The Starfield revelation: medically caused death in America

by Jon Rappoport

October 11, 2017

During my coverage of the Las Vegas shooting, many new readers have come to my site and blog. So I want to expose them to a story I’ve been covering for years now:

Verified medical destruction of human life in America.

No mainstream news outlet wants to touch this.

Buckle up. Here we go. Here is one of the original stories I wrote about this unconscionable ongoing crime—

My 2009 interview with Dr. Barbara Starfield, a year and a half before she died, focused on her stunning exposure of medically caused death in America.

Starfield was a revered public health expert at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Her July 26, 2000, review, “Is US health really the best in the world?”, was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

In other words, this was a mainstream report. There was every reason for it to cause a firestorm in the press, and in the halls of government.

But that’s not what happened.

After a flurry of press stories, intentional amnesia set in.

If you’re looking for evidence that institutionalized American medicine doesn’t care about killing people, here it is.

Medical societies don’t care, most doctors don’t care, medical schools don’t care, public-health agencies don’t care, Congress doesn’t care, the Department of Justice doesn’t care, Presidents don’t care, drug companies don’t care, insurance companies don’t care.

As for major media and medical reporters, they intentionally hide this story and its implications every day of every year.

When people with the power to do something about medically caused death—and I’m talking about huge numbers of victims—know what’s going on and ignore it…what do you call that? Depraved indifference? Negligent homicide?

I call it murder.

Mass murder.

Barack Obama and his allies have done everything they can to bring more people into the US medical system. Changing the nature of that system has never occurred to these politicians.

Like much of America, they accept the cliches and slogans about American medicine. “It’s the best in the world.” “People are being denied treatment.” “We must take care of our citizens.”

How about this far more accurate slogan: “Let’s force more Americans to die in the care of doctors.”

The American healthcare system, like clockwork, causes a mind-boggling number of deaths every year.

On July 26, 2000, the US medical community received a titanic shock, when one of its most respected public-health experts, Dr. Barbara Starfield, revealed her findings on healthcare in America. Starfield was associated with the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

The Starfield study, “Is US health really the best in the world?”, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, came to the following conclusions:

Every year in the US there are:

* 12,000 deaths from unnecessary surgeries;

* 7,000 deaths from medication errors in hospitals;

* 20,000 deaths from other errors in hospitals;

* 80,000 deaths from infections acquired in hospitals;

* 106,000 deaths from FDA-approved correctly prescribed medicines.

The total of medically-caused deaths in the US every year is 225,000.

That’s 2.25 MILLION deaths per decade.

This makes the medical system the third leading cause of death in the US, behind heart disease and cancer.

The Starfield study is the most disturbing revelation about modern healthcare in America ever published in the mainstream.

On the heels of Starfield’s astonishing findings, media reporting was rather perfunctory, and it soon dwindled. No major newspaper or television network mounted an ongoing “Medicalgate” investigation. Neither the US Department of Justice nor federal health agencies undertook prolonged remedial action.

All in all, those parties who could have taken effective steps to correct this situation preferred to ignore it.

On December 6-7, 2009, I interviewed Dr. Starfield by email. Here are excerpts from that interview.

What has been the level and tenor of the response to your findings, since 2000?

The American public appears to have been hoodwinked into believing that more interventions lead to better health, and most people that I meet are completely unaware that the US does not have the ‘best health in the world’.

In the medical research community, have your medically-caused mortality statistics been debated, or have these figures been accepted, albeit with some degree of shame?

The findings have been accepted by those who study them. There has been only one detractor, a former medical school dean, who has received a lot of attention for claiming that the US health system is the best there is and we need more of it. He has a vested interest in medical schools and teaching hospitals (they are his constituency).

Have health agencies of the federal government consulted with you on ways to mitigate the [devastating] effects of the US medical system?

NO.

Since the FDA approves every medical drug given to the American people, and certifies it as safe and effective, how can that agency remain calm about the fact that these medicines are causing 106,000 deaths per year?

