In one section of my mega-collection, The Matrix Revealed, I conduct many interviews with the most brilliant practitioner of hypnotherapy I’ve ever met, Jack True.
Part of his brilliance was giving up the practice of hypnotizing people—because he saw that at a deep level, they were already hypnotized.
His radical solution involved engaging their imaginations. This was not easy. He once told me, “People are asleep to the degree that they’ve forgotten what imagination can do.”
Jack had great skill in waking up people’s imaginations.
When he did, he found that they were harboring “whole worlds” in their minds. Untapped worlds, far different from this one. Worlds in which space and time were different. Logic was different.
And bringing people to describe and flesh out these worlds wasn’t just an academic exercise. Far from it. Jack wrote to me, “This is the gold I’ve been looking for. Jack realized that “the fundamental capacity of the individual involves seeing many worlds; but he keeps this capacity a secret, even from himself, because he thinks he has to adjust all his perceptions to this world, as if he’s a spectator in a theater where one play is staged over and over. He’s downplaying his power and putting himself in a straitjacket.”
Jack, in his work with patients, in his research, brought people face to face with their own “plays,” their own “worlds upon worlds,” for the purpose of liberation.
