might want to tap the celebs on the shoulder and mention what is going on under and inside their noses.

Maui is one of Monsanto/Dow’s chief research centers, because it has four growing seasons. These corporations use (own) the Island to develop new GMO seeds and new chemicals for spraying GMO crops.

It’s not a little deal. It’s a big deal.

For the celebs, and of course for all the people of Maui (and the tourists), this isn’t just an “issue.” They’re there. They’re breathing poison.

Informed, the famous stars might have a few things to say. And the press might cover it.

“Make my day, Monsanto.”

—Instead of just strolling through the land and pretending it’s still paradise.

Note to China and Russia: did you import Depopulation Corn?

by Jon Rappoport

December 1, 2014

(To join our email list, click here.)

It’s been called contraceptive corn and spermicidal corn. A San Diego company called Epicyte developed it.

Here’s a brief backgrounder from The Guardian, Sept. 9, 2001; “GM corn set to stop man spreading his seed,” by Robin McKie:

“Scientists have created the ultimate GM crop: contraceptive corn. Waiving fields of maize may one day save the world from overpopulation.

“The pregnancy prevention plants are the handiwork of the San Diego biotechnology company Epicyte, where researchers have discovered a rare class of human antibodies that attack sperm.

“By isolating the genes that regulate the manufacture of these antibodies, and by putting them in corn plants, the company has created tiny horticultural factories that make contraceptives.

“’We have a hothouse filled with corn plants that make anti-sperm antibodies,’ said Epicyte president Mitch Hein.

“…The company, which says it will not grow the maize near other crops, says it plans to launch clinical trials of the corn in a few months.”

I love that last line. Gene drift from plant to plant, field to field, food product to food product? Apparently, Epicyte never heard of it. Every food scientist in the world knows about it, but not Epicyte.

So what happened to the company?

In 2004, it was bought out by Biolex, a North Carolina biotech firm. Then, in 2012, Biolex filed for bankruptcy. Before it did, it sold some of its technology to Synthon, a Dutch drug company that makes Paxil, known for causing birth defects.

The depopulation corn technology? It could be floating around in a number of places by now.

In April of this year, Russia announced it would ban imports of GMO food products. By the end of July, China had stopped importing corn from the US.

Of course, no mention was made of Depopulation Corn. Russia and China are fully aware of, what shall we call them, the conventional dangers of GMO food.

However, China and Russia might check on the “other thing” while they’re at it—the spermicidal genes—to see whether they’ve been importing that type of corn.

You might think China would welcome Depop Corn. I beg to differ. If they’re going to do Depop, they want to engineer it themselves. And then there is the fact that corn is omnipresent in hundreds of thousands, even millions of processed food products. Chinese leaders themselves would thus become subject to Depop without even knowing it.

power outside the matrix

(To read about Jon’s collection, Power Outside The Matrix, click here.)

And what about the USA? Why haven’t I mentioned it?

Because in America, the high-minded campaign is all about labeling GMOs, not banning them. It’s embarrassing.

And with gene drift, in which all sorts of biotech genes float on the wind across the land, and settle into plants of every kind, to say nothing of factories, where processed food is manufactured, what are the chances that labels are going to save the day?

Several counties in the US have enacted bans on growing GMO crops, and as I’ve been detailing, the voters of Maui recently struck a major blow and decided to stop Monsanto and Dow from launching new GMO experiments.

But Monsanto and Dow immediately sued, and the county government of Maui is on their side—and against their own voters.

Press coverage of this ongoing battle is weak, soft and small.

The majority of anti-GMO activists in the US have been brought into the labeling movement, because they think and hope that Shopping Moms will stage a revolution and bring Monsanto and Dow to their knees.

The Moms, that is, who aren’t too busy with their husbands trying to get pregnant through exotic high-tech strategies, because, for some odd reason, the normal time-tested methods aren’t working.

