Power Outside The Matrix: Vision of Journalism

Yes, I believe my collection, Power Outside The Matrix can help people who want to become writers or much better writers.

Speaking from my own 40 years of journalism work and my preferences on the subject, yes, of course I have a bias, but it’s not narrow. It’s wide open, and it lets anyone in, as long as they think about FACT and IMAGINATION together.

Some would call what I’m talking about here STYLE, but it’s more than that. It’s how a writer decides to present information with twists and turns and flashes and cloudbursts and attacks…

What can you make facts DO?

They’re the raw material.

You could wake up one very good day and realize you’re writing satire. Comedy. Even poetry.

You’re also, in the process, exploding the mind of the reader, because it needs to be exploded and rescued from the sober drear of “here are the data, goodbye.” I mean, really. That has to go. Away.

As a writer, do you want a fact to be a martial arts instructor toiling away at a small gym teaching the same moves over and over, or do you want a fact to be a Bruce Lee, who invented new moves from his core and imagination every day to fit the situation he was facing?

If you know you want to use a fact to make a point, you’re on the right track. How do you make the point? There are an infinity of ways, and you invent them. Mostly, as you go along.

You teach yourself to be a chef with no recipe book. Your book is DESIRE. The desire to overturn official reality. So OVERTURN IT. Don’t be shy.

Read what bad journalists write. See what they’re doing. I’m not just talking about lies. I’m talking about how they tell them. Drained of juice and color. These people should be pumping gas and collecting tumbleweed in Death Valley.

As a writer, fear is not your friend. You can tell the truth and never move the needle, because you’re timid. (If you’re irretrievably timid, you’ve already stopped reading this.)

Listen. There are millions and millions of readers out there who are unsure about what they’re supposed to do. They’re in strait jackets. They don’t know whether to shit or go blind. They read a line you write and they start to smile and then they stop.

They ask themselves, “Am I supposed to laugh? That line was pretty funny. But the subject he’s writing about is serious. I’m confused. He just took that fact and used it like a hammer and banged my head. If I laugh, am I committing some kind of code violation? Is a patrol car going to show up? Will I turn into a person my friends won’t understand? Suppose I miss the meaning of a joke and laugh in the wrong place? I’d look stupid.”

The solution here is: keep pounding away. Sooner or later, people are going to catch on to what you’re doing. And here’s the capper. They’ll find the buried place in themselves where they’re doing it, too.

That’s what you want. You want THEM to see THEY intend to upset apple carts, too. That intent has been trained out of them. By all sorts of people. Dead people who still manage to walk and talk.

It’s the deadness you want to overcome.

Facts are weapons you deploy to achieve that. You don’t want gray readers digesting facts you present as gray corpses…because in that case, nothing really happens.

Yes, I’ve read Hunter Thompson. I’ve read PJ O’Rourke. And Jonathan Swift and Lewis Carroll. And Thomas Paine, who was a journalist and an essayist and caller to action and a poet all at the same time. They knew how to use facts to their own advantage. You can learn from them, and then cook up your own dishes.

Beware of ideological humor. These are dud jokes the writers THINK are funny. They’re sadly mistaken. The jokes rely heavily on the prior ideology, and only rubes and yokels enjoy them. “Ha-ha, he [writer] proved God is wonderful.” No he didn’t. He wrote something lame, and God shook his head, swore, turned away, and went off to play 18 holes at George Carlin’s miniature golf course on the corner of Paradise and Cackle.

Suppose God Himself wants you to laugh your way out of a strait jacket? Suppose He knows how to turn the screw with any fact in the book? Suppose He can make a fact into a sword and wave it and drive you screaming into the night—where you recover your sanity.

Why can’t you as a writer do that, too?

Because He’s the Only One? You really think His ego is that large?

Doesn’t your experience tell you it’s the most isolated, indifferent, cold sons of bitches who have the biggest egos?

In Power Outside The Matrix, my Writer’s Tutorial — my instructions to writers, aren’t a cage you climb into.

Don’t think about writing as a cage.

You’re outside, not inside.

That should be why you’re a writer.

