What does God want?

If through some grievous error, I were invited to deliver a sermon on a Sunday morning at a Church, it would go this way:

What God wants could be summed up as: ask and you shall receive.

I won’t try to explain the conditions under which asking works for you.

But suppose it does. The question then becomes: what will you do with what you received?

I think many people would answer: help the less fortunate.

But suppose the less fortunate turns out to be 99% of EVERYBODY?

And further, suppose 99% of everybody is less fortunate owing to actions taken against them by oppressive rulers?

If you use what you received from God to alleviate a tiny fraction of the suffering experienced by everybody under the heel of oppressive rulers…fine. But isn’t it clear that the wave of suffering will continue, because these rulers simply don’t let up, don’t stop?

Therefore, wouldn’t it be moral and wise to stand up against the rulers?

Now I realize your pastor doesn’t preach this “standing-up-against” on Sundays. He probably doesn’t want to think about it. And neither do you.

Based on my limited knowledge of the Bible, I don’t recall God saying, “Refrain from thinking about what bothers you.”

In fact, you could say the whole Bible was written to interrupt people who were refraining from thinking about bothersome things.

So where did your pastor and you get the idea that religion involved avoiding bother?

Standing up against the State—every State, sooner or later, becomes oppressive—is the rational and moral and wise thing to do, after you’ve received what you asked for from God.

This is my view.

Is this also God’s view?

I don’t know. I’m not sure how He operates, or in how many dimensions. I suspect intermediaries have set themselves up as God, in acts of forgery. They pretend to be the highest God, but they aren’t.

All in all, I would say that if God gives you what you asked for, He would be pleased to see you use it for a good purpose. You’ve heard my reckoning and analysis, and you can take it for what you think it’s worth.

With this caveat: If you reason your way into avoiding standing up against your oppressive rulers, ask yourself whether this is a self-serving bit of sophistry. An excuse. A way out. A con, in which you’re both the perpetrator and the victim.

Ask yourself seriously. It won’t take long to arrive at an answer.

This is a nice church. It’s a bit too comfortable for my taste. Everyone here seems relaxed. The Bible, from my memory of it, isn’t a relaxing book. It isn’t something you nod yourself to sleep with at night.

Everyone here this morning is dressed up. As a sign of respect. I understand that. I’m sure some of you thank God for saving your lives. I understand that, too. But now that you’re saved, what do you want?

Ask and you shall receive. But then comes that question: what do you with what you receive?

Doesn’t the Bible contain a number of accounts of wicked men? And aren’t those men in positions of power? Aren’t many of them rulers? Isn’t God concerned with these rulers? Isn’t He making a clear distinction between Earthly powers and His power?

Doesn’t it stand to reason that a church created in His name would do the same?

Am I missing something? I don’t think so.

I know this church closed its doors when your Earthly rulers mandated the lockdowns. I know many of you have taken the vaccine because your rulers commanded it. I haven’t heard your pastor voice passionate objections to these orders. I haven’t seen him refuse to obey the ruling men. And none of you challenged him.

That’s odd. Strange. I would call it a reversal of religious morality.

Perhaps that’s why, when I see you at prayer, bowing your heads, I see the opposite of what I’m supposed to see.

I see you submitting to your oppressive rulers.

  1. Sharif says:

What God wants? He wants to be recognised as the one true God, the Creator of the universe, without partners, or helpers. No mother, son, uncle, cousin, etc. We then worship Him alone, fear Him, love Him. Our soul is in His hands. Therein lies the success of this life and the next.

    • Janice Boldt says:

Sharif – sad – there is no god/God in need of our worship. That worship would cause a turning away.

    • Sam says:

And I ad to your comment that for the first time in history humanity is been tested as whole.

Our belief in god has disappeared. We destroyed the basics of god creation (gender definition, abortions, manipulation of the weather).

Now it’s up to us, we need to show god that he is the one and only one.

Brother Sharif – I believe the question here is not religious – its the eternal question of what does ‘whoever created all this’ want from man – the one creature who has the ability to build and destroy, descend or transcend, go dark or go light…

    Jon,

Over the years I have come to appreciate your blog and the many ways you have sought to inspire us to ‘escape the matrix.’ You have demonstrated the true power of creative imagination and how it can lift us from a life of quiet desperation. We are the authors of our own lives and the creators of our own destiny for to believe otherwise is to enter the gates of hell. Your writing has reinforced a conviction I have had from a very young age that something is terribly wrong with our world. This is absolutely the most important issue of our time. The matrix is closing in on us and threatening to transform our world into a fascist hyperreality where many of the opposites have either become fused or transposed entirely where we seek to re-set our reality by erasing our history and re-defining it in new and novel ways where, for example, hate now masquerades as being enlightened (woke), justice is now injustice, riots are demonstrations, rallies are insurrections, men are women, women are men, racism is now now justifiable payback for past wrongs, unequal talents demand equal outcomes, facts are now the building blocks of conspiracy theories, war is worthy of nobel prizes, standing up for freedom is terrorism, being healthy is dangerous and that obeying the mandates of tyranny is one’s passport to freedom. Remember ‘we’re all in this together!’