Once-in-a-lifetime Hawaii vacation amidst the pesticides

Once-in-a-lifetime Hawaii vacation amidst the pesticides

You and the kids will love it!

by Jon Rappoport

December 1, 2014

NoMoreFakeNews.com

Recent court cases on Kauai and the Big Island have supported Dow and Monsanto, against the wishes of local voters. The outcome: these companies will be permitted to continue their poisonous experiments with GMOs and pesticides. A similar case is pending in Maui County. The same Judge who screwed Kauai and the Big Island is planning to screw Maui.

Therefore, I propose new text for Hawaii Tourism Authority promotions:

Dear World:

An incomparable experience awaits you on our Island paradise.

Although it is true that Dow and Monsanto are spraying “restricted use” pesticides, and these highly toxic chemicals drift on the balmy breezes…

And although you may be drinking and eating and bathing and swimming and reclining up-close and personal with these chemicals…

And although no one will claim responsibility (birth defects have been reported)…

Take a chance. Roll the dice. We have many fine doctors and hospitals to treat acute episodes of pesticide-exposure.

The billion-dollar Kamehameha Schools Trust leases a thousand acres to Monsanto on Oahu. If the Trust trusts Monsanto, shouldn’t you?

Go for it. A vacation should be an adventure.

With these pesticides being launched on Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Lanai, Molokai, and the Big Island, you can duck, bob, and weave for two weeks…

And that edge of risk will put you in the right frame of mind to view every healthy moment as a gift.

Be sure to explain this to the kids, so they, too, can share your excitement.

We may not have Disneyland, but taking the real-life Hawaii ride is much more challenging.

Book early and avoid the rush.

Oxygen tanks optional.

Come visit…where the bad and the beautiful mingle in a fervent stew of danger.

Long-term damage to health? We call that “Island memories that will last a lifetime.”

In the past year or so, voters on Kauai, the Big Island, and Maui opted to stop Dow and Monsanto from continuing their GMO/pesticide experiments. Fortunately, a federal magistrate struck down those efforts in the first two cases, and he is doing his best to seal a victory on Maui.

That means, when you arrive for your vacation, the pesticide nozzles will operating full-bore, saturating the environment and thus providing you with the metabolic, hormonal, and neurological insults you yearn for, so you can try to traverse a tight-rope of thrills and chills above an abyss of adrenal collapse.

It’s Hawaii. It’s toxic. Come see us.

—end proposed Tourism Authority text—

power outside the matrix

Yes, tourism is the sleeping giant in Hawaii. As long as visitors are unaware of, or don’t care about, the pesticide threats on the Islands, the big snooze continues.

If that changes, however, then Monsanto and Dow will find themselves in a new position. No long merely enemies of the people, but enemies of money.

Is Federal Judge on Hawaii ready to torpedo tourism?

by Jon Rappoport

November 28, 2014

NoMoreFakeNews.com

A Judge trying to save Dow and Monsanto and their toxic GMO/pesticide experiments is one thing; but there is a much bigger industry in Hawaii:

Tourism.

I’m sure Judge Barry Kurren and his wife, Faye, know some of the heavy hitters in that billion-dollar business.

Well, look at it this way: If the Judge rules against the people of Maui, who just voted to stop Dow and Monsanto…

And if tourists begin to realize how many Dow/ Monsanto experimental toxic pesticides continue floating around the Islands…

And if they book their vacations elsewhere…

Eyes will turn. Glances will become accusing stares.

“Judge, why did you let Dow and Monsanto keep spraying that crap? For all I know, some of it has drifted on to the grounds of my hotel. It might be in the water. Reservations are down. People are figuring out what’s going on.”

Yes. Those sparkling beaches, waving palms, and sunsets in the travel brochures? What if pesticides are in the sand, in the fronds, in the air?

Not the just the usual poisons, but instead the experimental ones that governments restrict, because they’re extra nasty. The ones Dow and Monsanto have been using day after day after day.

It’s time for the tourism moguls on Hawaii to realize their goose is being cooked, and it doesn’t smell good.

Realize it and do something about it.

Then there is also the construction industry.

A prospective client tells a Maui property manager: “I’m backing out. No sale. I’d rather buy a condo on the dark side of the moon.”

Tainted Federal Judge just screwed the people of the Big Island

Tainted Federal Judge just screwed the people of the Big Island

by Jon Rappoport

November 26, 2014

NoMoreFakeNews.com

And he’ll do it again to the people of Maui, who voted to block Dow and Monsanto from continuing GMO/pesticide experiments on their Island.

