Let me briefly cover the warm part first. You have no idea (or maybe you do) what it means for a writer to have an audience like this. Like you. People who want to read. Who show up. Who hang in there over time.

The word “appreciate” doesn’t begin to explain it. I salute and thank you. You’re like—very much like—an old friend—who comes to the house one day out of nowhere. VERY GLAD TO SEE YOU.

That’s prime number one. What follows is a longer explanation of the second thing.

On this podcast, I’ll be talking about why I keep writing at age 84, why I never fell for opportunities to write for the mainstream, why I stayed independent for the past 40 years, why I’ve been writing every day online for the past 22 years, and what it means to STAY INDEPENDENT.

Part of what’s happening in this culture is the silencing of independent voices. The voices who aren’t going along with the show, with the people in control.

Even in so-called alternative media today, there are rules. There are subjects writers aren’t supposed to touch. Why? Because the publishers are afraid of losing their audiences.

They’re CALCULATING how far they can go. They’re profiling their audiences and considering the topics that will fly and those that won’t.

They’re worried about pushback.

They’ve built a certain piece of turf and they want to protect it.

And this doesn’t just go for the permitted SUBJECTS of writing. It also goes for the permitted STYLES of writing.

“We can’t publish this piece. Our readers will object. They’ll be offended.”

Yeah, I understand that. I’ve been ignoring it for a long time.

For decades, I’ve been building my own outpost, my own island, my own media operation, my own independent place, come what may.

Because it was necessary, if I was going to keep writing, and keep writing the way I wanted to.

And along the way, I’ve been encouraging other writers to do the same.

ACTUAL writers are strange. They don’t go along to get along. Far worse, they’re always probing to find new ways of writing. They don’t stay the same. They HAVE TO keep looking for THE NEW. Otherwise, they’ll bore themselves to death.

That’s not a curse. It’s not some kind of victim back-story. It’s the plain truth.

This search for something new, something More, gives readers a different and unique experience. It may or may not be the kind of experience some readers want.

But the writer isn’t pandering to an audience.

I’m not cultivating you. I’m not tending to you like a garden. I’m not figuring all the possible angles when I write a piece. I’m not asking myself whether you’ll accept what I’m saying or the way I’m saying it.

If I were doing that, if that was the road I’d been walking all this time, I would have cut out long ago and gone to work for a major newspaper and worked my way up the line. By now I’d be a standard asshole who retired. I’d be seeing my doctor for various conditions. I’d be reminiscing with friends about days of yore and clucking about how odd the current culture is.

I never was on that road.

And when the road I HAD chosen became too predictable, I started a new one.

This one, here on substack, is a new one.

As I say, your support for my work is much appreciated. But I’m not tailoring my work to get that support. I’m not fishing in that water.

If you support what I’m doing, it’s because you want to. Which makes it all the better.

I’m at war with this culture. On all sorts of levels. I could mask that, hide it, pretend I’m doing something else, try to make things more comfortable, try to sound like a NY Times reporter who just happens to be covering subjects in a different way. I could be sober and self-contained and palatable.

But then I wouldn’t be WRITING. Not in my own eyes.

See, this is what I mean by INDEPENDENT. People use that word, but is it what they really want? Or do they want a pale shadow of it?

A long time ago, I wrote something like this: People want to make magic, but otherwise they want to stay exactly the same in their lives, but that’s impossible.

So I take the word INDEPENDENT very seriously. I keep taking it further.

When I read the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, I see INDEPENDENT and UNIQUE and INDIVIDUAL in extreme ways. As THEY WERE MEANT.

A culture is supposed to contain MANY, MANY individuals who are very different from each other. The culture is not supposed to embody freedom while at the same everybody embodies the same basic attitudes. That’s a fantasy. That isn’t freedom. That’s lip service. That’s fear of people who are genuinely different.

This culture is based on fear.

As I’ve been saying for many years, REALITY IS A CON.

It’s built to suck people in.

To give them all the same spiritual haircut.

Part of my decision to become a writer was based on my refusal to take the haircut. No matter what.

If you want to read what that’s like, what that comes out to, for one man who is a writer, you’re in the right place.

I’m going to talk about all this on the podcast. And more.

You’re cordially invited.

    No, Jon, THANK YOU!

I have been reading your stuff for years and years, so when Covid hit, and they locked down my courthouse, I knew in the first five minutes that it was all a fake.

    Thank you!

  3. Graham Kaye-Eddie says:

    Jon,

I have followed your prescient writings for decades. My age is also 84 years old.

My pathway has been focused on a holistic synthesis for the future of our Constitutional Republic.

A belief that all USA citizens are continual founders of democracy relies on their honest understanding and meaning of two words.
Servant and Master. This is addressed in people’s rights (Amendment Nine) and powers (Amendment Ten).

How do you interpret this reality for a possible opportunity solution hypothesis?

  4. Roundball Shaman says:

“Why Do I Spend My Time Fighting All This Bullshit?”