We have created a simulated reality. A ‘Russian doll’ of simulacra that keeps taking us further and further away from reality. It is a storm of relativism that has swept away all truth as well as the moral foundations of the soul that are inborn seeds within the human heart. One way of looking at this is that the normal polarity of opposites has become fused so that they lose all meaning. We have swallowed up the dialectic and have eliminated the ability to question the assumptions that form the foundation of our reality. In the new hyperreality we need not question ourselves or others because all the answers are provided for us. It is a reality of answers not questions. Questions are messy and upsetting. Having the answers is comforting and safe. Better to take the blue pill of obedience rather than the red pill Truth. The technical wonderland we have created is threatening the fulfillment of our human potential. It is stifling our creativity and imagination. Devoured by the ghouls of artificial intelligence.

“It is easy for me to imagine that the next great division of the world will be between people who wish to live as creatures and people who wish to live as machines.”
    ― Wendell Berry

Do we want to sacrifice any measure of our humanity to machine intelligence? We are at a crossroads in our species evolution and the fork that we take will determine much about achieving our full human potential. The choice between Transcendentalism (what I would call our potential for spiritual/moral evolution) and Transhumanism (Evolution based on man/machine fusion) is upon us. Which way should we go?

The promise of transhumanism is alluring though. What if it were possible to live much longer, for hundreds or thousands of years or possibly forever? Sounds pretty good. Here is a definition right out of google:

“Transhumanism, [a] social and philosophical movement devoted to promoting the research and development of robust human-enhancement technologies. Such technologies would augment or increase human sensory reception, emotive ability, or cognitive capacity as well as radically improve human health and extend human life spans.”

What might the promise of transcendence have to offer that would be better than this? What might the pitfalls be of merging human intelligence with machine intelligence? These are questions that we better ask ourselves now. Which fork should we take? Which fork will you take? Will you even be given the chance to decide for yourself? The technocrats and elites of our society want to create a world dominated by silicon neurons and fancy algorithms. Would this actually enhance the quality of our lives?

Ray Kurzweil who has been a major player in the development of pattern recognition technology and the development of artificial intelligence has stated that we are approaching a singularity, a moment of great change in human potential. Wikipedia describes it thusly:

“The technological singularity—or simply the singularity—is a hypothetical point in time at which technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, resulting in unforeseeable changes to human civilization.”

With such a fusion how much of our humanity would remain? It seems that what transhumanism envisions is a kind of ‘cybertopia.’ What would the consequences be to our humanity? How much of our humanity would you be willing to give up to become an immortal hybrid man/machine? What will happen when we introduce machine intelligence into our genetic programming or human intelligence into machine programming? What kind of immortal existence might this be? Would we still retain our creative imagination? Do machines have souls? Do computers love? Can they write poetry like Tennyson, Rumi or Tagore? Do they create great sculptures like the Pieta of Michelangelo, can they write symphonies like Beethoven?

Finally we must ask ourselves if we ever really reached our full potential as human beings. In the West we have been diverted from achieving our true destiny by a number of factors. The notion that we are a fallen creation and that we are guilty of ‘original sin’ have been two major drags on our spiritual and moral evolution. We have written so many bloody pages of history that we have come to believe in our own downfall. What is our true human destiny and how might we come to know this before we merge with machines?

Yet if we have not really fulfilled our potential as human beings then why turn over any of our humanity to machines. What might we be giving up to wed our creativity, imagination and intelligence to machines? Perhaps you could fuse your intelligence with your cell phone. They could place you in an ornate holder on a shelf next to all of your friends and family members. Maybe you could become your facebook page…no need to login!

The good news is that we can decide now, for ourselves, which fork we wish to take. Do we wish to transcend our mortal nature or do we want to extend it, perhaps indefinitely, by making a Faustian bargain with machine intelligence trapping ourselves in this dimension of nested simulacra or do we wish to sail between the pillars of the mind escaping the labyrinth of neural algorithms that seek to bind our souls. The true odyssey is to transcend the matrix of the mind, not to merge it with HAL 9000. With the power of creative imagination we can create a better world. It’s up to you!