In my tutorial, I’m not laying down hard and fast rules. I’m not asking for obedience. I give you tools, but you decide how to use them. And you never become a slave to your tools.

If you do opt for slavery, your writing is going to strike the ear in an artificial way. It won’t ring bells. It’ll clang. It’ll come across as trumped-up.

I aim to liberate writers, not pin them down.

Once you feel free and write free, you can shape your work in all sorts of different ways. If you start out trying to shape your work, you’ll stall and dead end.

You’re not aiming to be a trained monkey.

We already have far too many of those.

And let me say something about the craft of writing. You know where you pick that up? From reading other writers. It comes through to you by osmosis. It’s the way a child learns to speak. He listens to people speaking, and he grasps what’s happening.

It’s wholesale, not retail.

Faith, self-belief, and determination are wellsprings of a writer. And when faith falters, determination is the key. You’re going to write, no matter what, come hell or high water.

That works.

In Power Outside The Matrix, my goal is to transmit the electricity of being a writer. In all my discussions, I come back to that.

Because, you see, being a writer is a LIFE.

It’s not just a career. The career comes out of the life.

Far too many people in this world opt for a career and then try to make a life out of it. That’s normal. That’s standard. That’s a long street that narrows and turns into an alley that ends at a blank wall.

If I loaded you down with tips and tricks and rules, I’d be directing you to that alley. I’d never do that.

Power Outside The Matrix: Why I want more writers in the world

Yes, I believe my collection, Power Outside The Matrix can help people who want to become writers or much better writers.

I want more writers in the world—journalists, poets, novelists, playwrights—because they create narratives. New ones.

And this is important, because people, faced with what’s going on around them, have an incurable habit of listening to inner brain narratives of anxiety, impending trouble, and doom. Whether they know it not.

Writers outdistance and outflank that habit. A writer un-traps himself and his readers from that habit.

During my 75 years or so of reading, I’ve jumped into all sorts of writers. For a 10-year span, it was crime and spy fiction. Ian Fleming, John D MacDonald, James M Cain, Donald Hamilton, John Buchan, and finally and great and underappreciated Philip Atlee and his series of Joe Gall secret agent novels. I read and reread Atlee’s books. I learned so much about writing it was ridiculous. He was a great teacher without ever intending to be.

These books fortified me. They built wave after wave of new stories in my mind. New possibilities. New thoughts. New thoughts that spawned other thoughts. So…why bother with automatic narratives that groveled and crawled in the direction of gloom Fate? No need for that.

Writers liberate everybody.

Writing is abundance.

Automatic narratives in the mind are appointed bureaucrats of scarcity.

Science fiction—another decade or so of reading. Ray Bradbury, Heinlein, Philip Dick, AE Van Vogt, Norman Spinrad, and a host of nameless pulp authors who took me to other galaxies in the words of their opening paragraphs. BANG. You travel to those places, and when you come back, you’re refreshed. You’re emerging from a five star spa of mind and soul. You don’t need the old stories your brain is blabbering in its nursing home address on the edge of town.

There was a period in my teens and early 20s when I read the authors I was supposed to. Herman Hesse, Poe, DH Lawrence, Yeats, Dylan Thomas, Arthur Miller, Eric Hoffer, Henry Miller, Ayn Rand, William Burroughs. But “supposed to” dissolved. I was leaping into and out of all sorts of different kinds of fire. I KNEW all bets were off. ALL narratives were up for grabs. I could go ANYWHERE.

This is a good thing to know.

This is one of the best things to know.

Believing in freedom is one thing. Feeling free is quite another. Writing (doing it or reading it) gives you the feeling.

It gives you a platform on which to stand. A stage. A new stage.

Power Outside The Matrix: For writers and people on the verge of being writers

Yes, I believe my collection, Power Outside The Matrix can help people who want to become writers or much better writers.

I’ve been around the block 10,000 times. I’ve been writing for 67 years.

I know something about it.

I also know something about the people who want to write, who want to do it outside the mainstream.

They aren’t going to journalism school. They aren’t going to jump in that river and learn that system.

This is good, because there is no system—there are only artificial pretenses of systems.

