My personal consulting services: creative solutions

Here are three articles I’ve written about my personal consulting services. They touch on the inherent power of the individual to invent the future he profoundly desires:
ONE: I’ve worked with a number of private clients over the years. It’s been inspiring to see them find buried dreams and visions and pour energy into their fulfillment.
When I use the term “creative solutions,” I mean solutions to life itself. Because life wants to create. Creating is, to the spirit, what breathing is to the body.
Consulting has also given me the opportunity to see the uniqueness of every individual. I don’t apply a one-size-fits-all system or protocol. It’s the uniqueness that is the source of energy and vision.
When you come right down to it, every person on the planet is different. Systems and organizations don’t recognize that.
If we want to look at a root reason for the troubles that societies and civilizations encounter, there it is. Structures are put in place to produce sameness. Sameness of thought, response, and action. Whereas, the truth is, every person has his/her own take on reality. It is that personal point of view which gives birth to creative solutions.
My work with private clients has reinforced and expanded that notion. Discovering someone else’s point of view is invigorating, especially when it is backed up by their desire to make something, do something, create something in the world.
There is no reason to try to impose a synthetic and artificial point of view on another person. He/she already has, at some level, a perspective that is dynamic, even if, at present, it only exists in potential form.
Covered up by layers of sameness, the world is composed of individuals, every one of whom would grasp his/her dreams and visions and work to make them come true.
For some, grasping the unique vision results in immediate action. For others, pulling the trigger on action is the challenge. But in either case, the opportunity is there.
The great social and political struggles of history were aimed at setting the stage for this opportunity. For each individual.
When people talk about “the good life,” this is what they mean or should mean. The chance to launch creative solutions to living—because living is the prelude to inventing the future. That’s what living is for.
I write this article a few days after one of my long-term clients has just published her third book. When we began, she had perhaps an inkling she wanted to be a writer. Nothing more. Over time, that changed. And eventually, she started putting words to paper and discovered she had the ability and the wherewithal. And the desire. And the vision.
Who would have thought it possible? She did. Not every hour of every day, but enough hours and days to write three books.
I salute her. I know, from experience, that every person has his/her own “books of the future,” whatever the enterprise, arena, endeavor.
And that knowledge is an inspiration.
Spirit and soul are restless. Because they want to create something new, something large. They want to launch.
It’s as natural as breathing.

TWO: Over the years, I’ve had a number of writers and entrepreneurs as private clients.
The entrepreneurs have a specific enterprise in progress; or in mind; or they’re working on conceptualizing it.
The writers are launched on a project, stalled on a project, or trying to conceive of a project. In a few cases, they’re first-time writers.
There is no one-size-fits-all system for consulting with clients. Each individual is unique. That’s what makes the work so interesting.
A creative solution to a problem always refers back to a latent capacity of the individual. A capacity that is not being fully expressed.
In a variety of ways, the individual has “learned” to see his own future as circumscribed by limits. Therefore, his talent and energy are, to one degree or another, held in check:
“The road isn’t wide and it isn’t very long, it’s rather narrow and short.”
On that basis, he feels hemmed in. He is trying to adapt, rather than create.
Reversing that trend does not happen according to a formula. Formulas are the reason a person found himself in a bind in the first place.
My work involves seeing and understanding what the client sees and understands…and then helping him move to a more expansive “operating basis.”
Expansive in thought, and expansive in action.
The culture of a society takes pride in defining boundaries and limits. That’s the way of civilization. So be it. But the individual is different. At some level of his consciousness, he is looking for a way out, because he knows his ambitions are primarily aimed at something “wider and higher and deeper.”
That is where he would find fulfillment.
Society, civilization, education, or training do not provide that answer for him.
He does.
And that is a good thing, a very good thing. An exciting thing.
In my work, I do my best to help the individual attain answers for himself…because then he is motivated and energized to move out from his own center and create whatever he truly desires.
This is power in the truest sense of the word.
THREE: The whole basis of my private consulting services is the individual.
Why?
After all, there are many forces acting on the individual, external forces which involve, for example, manipulation of the economy, and political tricks designed to benefit the few at the expense of the many.
However, detailing how high the deck is stacked against the individual reaches a point where the only effect is going to be dissuading him from taking action to forward his goals and ambitions.
The individual can form a picture in his mind of forces acting against him, or he can form a picture of his own desired future.
If he “rests his case” with the first picture, he tends to opt for no-action, for paralysis.
If he stands behind the second picture, he can marshal plans to create what he truly wants.
In the latter case, imagination comes into play, in a very large way. How does he conceive his future? How does he see it? What energies arise?
How much does his imagination motivate him?
I’ll give you an example from my own past. Thirty years ago, I came to a crossroads in my work, in my writing. I saw commercial opportunities. I could become a fiction writer. I could write more or less standard crime fiction and take my chances on getting it published.
Of course, I knew, given the state of the publishing industry (external forces) and how it operated, that the odds were stacked against me, because the guidelines for writing “acceptable fiction” were narrow, and the tastes of editors were provincial, to say the least.
On the other hand, I could write exactly what I wanted to—and I had a picture, a vision of what that would be. I had been imagining it for many years. The vision had a powerful effect on me.
It gave me great energy. It gave me energy and feeling that were light years beyond the prospect of chaining myself to my desk and writing for strictly commercial purposes.
I weighed the two choices. I saw that either way, I was taking a gamble.
Since that was so, which way of going down in flames was preferable? Exclusively in the service of writing that wasn’t getting me out of bed in the morning with a jolt of energy, or in the service of writing that was MY OWN?
I made my choice and launched. I’ve never looked back.
This is why, in my consulting work, I focus on the individual. I focus on what he really wants, what he discovers about his vision for his future.
That’s where the energy is. That’s where commitment is. That’s where excitement is. That’s where authentic pride in accomplishment is. That’s where imagination expands and the future takes on new substance. That’s where work means something. That’s where hope flourishes. That’s where excuses fade away. That’s where half-hearted action become full-bore action. That’s where dream becomes reality.
That’s life. Finally.