Read my previous articles (archive here) about Judge Barry Kurren and his wife’s connections to Dow and Monsanto, via The Nature Conservancy and First Hawaiian Bank.

Here’s the latest ruling, just now, from Judge Kurren. AP: “Federal judge rules against Big Island GMO law”:

“A federal judge has ruled that Hawaii County can’t enforce a law restricting genetically engineered crops because it’s pre-empted by state law.

“U.S. Magistrate Judge Barry Kurren’s order issued Wednesday is similar to his earlier decision invalidating Kauai County’s law on pesticides and genetically modified crops.”

Pre-empted by state law. Wrong jurisdiction. Can’t help you.

Kurren is currently overseeing the lawsuit filed by Monsanto and Dow against Maui for daring to vote for health, life, and freedom from GMOs and pesticides. He’ll screw Maui, too.

A note to the lawyers for the good guys—forget the legal niceties. Get moving. File all sorts of motions. A motion to remove Judge Kurren from the case. A motion to investigate corruption in the judiciary. A motion to shove those “pre-empting” state and federal laws aside because they were originally passed on false pretenses and fake science and thus deceived the legislators who voted for them and the executives who signed them.

Start a legal ruckus. Assert that the people being harmed by the GMOs and pesticides have the First Right. That Right cannot be squashed. That Right comes before any law or regulation. Otherwise, the whole meaning and intent of the US Constitution is denied.

This isn’t the time to count beans or split legal hairs. Do you see that? Can you see that?

Exposed: the Judge in the Monsanto-Maui lawsuit is tainted

by Jon Rappoport

November 26, 2014

(To join our email list, click here.)

In a previous article, I ran down Judge Barry Kurren’s wife’s connections to big biotech in Hawaii.

Now I have more. Much more.

Judge Kurren is overseeing the Monsanto/Dow lawsuit against Maui, where the people recently voted to halt Monsanto/Dow GMO research.

Does the Judge have a conflict of interest?

Is the Pope Catholic?

Until at least the fall of 2011, Judge Kurren’s wife, Faye, was a trustee of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) (twitter), a 6-billion-dollar environmental group.

TNC specializes in working with mega-corporations, who donate major money, in return for receiving TNC’s “good housekeeping seal of approval” as friends of the environment.

It’s all very cozy.

In 2011, TNC leveraged a blockbuster deal. Dow pledged a $10 million donation. In exchange, Dow could forthwith use the TNC logo on its site and all its products.

That’s like painting a cobra’s hood with Mr. Rogers’ face.

This would be the same Dow whose GMO/pesticide experiments on Maui the voters decided to stop.

The voter stoppage provoked the lawsuit from Dow and Monsanto.

Faye’s husband Barry is the Judge in the case.

Faye was a trustee at TNC, who took $10 million from Dow.

So…what are the chances Faye’s husband will step on Dow’s face in the lawsuit?

Getting the picture?

There’s more.

power outside the matrix

TNC’s business council includes luminaries like Monsanto, Coca Cola, and of course, Dow.

Among TNC’s corporate funders: again, Dow; Coke, DuPont, Pepsi.

Could the ban-GMO movement ask for more vicious enemies?

Search the extensive TNC website and try to find one negative mention of GMOs or toxic pesticides in their “championing of the environment.”

And what about the boss at TNC?

The CEO is Mark Tercek, former managing partner at what Matt Taibbi calls the “great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money”:

Goldman Sachs.

Tercek is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the vampire squid’s brother.

Tercek writes: “We would also be smart to put more focus on making GMO technology available to lower-income farmers, given the potential benefits that climate-resilient GMO crops could bring to the developing world.”

“Climate-resilient.” Sure. What’s wrong with those damn crops that keep demanding decent weather? Fix them with new genes from Dow. Can’t wait for food that doesn’t need water or topsoil.

To repeat: Faye Kurren, Judge Kurren’s wife, was a TNC trustee.

Case closed.

Find a new Judge.

This one’s tainted.