“’I was thinking,’ said Alice very politely, ‘which is the best way out of this wood. It’s getting so dark. Would you tell me, please?’
But the fat little men [Tweedledee and Tweedledum] only looked at each other and grinned.”

  9. Stephen Bashaw says:

This is what Paul, the founder of Christianity and double ( i.e. CIA) agent from Rome wrote to attempt to subjugate “his” churches to Rome.

    Submission to Governing Authorities

13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

This is the reason that church leaders cannot, from a Biblical perspective stand up against any government.

    • David Herin says:

Yes, Romans 13 is the reason many pastors and church leaders do not even question, much less resist governing authorities. But this is based on a misunderstanding of Romans 13. Romans 13 never says to ‘obey’ the government. And Romans 13 is in the context of Romans 12, which starts out: “Do not be conformed to this world . . . ” There is more going on here than what many people realize.
My take on Romans 13 and the idea of overcoming tyranny is here:
      http://www.davidherin.org/2020/11/18/overcome-tyranny/

      • Laura says:

David Herin – Thank you for that link. Most of the Bible is misinterpreted. We can’t fight evil with evil. The Romans verse is a similar idea to this verse in Revelation 22:11 “Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.”

We can’t force anyone to see the truth or “be good” – it must happen in it’s own time. We can only control our own thoughts. When I was still blind to the truth no one could force me to see the truth no matter what “facts” they presented to me. Forcing me to see the truth just made me dig my heels in more and reject it. I remember the day when I started seeing reality differently – it happened because I finally was ready to start learning the truth. I asked God to start leading me and I was ready to let go of the beliefs that were not serving me anymore.

So perhaps it’s time to stop asking what we want, and ask instead, what God wants.

Christ tells us in Matthew 7:23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

Christianity has not taught the truth about God since Paul was, (presumably) beheaded… Paul understood the churches he helped build, (spiritually) would fail and return to The Rule of Man, which is exactly where The Church of the Gentiles is today… Simply put; there is only ONE LESSON in the entire Bible, repeated over and over… which is, Submission to God… The relinquishment of all things in acknowledgement of the Highest and most Holy Authority… but certainly not to the sadistic actions and mandates of our Governments and tyrannical Leaders simply because God orchestrated evil to teach us by… So yes, we as followers of God are obligated to stand in defense of the Commandments and Responsibilities of our faith, or we have sacrificed God and are no longer under HIS rule and protection… And Jon’s most recent articles, (once again) are a line in the sand, with God on one side and the most depraved evil imaginable on the other… And God most definitely expects us to choose.

  24. Gary Labute says:

    Jon,

In this email today, what you didn’t say is that God knows all of this and is allowing it for His own reasons – most of it has to do with mankind’s sins. They listen to the devil and they get what he brings them. If they instead listened to God they’d be in Paradise.

  25. Roundball Shaman says:

    “What does God want?”

Does God have ‘wants’? A want is a feeling of need or desire. As the Eternal Source, there are no ‘needs’. What about desires? Desire is a human trait. It is a longing for something. As a Completed Eternal Source, God would not have longings.

Oh, but what about communion with humankind? What about the desire to have humans seek Him? Nothing wrong with those thoughts. But not necessary for God who is the Ground of All Being as well as Source of Everything. These are concerns for humans who seek and need communion with The Divine.

“… what will you do with what you received?”

That is the measure of an individual. We are ‘entitled’ to NOTHING. Everything we receive is a gift given to us. So our test is then… what do we do about that? Do we share in that Divine ‘trait’ of giving to others or do we treat Life as a sprint race to grab all we can at the expense of others? And how is it to give properly and not in self-indulgence?

“… I don’t recall God saying, ‘Refrain from thinking about what bothers you.’”

What ‘bothers’ us is key. Why does something bother us? What is our motivation for being ‘bothered’ by this? Is this a call for us to summon (our) action? Is there something amiss in our lives that is calling out for our attention? Am I allowing something trivial to bother me when my attention should be elsewhere? We need to THINK HARD about what is bothering us. And the result is some form of action or reassessment on our part.

“Standing up… every State, sooner or later, becomes oppressive—is the rational and moral and wise thing to do, after you’ve received what you asked for from God.”

Standing up to the State is our test of whether we actually believe the First Commandment or whether we have elevated the State above God. And since the State does not offer entry into a Heaven-like existence after death, this is a rather risky choice to make.

“… when I see you at prayer, bowing your heads, I see the opposite of what I’m supposed to see. I see you submitting to your oppressive rulers.”

The Church at its heart teaches submission. Not trusting Self. Trusting others. Praying to others. Being delivered to a eternal destination rather than selecting it yourself and getting off your rear and going there on your own. In short… submission on top of submission.