The first point is: You’re going to put something on the page that you like to see, and readers are going to engage with. Something that pulls them out of what they ordinarily expect. Which shows you’re different. You’re not out to bore them to death. This is a major plus. For you and your readers.

“He’s not trying to put me to sleep. I’m on his side already.”

Clue: If you bore readers, you’re boring yourself. And that’s fatal.

In fact, one of the reasons a person becomes a writer is to “un-bore” himself. He wants to feel alive.

This is good. This is not a sin.

So put something on the page that makes you feel alive.

That’s the test. That’s ambition in the right direction.

The Matrix Revealed: Official truth, androids, and reductive mind control

In my mega-collection, The Matrix Revealed, I publish hundreds of pages of interviews with Jack True, a master hypnotherapist who stopped doing hypnosis; and Ellis Medavoy, a retired propaganda operative for elite globalists.

In these interviews, you get the details on manipulation of the mind at a level that goes light years beyond conventional analysis of propaganda.

Jack True discovered that his clients had subconscious “portraits” of whole universes hidden from view.

And two astonishing discoveries came after that.

One, propaganda could tap into those subconscious universes and manipulate them to achieve mind control of an extraordinary kind.

And even more important, if a person had an opportunity to bring those universes to the surface and explore them himself and “re-create” them, he would liberate himself to a degree not otherwise possible.

You present people with official truth about any subject—vaccines, GMOs, wars of liberation, epidemics—and they buy in, because they’re looking for summaries, reductions, simple images that require simple limbic emotions. No thought, no reasoning, no logic. Self-appointed experts say the word and populations salute, because for them the truth has to come from somewhere outside themselves, and because they want to be told what to see, how to react. This is called hypnotism.

Now add one step. Put a moral value on official truth—‘you’re saving humanity,’ ‘you’re wiping out prejudice,’ ‘you’re working for universal equality’—and you really have something. You have an army of propagandists at your beck and call, a push-button army.

How to approach the hatchery where hypnotized androids are cultivated and made? You attack the points where the automatic cogs of their minds are ABSOLUTELY in sync with official reality. Asymmetrically, you come at those cogs from all sorts of unconventional angles. That’s what the surrealists did. They interrupted the eternal Hum of the skyscrapers of the mind.

The preacher or the scientist or the educator or the doctor might not like that. The universe might be offended. There are all sorts of figureheads who might be offended. These figureheads represent reduced-down views of the world. Hypnotically simple.

That’s how their game works. They convince people that anything important is terribly simple. They keep boiling the soup and boiling the soup down until it’s almost nothing, and then they point to it and say, ‘There, you see? That’s what it’s all about. That’s all it is.’

That’s what hypnotism is. The boiling down. The reduction. The old man in the sky sitting in a big chair combing his beard—and his cousin, the guy who wouldn’t agree and who was therefore suddenly the embodiment of evil. You could boil it all down to that. Then you hand that story to someone and he’s got it now, AS A REDUCTION. He’s an android in the garden, watching the sun go down.

You can drag an android to water. He’ll just stare at it and notice the pretty little reflections, including his own, and he’ll hang around hoping for something important to happen.

Mechanical thought is the big feature of the android mind. The connections may be sophisticated, but they’re quiescent. Pieces are hooked up to other pieces of ideas, but with no creative ambition involved.

This is how freedom dies. It just sits there and becomes a hard old stone, because a person won’t move and fly off that platform to invent something new.

And all the while he’s shouting about how he wants his freedom. But he doesn’t want it. He wants the stone and the shadow in the hard dirt. He wants some kind of absolute zero. That’s the subconscious of the android.

DARPA, the tech and mind-control arm of the Pentagon, is now embarked on yet another new project: how to insert images directly into the brain. No chips, no implants, no holograms sitting in space. That’s old hat.

Instead, beam signals directly into the visual cortex.

And human androids are the perfect target, because they’ll buy any image, as long they’re not creating it. Doesn’t matter where it comes from: the television set, the computer screen, the newspaper. They’ll take it in and eat it for lunch.

Theoretically, you could eventually outfit one of these passive good citizens with a complete wall-to-wall series of pictures—a movie—that would constitute his daily experience.

