To writers and aspiring writers

It may sound strange in this era of the exploding internet, but we need more writers. Many more.
We need people who are inspired to develop their own voice, their own unique approach.
We don’t need more cookie-cutter. There is enough of that.
The world needs to learn that UNIQUE VOICE is the magic that unseats conventional reality all the way down to its foundation.
That has always been one of the central jobs of the writer.
In this day and age, we are losing so much of that electricity people don’t even realize what it is. They equate writing with information, as if the two were the same. If you try to dissuade them, they give you a blank look.
Without trying to re-visit many pieces I’ve written about mind control…conventional reality is achieved through ongoing mass hypnosis. The trance induces monotone perception. This trance fits in nicely with a person’s view of language. He sees it as nothing more than a carrier wave for packets of data.
But writing (and all art) has the potential to wake people up from the trance that tells them reality is sober, dispassionate, surgical, gray, uninspired, and without life-force.
Minus individual life-force, people will never discover the most basic thing happening “behind the curtain.” Why? Because the main thing happening behind that curtain is the repression of electricity of soul.
UNIQUE VOICE in writing points to that electricity and energy and fire, because that’s where it comes from.
Many writers today don’t read. They don’t read Henry Miller or Walt Whitman or William Carlos Williams or David Lindsay or or Li Po or Dylan Thomas or Yeats or Rimbaud…
They miss the fire. They have the gift right in front of them, but they don’t know it.
If they’ve been educated, their teachers have pounded them into silence with a critic’s approach to literature. The critic, in one way or another, is always taking apart the work of a writer, as if to reveal how the writer is putting sentences together—this is farce. The critic has no clue. He’s dipping his hand in the river of energy and claiming to be able to separate the each rapid from each other rapid.
He’s saying that what the writer did from the fire of inspiration was constructed, molecule by molecule, in a sanitized brightly lit language lab.
To be sure, the writer needs a broad and deep understanding of language (from reading, where else?). But that is just step one.
Imagination is step two through step 500000000000.
There is the great adventure for the writer.
And in imagination, he finds the river. Many rivers.
He invents a UNIQUE VOICE(s). With it, he shatters complacent and conventional reality. He topples pillars, and cracks foundation stones. He flies off to other places.
This is a revolution that, finally, dissolves mind control and the trances of The Monotone.
The writer can do this.
More riverboat-gambler writers can do more of it.
This has to do with freedom. Not freedom as a potted plant in the window or as an old principle described in sodden prose. Freedom is a dynamo. If it is living.
This is why we need more WRITERS.

Thanks Jon. I needed that…
Thank You Jon.
I was fortunate enough, to have lived the huckleberry finn lifestyle to a reasonable degree as a child, I frequently truanted from schule, and was in the main, an autodidact.
I recall being kept back in the second year of juniors (age 7 and 8 years old) as had learning difficulties.
run spot run, see spot run, was really the cause, I overcame that hurdle by compulsive use of dictionary and the building of ‘word-trees’ as I developed my understanding and love of the english languor, I mean Language.
46 years on, and the past 5 years reading your articles, have renewed my childhood ‘freedom’ of thought’ as well as making me aware, that soon, I shall have to purchase exit the matrix, in order to develop the Logic that has been absent to a degree in my life, as well as becoming more aware and cognisant with the work of Jack True.
I look forward to that day.
Kind wishes to You [and your] Fellow Readers […]
Regards,
Bod

What a pleasant comment, gave me a giggle, introspectively; I find so many comments are loaded, ready and waiting…I’m sure a few here will laugh at that admission.
I liked your voice. And I could hear it.
Autodidact you say, is there any other way?
I also spent my youth running truantly, from priests and aged relatives, who would tie me down. Off I would go as soon as the muse whispered the word into my ear, the wildness of Ireland as a boy was the playing fields. School… what a bore, for a knight, or the Lone Ranger, or William Tell and Ivanhoe. They, the enemies of children were far to slow to catch a gutter snipe, they are a rare bird, it seems the species is almost extinct now, not too many around anymore…them and Huckberry Finns. Now it’s tablets and cellphones…corrupters of children
I always liked Finn, and have wondered why Twain called him Finn. ‘Finn’ was also a great Irish Hero, Fionn mac Cumhaill (Old Irish, pronounced…Finn McCool). I think Twain read the Irish.
I have wrestled with word meaning my whole life, and semantics has been a great interest. I too am not far from a dictionary.
If Horrible and Horrific are the same things, then why are terrible and terrific opposites? But then again, jumping on someone when they confuse there/their/they’re is really just an ad homonym attack.
So…a little joke for you Bod…
The past, present and future walked into a bar. It was tense.
A great portion more of freedom for you Bod and a child heart to hold to it. For only an old child would know how to use such freedom.
Thank you so much for this. As an individual creativity and inspiration are constantly beaten out those around me. The majority feel powerless to their own distractions, leading themselves throughout life with robotic inclinations into a never ending dispair. If they only knew the power of their own imagination combined with inate empathic tendencies, they could remove themselves from the mental and emotional prison complex perceived as reality. To “wake up” is not enough. Devising a organic symbiosis by recognizing the real from the false, while extinguishing the latter is a life long journey that few will ever embark on.
Thanks, Jon! Needed small jolt, but bigger bump still! Done small writing prior, but getting busier (or soon to be) than the proverbial one arm paper hanger!
Not sure how this was missed but many thanks. Haven’t written as much as has been planned, but try to do it myself much as time permits. This resonates quite well.
