New study: FDA-approved drugs are dangerous

As alarming as the study sounds, it’s a limited hangout—I’ll explain

It turns out every new medical drug should contain a warning: “The FDA approved this medicine. Watch out.”

Perhaps the warning should be more extreme: “If you’re taking this drug, have an emergency medical crew on stand-by.”

A new study, published in the Journal of American Medical Association, examined all 222 drugs approved by the FDA between 2001 and 2010. The finding? Years after approval, roughly a third of the medicines were then labeled with warnings about serious adverse effects; and some of those warnings indicated life-threatening complications. For example, cancer and liver damage. For example, death—which, the last time I looked, is life-threatening.

The Washington Post reports: “Among the drugs with added warnings [years after the drugs were approved, as safe, for public use]: Humira, used for arthritis and some other illnesses; Abilify, used for depression and other mental illness; and Pradaxa, a blood thinner. The withdrawn drugs [taken off the market] and the reason: Bextra, an anti-inflammatory medicine, heart problems; Raptiva, a psoriasis drug, rare nervous system illness; and Zelnorm, a bowel illness drug, heart problems.”

A pharma trade-group spokeswoman told the Post: “Even with rigorous clinical studies and regulatory review it may be impossible to detect certain safety signals until several years after approval, once the medicine is in broader use.”

No doubt. And that’s why the public is subjected to the luck of the draw, a roll of the dice, a spin of the roulette wheel.

Of course, as I never tire of pointing out, a landmark review (July 26, 2000) in the Journal of American Medical Association, by Dr. Barbara Starfield, found that, every year in the US, FDA approved drugs kill 106,000 people. Extrapolating to a decade, that would be a million deaths.

The new study confirms only a small part of the overall problem.

And the overall problem is what major media don’t want to report on—and what the federal government doesn’t want to touch with a 10-foot pole.

The new study is what intelligence agencies would call a limited hangout, which is a public admission of part of a problem or scandal that is, in fact, much bigger. The huge scandal, in this case, is the routine death-by-medicine numbers every year—which is ignored by the press and the government.

106,000 Americans killed by FDA approved medicines every year. That’s the big one. That remains hidden and unacknowledged.

NOTE: under Trump, the FDA is urged to speed up the drug-approval process. It’s good for business. For patients, it’s a disaster on top of the already existing disaster.

Perhaps Trump just wants to make people more responsible for their decisions and not make the government pay to do studies that are biased anyway and don’t matter. Its unconstitutional for the government to be involved in this manner and a waste of money.

Nature provides us with everything we need, we don’t need toxic drugs and if humans are stupid enough to continue taking them, despite the amount of casualties, well, thats just evolution in progress. We need to stop coddling the lazy ignorant and stupid and they need to learn to fend for themselves. They are destroying society and our earth.

Society goes against nature and creates peasants who whine and are perpetual victims. This serves the nanny police state, but does not make the world any better and hurts the humans who work hard and deserve to enjoy the benefit of their work. Its obvious to anyone who looks around at what a mess America, which is supposed to be a Republic made up of intelligent, diligent, responsible humans who respect and love themselves and others, has become. Now its a communist dystopia, based on the lowest common denominator.

I believe that the flouride, vaccinations, pharmaceutical drugs prescribed like candy as well as the geo-engineering currently going on in our skies as well as the television, school and mainstream media indoctrination are actively lowering the defenses and IQ of the American public. There seems to be no limit as too the “accepted and encouraged” destruction of the earth and her living beings, people, animals, flora etc. I think we as a society are on our last legs, the only reason we are still rolling along is because we are too dumbed down to really see what’s going on around us. Please keep being a voice for us.

  4. Those 106,000 are only those who die in hospital. As most drugs are prescribed to out-patients the real number if much higher. And those are only the direct deaths. Drugs often kill indirectly, after a number of years. The real number can only be guessed, but it’s likely millions.

Right – and don’t forget all the victims of chemotherapy and AZT, where death can always be blamed on cancer or AIDS. The real opportunity is in drugs to treat “hopeless” diseases so that maybe – maybe, your life can be a few years longer – who knows? And if the drug kills you? Hey, you were going to die anyway. But thanks for your business.

The FDA is not a watchdog for the public interest, but rather a *lapdog* for powerful corporate interests….in this case the pharmaceutical industry.

  6. Pat says:

Most people should have a clue long before that study was done because the pharmaceutical commercials are as scary as hell when they start listing the possible side effects.

    • Betty says:

The commercials are scary and bizarre, seems like there is always some happy active people in the background, or a nice little butterfly flying around when they talk about the side effects, and have you noticed the side effect part of the commercial takes up way more time the the supposedly benefits. Some people are just now opening their eyes to the dangers of modern medicine, so I guess we should still keep spreading the word. I don’t know what the heck they were studying before maybe the shopping channel, or watching people spin for the big car giveaway.

A little “due diligence” costs money. Effective due diligence would price most drugs out of the market. Isn’t the current strategy a win/win?

If the drugs you buy make you sick, they can sell you new drugs to make you “better” (that “circle” can travel many “loops”). If you die, then per rationalist “mea culpa”, you were a useless eater.

While no one seeks the CURE all medication is, at best, irrelevant.

  8. Don McCoy says:

Yeah yeah…EVERYTHING the government does is bad. I know…there there. However, the drugs they approved for my generation–including those dastardly vaccines–have kept me safe for my whole life. If you’re going to tell me I’m mistaken, how do you explain the EXPLOSION of already eradicated diseases that the Muslims “refugees” are bringing into the country with them?

    • Betty says:

Plumbing for one, clean water, hygiene, Their countries, their families, their whole safety net has been destroyed. If our country is bombed to crap or an EMP maybe some bio weapons let loose, we would be in the same shape as the refugees.

  9. Helen says:

the FDA works for big pharma and not the people, but they are paid with our tax dollars. another way big pharma screws us over..

  10. desireerover says:

As a result of the patent system business model, every pharmaceutical is a new-to-nature substance, and thus foreign to the body.
These toxic chemicals represent a 3-staged attack:
    (1) they do not only damage organs,
    (2) they also inhibit the uptake of nutrients from the diet, and
    (3) in order to be detoxed and excreted, they rob the body of precious vitamins, minerals and other nutrients — which be not available for the normal necessary body processes…
So, pray tell, what is good about pharmaceuticals?