Riots in the streets, bombings, lootings, but all he’s seeing are rainbow gardens and cotton-candy machines and pink balloons and naked virgins.

‘My brother Bobby called me again today and warned me that I’ve been sitting on my couch for six months, but he’s crazy. I’ve been living at Disney World, seeing the sights, riding the rides.’

He even has an adoring wife and two well-behaved children. They sprang up out of nowhere one day. He thought he was a loner living on the fringe of the city, but it turns out he’s a responsible family man.

A government check every month, and it’s a wonderful life.

Mickey Mouse is the President of the United States, Donald Duck is the Vice-President, and Goofy is the head of Homeland Security. The people have spoken. What more could they want?

Exit From The Matrix: Individual vs Controllers

Everything I’m writing in this piece is bolstered and backed up in spades by my collection, Exit From The Matrix, which is all about the individual reclaiming his creative power. The collection contains many exercises designed for that purpose.

I cannot tell you how many times I have seen individuals achieve success through their own efforts—only to turn around and say:

“From my new position, my new point of view, I see what all of us together should do to usher in a better world…”

And in that superficially agreeable statement, they are implicitly denying the right to other individuals to achieve their own success.

They are slamming the door shut.

They are—having climbed the mountain—denying the mountain to others.

This IS what Globalism is all about.

Back far enough away from this Globalist world, and you’re looking at science fiction made real.

Author Philip K Dick: “Because today we live in a society in which spurious realities are manufactured by the media, by governments, by big corporations, by religious groups, political groups…So I ask, in my writing, What is real? Because unceasingly we are bombarded with pseudo-realities manufactured by very sophisticated people using very sophisticated electronic mechanisms…it is an astonishing power: that of creating whole universes, universes of the mind. I ought to know. I do the same thing.”

In this Globalist world, the individual is considered to be a cipher, a person without status or meaning. It is the mass, the group that counts.

The notion that the individual, within himself, has the power to affect the course of events seems absurd.

Yet it is exactly this juxtaposition that can give birth to extraordinary and unforeseen possibilities. The juxtaposition of: the rebel against the colossus.

The journey to discover one’s own authentic power is what is called for.

In 1974, Frank Herbert, the author of Dune, wrote this: “The current utopian ideal being touted by people as politically diverse (on the surface, but not underneath) as President Richard M. Nixon and Senator Edward M. Kennedy goes as follows — no deeds of passion allowed, no geniuses, no criminals, no imaginative creators of the new. Satisfaction may be gained only in carefully limited social interactions, in living off the great works of the past. There must be limits to any excitement. Drug yourself into a placid ‘norm.’ Moderation is the key word…”

The “utopian ideal” is sameness. It is promoted. It is propagandized. It is bought and sold. Underneath that illusion, what still lives?

The individual and his power.

This is the dormant force that, even at this late date in history, remains to be explored.

Part of that exploration is weeding out and disposing of cynical philosophical exploitations such as: “all power is evil.”

“All power=corruption.”

Power is not inherently the same thing as crime. Power is not the same thing as rule by force. Power is not the same thing as control of populations.

Not when you’re talking about the voyage of the individual as he discovers what is within himself.

I keep saying that, and I’ll keep on saying it.

The individual has been edged out, marginalized, or co-opted into a structure whenever possible. The individual has been left in the darkness, as if he is a vestigial and extinct prop from an earlier period on the evolutionary tree.

Good. So be it.

It clarifies things.

The utopian ideal of Globalism is not only an illusion and a deception, it’s an impossibility—which is to say, all projections of a uniform society based on a group-outcome, in which we agree on an image of what we strive for…there is no freedom in that. There is no actual harmony in that. There is no passion in that.

The society to hope for and work for is an open one. And that means individuals, self-empowered, imagine and independently invent their own greatest multiple futures and realities simultaneously.

And for that to happen, individuals have to discover what their own power is.

Let me put it this way. The Globalists are painting a gigantic mural, which they call Reality. They want us to look at it, be hypnotized by it, and walk into it, to take up residence there.

Freedom is not uniformity. It never was.