And the State has conveniently turned this acculturated sense of submission into worship of it, the State. And since The People only know submission, what else would they do when the State starts acting like a god?

For people to get out of this mess we’re in we have to rethink some of our deepest
operating principles and default programs… many of which are harmful mind and soul viruses. The rot is deep. The disassociation is embedded. The trail is risky. But without doing so, our human family destination is RUIN.

  26. Raven says:

IF you follow channelers (people who speak telepathically with ET groups) you discover ETs all agree on the concept of a Source being. Not the limited male “god” entity we think of who created man in his image and made the earth in seven days. No, Source is a much greater creator of an infinite universe. It is a neutral entity that creates souls to go out and explore the universe and bring back all experiences to Source so it can experience itself. Every living thing is a fractal of Source and we all retain a personal connection to Source and it knows each one of us. That’s how ETs describe “god” and that is how far from cosmic truth religions have strayed to keep us on our knees with our heads bowed.

Likewise there are universal laws that operate in all creation, the Law of Attraction, the Law of One, all kinds of interesting rational concepts we humans know nothing about because religion and educational indoctrination have taught us “we are all there is.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

You can blow this all off as ridiculous or you can engage your curiosity and look further into it. Since we’ve obviously been led far astray from the truth about everything, particularly human and earth history and our place in the galaxy, it makes sense to open your mind. You can start by throwing Darwinian evolution out the window as total quackery; human DNA has been genetically modified by both regressive and benevolent ET groups for eons. Still is… the proof is coursing through the blood of all vaccinated humans right now.

  27. Laura says:

I’ve recently learned through the proponents of the “New Thought Movement” that the Bible represents our own spiritual journey and our imagination is “Christ”. By design, most people (including me) no longer understand the symbolic language used in scripture – because we are so far removed from true spirituality. Spirituality has been turned into a mockery. Most people think spirituality happens on Sundays only. All throughout the Bible it proves what Jon has been saying about how powerful our imaginations are. I think “ask and you shall receive, knock and it shall be opened, seek and you shall find” is one of the key phrases about our own imaginations. If we believe in the power of our imagination (Christ) it will become a reality. Christ himself stated that we have his creative power (John 14:12-14): “Very truly I tell you, whoever BELIEVES in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” Jesus also said, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, BELIEVE that you have received it, and it will be yours.” What I think the interpretation is if you have absolute faith in the God-given power of imagination (the Christ) that is in all of us your desires will become reality by following the path to that reality. We do need to put in the effort, but God will provide the path to get there. FEAR squelches the ability to create. That is why God implores us to not fear throughout scripture. I don’t think the “dark forces” in this world have the ability to create anymore so that’s why they need to tap into our imaginations so we create the reality THEY want in order to keep themselves in power.

So many people actually do enjoy being a victim because then they don’t think they have to take any responsibility for how miserable their lives are. What they don’t realize is they created their misery themselves. This reality would be a whole lot different if we all knew the power of our imaginations. “God” or “Satan” is not to blame for evil. Our own wrong thinking allows evil to flourish. We create our own hell and our own heaven by the way we use our imaginations. That is what the Narrow path and the Wide path represents. Doing what is easy and going along to get along (wide path) will lead to “destruction” and taking a risk by standing up for what is moral/ethical (narrow path) will lead to “salvation”. Nobody is forcing us to do anything.

Laura this is something that Joe Campbell wrote about quite a bit….how the symbol is being confused with historical events. For example the virgin birth was not really a virgin birth in the literal sense but refers to the virgin birth of the soul. He had other examples at well that are illuminating.

Who/WHAT do you think inspired this? They weren’t conscious of it, they thought they were singing about a “girlfriend”….guess what?

Many of us Seventh day Adventists have chosen to dissent and have created a website (libertyandhealth.org) that offers advice and legal counsel to those who want to exercise their liberty of conscience, even to the extent of standing up against the governing body of our denomination and submitting a Liberty of Conscience Appeal, requesting that they not keep silent and support those members who choose to refuse the vaccine mandates and follow their individual liberty of conscience. In response to your statement, “I don’t recall God saying refrain from thinking about what bothers you”, The whole end of Matt Chp 6:25-34 …”therefore do not worry about tomorrow…sufficient for the day is it’s own trouble.” I appreciate your commentary and look forward to reading your blog.

Thank you Jon, I agree entirely. We seem to be at the crossroads with the choice of either becoming yet another thing amoung the internet of things, or cleave to our default image of organic, spiritual Beings of Love and Freedom. The tools of intervention have become the idols of the new cult.