One does not choose become a Prophet. Prophets are called by The Spirit and They can do and be no other. One fights the Crap Of The World because one is called to be a prophet and offer warnings and hope to all those souls who open their hearts to listen.

Following a righteous path is an invitation to misery. There are no shortage of forces that thrive on and protect all of the toxic ideas and behaviors that flourish in our World.

But is a misery not because one is a masochist but because one is a radical believer in a better way and that human beings can be more god-like as we were created to be.

Much of Life comes down to one thing: Freedom, or Slavery. Forging your own path or being forced to fall in line with somebody else’s.

Much of Life comes down to another thing: WE WERE NOT CREATED TO BE ROBOTS. If it were the destiny of humans to be robots we would just have bee created that way. We were create NOT to be robots. Again, back to the Freedom thing.

Much of Life comes down to yet another thing: We are either on a Good Path or a Bad One. A Good Path will lead to happiness and fulfillment… and a bad one will lead only to misery.

Each of us lives within a contrived world that is created within our own heads. It is impossible for us to even share the same world.

But what matters most is our INTENT. Do we try to be better that we were yesterday? Do we try to help others even as we fail to live in their world or understand them? Do we live just for personal gain and pleasure or do we live for much greater ad higher meanings in Life? Do we live with goals and dreams… or do we just sleepwalk from one day to the next in a not-so-blissful fog.

It’s the Prophet’s Call to ask the tough questions and send out the challenge for us to open our hearts and minds to see the ugliness of the World… and discern how we can make things (and ourselves) better.

  5. Robert says:

A load of thanks and appreciation and best wishes. It’s good to know I’m not alone in this. As long as we can still laugh and marvel at this crazy kali dance. Adventure du jour. Step right up.

Jon, yes, I’m 80 and have been fighting the good fight for at least fifty years and now I am banned from FB and most social networks. Even […] won’t show my posts anymore — I think they two have joined the dark-side.

Take care and keep strong — your posts are wonderful…

I have enjoyed your writing for several years! Some of your ideas I agree with, some not! Some ideas are brilliant! And I’d like to thank you for your work and appreciate your different type of thinking because it makes me think and challenge my thinking! Thank you and sorry it took me this long to do so.

Dear Jon: Well said. A good writer like you speaks by way of cognitive / critical thinking, of which we are in short supply these days. You hit the nail on the head when you state that fear is a powerful tool to control people.

All we have to do is realize what has taken place these past two and one-half years. It has been an attempt at total mind control of the masses. Sadly, the majority of people have fallen for it.

Keep writing well into you nineties.

    Jon.

WOW. 84… I salut you. Most would have said WTF and abandoned the lot of us…

You been a source of knowledge and understanding for me for many years now.

I, and countless others owe you a real debt of gratitude…

If my kids have a future, it’s only because of the tireless efforts of people like yourself…

Long may you live. And just in case there’s an afterlife, I sincerely hope I find your words of wisdom…

  13. William R Hall Jr says:

When the world realizes the fact that viruses do not exist then all vaccines will be banned.

I figure Schwab, Fauci, Gates and the rest of their gang don’t want the public to know what they have known all along, that the virus was a fake, and they are willing to take the world to war to cover that up.

Getting that message to the public has been proven difficult so far with those in power controlling the narrative.

You have broken through the propaganda and censorship and exposed the truth and by doing that you have saved lives and quite possibly the world.

  14. A Reader emailed me the following comment:

Jon, you write: “That’s not a curse. It’s not some kind of victim back-story. It’s the plain truth”.

From THE PLAIN TRUTH bit I recalled when as a young boy in 1958, I occasionally listened on the Radio to Herbert W. Armstrong’s “Radio Church Of God” — (founded October 21, 1933 and on January 5, 1968 was renamed Worldwide Church of God), and The Plain Truth was often mentioned! I wasn’t too interested in the religious matter but the news sector was full on compared to what was available from conventional news outlets.

Once at University in 1960’s I found that many scientific research papers still came from Germany but the holocaust BULLSHIT got the upperhand and real research went out the window.

The Plain Truth never reestablished itself!

You certainly have contributed to exposing the covid bullshit etc. Let us hope all your followers will see ‘The Light’!

If one lives with nature, life is possible, one must not go against nature for we are also just part of nature, not better not worse!!

  15. Mac says:

You know this piece is a best of, that is, one of the many bests of’s — as Jon has been using his energy so long there have been many — yet this is one of those cores. It’s worth copy to paper. The contrast in independent thinking, is the difference between seeing and being part of an energy cycle, real life that should be, as expressing ourselves is self-reinforcing. It’s not hard, and everyone should.

Also Jon pointing out invitation to listen to the podcast is appreciated.

    • Mac says:

p.s. I think some may not know on that substack some people’s pages are only subscriber, though some are half open half sub so good you pointed out invitation Jon.

  16. Altavista says:

    Jon,
you are a rare and valuable individual. What you do is extraordinary.
I wish you many more healthy years and lots of fighting spirit.