The overthrow of the machine of control eventually comes back to this: how many individuals are awake and alive to their own power, their own power to invent the future they most profoundly desire?

Why expend enormous amounts of energy if the work is superficial? Why spend years if the work is automatic and dead?

Making your work known in the world begins with knowing something about the work. It begins with knowing you have unlimited energy to give to it. That energy comes from discovering/inventing your deepest possible goals.

Then, the energy shows up in abundance.

Excuses for not doing what I’m alluding to here are endless. People make them up by the ton. Postponement Inc. and Distraction Inc. are always flourishing.

It’s even fashionable to be confused, and then parlay that into a solid story of irreversible victimhood. But,…

“At the core of every true talent there is an awareness of the difficulties inherent in any achievement, and the confidence that by persistence and patience something worthwhile will be realized. Thus talent is a species of vigor.” –Eric Hoffer

CREATE is a word that should be oceanic. It should shake and blow apart the pillars of the smug boredom of the soul. CREATE is what the individual does when he is on fire. It’s about what the individual invents when he has thrown off the false front that is slowly strangling him. CREATE is about the end of mindless postponement. It’s about what happens when you burn up the pretty and petty little obsessions. It’s about emerging from the empty suit and empty machine of society that goes around and around and sucks away the vital bloodstream.

THE REVOLT IN CHINA: What It Means

How the chief propagandists are trying to derail the story and kill it

We’re on the cusp of potentially enormous changes.

China, the great superpower, is experiencing a human earthquake at its roots.

The revolt in China has huge implications for the West and the world — unless we’re convinced to pass it off like a car crash on a highway thousands of miles away. China’s version of fake COVID science has resulted in enormous blowback; they’re building the tightest Surveillance State on Earth and now huge cracks are showing.

Actions have consequences. For decades, the Chinese regime has been trying to avoid what’s coming to them. We in the West have been treated to outrageous propaganda designed to show us that China “is doing quite well with its model.”

The truth is, their COVID restrictions have imposed a new and even more frightening version of their police state.

And those restrictions have gained widespread support from Western elites!

The last thing these elite globalists want now is EXPOSURE. Exposure for praising and trying to copy the Chinese “model” of slavery in the West.

That EXPOSURE is EXACTLY what can happen now.

Because the Chinese people are sending a message to the world. They’re saying, “What our leaders are doing has nothing to do with health or protecting us from harm. They’re building a Brave New World, and to them we’re the guinea pigs who fit into assigned slots. Don’t fall for the con.”

And globalist leaders in the West, who have been supporting China’s Brave New World, are trembling.

It’s as if a painter is working on a mural, and the global population is looking at that mural and seeing it as Reality.

This goes deeper. Much deeper:

Limited concepts of space, time, energy, the mind, cause-and-effect—these, too, are “given” to human beings as the be-all and end-all of a story. A story that ultimately short-circuits and short-changes what the individual is really capable of.

The entire mural of imposed Reality is aimed at radically diminishing the individual’s power.

So in addition to my work as an investigative reporter, I’ve been researching the individual’s ability to go beyond this mural of reality.

In the late 1980s, in concert with the brilliant hypnotherapist Jack True (who gave up doing hypnosis with his patients), I developed many, many exercises and techniques for expanding the creative power of the individual.

Some of those exercises are included in my new collection, Power Outside The Matrix. These techniques are aimed at accessing more energy, more imagination, more stability and intelligence “beyond the mural of reality.”

In fact, Power Outside The Matrix is all about being able to think, act, and create both outside and inside The Matrix. Because that’s the goal: to be able to function in both places.

People are consciously or unconsciously fixated on boundaries and systems. They are hoping for whatever can be delivered through a system.

That is a form of mind control.

Freedom isn’t a system.

But freedom needs creative power, otherwise it just sits there and becomes a lonely statue gathering dust in an abandoned park.

At one time or another, every human being who has ever lived on this planet has abandoned his creative power. The question is: does he want to get it back?

It never really goes away. It is always there. It is the basis of a life that can be lived. A life that can be chosen. People instead choose roles that don’t require that power. They think this is a winning strategy.

It isn’t.