Instead of becoming immortal machines, why don’t we take what seems to have immortality already in our transient organic world, money, and give it life? Money is out of step here, and even Christ’s temptation of turning stones (money) into bread, does not translate well into our present predicament. So why not give it life? A childhood, an adulthood and an old age, at which time it goes back to the source, to be reincarnated into different hands entirely. It seems to me that any institution labelled “Big” infront of it would have it’s legs knocked out from under it in the agreed upon lifespan of that almighty dollar.

Musings from an appreciative reader of your work. God Bless.

Thank you Jon, succinct and searingly truthful as always. From someone who believes in the ‘good’ but is not a churchgoer.

  34. Sean says:

    I see the same.

The good Christian based loving company I worked for at the beginning of this planned demonic movement, had no other options for me when I asked, do you have any other way to go about this daily temperature reading to be able to go to work? No. Why? Because is t it New World Order training? We see it as help g not go spread a virus. I said I am not Christian but I will stand with you if you will take a stand against them be because isn’t it partly about will g the Cristians off the planet? I stand with the Christians.

They said, we will accept your resignation.

Perhaps, they are not exactly wiped off the planet, perhaps they allowed themselves to be converted as obedient foot soldiers.

I do plumbing remodel work. Yesterday i was at one of these homes while the homeowner was there. Christian, Marine, and an ABC tv watcher. All day. I don’t watch tv. So I was surprised. It seemed as if everything I’m the world was hypnotic and ok. But it is not ok. They really got these folks.

    • Sean says:

Also, I’ve observed the same from the supposedly more rational folks and conservatives. They tell me to just watch Fox News. Fox news watchers seemed to be good foot soldiers too. We are just doing wherever the Mayor or Governor says to do. I’m like OMG. TV Watchers are stupid stupid stupid

  35. TJ says:

I’m very fortunate to attend a small Church of Christ where we never missed but one church service during the entire plandemic. Adhering to the “no more than 10” rarely effected us since some members stayed home (by their own choice) to view online, therefore our attendance was normally no more than 12. We never wore masks and didn’t “social distance”. We weren’t trying to be defiant just to prove something to the so called authorities and experts, but did sing, pray, and worship God as every other Sunday and Wednesday. The bible clearly tells us to respect our leader and follow laws that do not go against the teaching of His word. The wearing of masks puts a body, the temple of God, in danger of infection and respiratory problems. So I did not wear a mask during the pandemic. Following God and adhering to mans rules can sometimes conflict. Stand for God first, then obey mans laws.

When we ask something of God, it must be for the right reasons. God would not give to His children something that could lead to evil and mans own destruction (in hell). If we’re following His commands we will ask gor those things that will help us on the path to eternity with Him.

  37. Jim says:

What does God want? He wants everyone to obey his commandments. There were ten of them, which Jesus summarized as, Love God, and Love your neighbor.

Ask and you shall receive. Jesus told us what to ask for in the Lord’s Prayer: give us this day our daily bread, forgive us our trespasses, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

The import of all this is to learn to get along with other people without conflict. It begins with the family: honor your mother and father.

  38. Simply remarkable how we are on the same page, Jon – for quite some time and we’re not alone. We are NOT dealing with incompetence or stupidity – it is pure EVIL!

    Are we governed by humans?

The journey actually begins at my website – separate, but linked from the library – but is not for the faint of heart. Few pastors have expressed interest, which sort of indicates I’m on the right track. After all, it was the established ‘church’ which agitated the Romans to kill Jesus.

Keep writing, Jon – you inspire me!

  40. Anyone Not Against Us Is for Us

38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.” 39 But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. 40 For the one who is not against us is for us.

I love the subscribers of your Blog; some of the lost thinkers of our time – One Pentecostal church in my area refused to close. We went there. Unfortunately, they have their rules and regulations too. While they are very nice people, I don’t believe i will ever enter a Christian or any other kind of church again – The Pope is just another psychopath.

  42. Greg says:

Read ‘James, the Brother of Jesus’ (1997, Faber & Faber) by Prof. Robert Eisenman. The New Testament is crude Roman propaganda designed to pacify the rebellious masses. It is a total inversion of the activist life and message of Jesus. It worked to pacify Christians 1950 years ago, it is still working today!

    • Greg, are we reading the same NT? The pacifying is coming from the pulpits, not the Bible. In fact, the more I read it the more I see the pabulum dispensed. There’s a good article in my archive/library written by Glenn T Stanton which tells people to read the Gospels to meet the Jesus no one likes to talk about. Your reference of the book by the Prof might just do that – I’ll check it out – thanks!