Even though there will always be adverse events that cannot be anticipated, the fact is that more and more unsafe drugs are being approved for use. Many people attribute that to the fact that the pharmaceutical industry is (for the past ten years or so) required to pay the FDA for reviews [of its new drugs]—which puts the FDA into an untenable position of working for the industry it is regulating. There is a large literature on this.

Aren’t your 2000 findings a severe indictment of the FDA and its standard practices?

They are an indictment of the US health care industry: insurance companies, specialty and disease-oriented medical academia, the pharmaceutical and device manufacturing industries, all of which contribute heavily to re-election campaigns of members of Congress. The problem is that we do not have a government that is free of influence of vested interests. Alas, [it] is a general problem of our society—which clearly unbalances democracy.

Can you offer an opinion about how the FDA can be so mortally wrong about so many drugs?

Yes, it cannot divest itself from vested interests. (Again, [there is] a large literature about this, mostly unrecognized by the people because the industry-supported media give it no attention.)

Would it be correct to say that, when your JAMA study was published in 2000, it caused a momentary stir and was thereafter ignored by the medical community and by pharmaceutical companies?

Are you sure it was a momentary stir? I still get at least one email a day asking for a reprint—ten years later! The problem is that its message is obscured by those that do not want any change in the US health care system.

Are you aware of any systematic efforts, since your 2000 JAMA study was published, to remedy the main categories of medically caused deaths in the US?

No systematic efforts; however, there have been a lot of studies. Most of them indicate higher rates [of death] than I calculated.

What was your personal reaction when you reached the conclusion that the US medical system was the third leading cause of death in the US?

I had previously done studies on international comparisons and knew that there were serious deficits in the US health care system, most notably in lack of universal coverage and a very poor primary care infrastructure. So I wasn’t surprised.

Did your 2000 JAMA study sail through peer review, or was there some opposition to publishing it?

It was rejected by the first journal that I sent it to, on the grounds that ‘it would not be interesting to readers’!

Do the 106,000 deaths from medical drugs only involve drugs prescribed to patients in hospitals, or does this statistic also cover people prescribed drugs who are not in-patients in hospitals?

I tried to include everything in my estimates. Since the commentary was written, many more dangerous drugs have been added to the marketplace.

MY COMMENTS:

This interview with Dr. Starfield reveals that, even when an author has unassailable credentials within the medical-research establishment, the findings can result in no changes made to the system.

Many persons and organizations within the medical system contribute to the annual death totals of patients, and media silence and public ignorance are certainly major factors, but the FDA is the assigned gatekeeper, when it comes to the safety of medical drugs.

The buck stops there. If those drugs the FDA is certifying as safe are killing, like clockwork, 106,000 people a year, the Agency must be held accountable. The American people must understand that.

As for the other 119,000 people killed every year as a result of hospital treatment, this horror has to be laid at the doors of those institutions. Further, to the degree that hospitals are regulated and financed by state and federal governments, the relevant health agencies assume culpability.

It is astounding, as well, that the US Department of Justice has failed to weigh in on Starfield’s findings. If 225,000 medically caused deaths per year is not a crime by the Dept. of Justice’s standards, then what is?

To my knowledge, not one person in America has been fired from a job or even censured as result of these medically caused deaths.

Dr. Starfield’s findings have been available for 15 years. She has changed the perception of the medical landscape forever. In a half-sane nation, she would be accorded a degree of recognition that would, by comparison, make the considerable list of her awards pale. And significant and swift action would have been taken to punish the perpetrators of these crimes and reform the system from its foundations.

The pharmaceutical giants stand back and carve up the populace into “promising markets.” They seek new disease labels and new profits from more and more toxic drugs. They do whatever they can—legally or illegally—to influence doctors in their prescribing habits. Many studies which show the drugs are dangerous are buried. FDA panels are filled with doctors who have drug-company ties. Legislators are incessantly lobbied and supported with pharma campaign monies.

Nutrition, the cornerstone of good health, is ignored or devalued by most physicians. Meanwhile, the FDA continues to attack nutritional supplements, even though the overall safety record of these nutrients is excellent, whereas, once again, the medical drugs the FDA certifies as safe are killing 106,000 Americans per year.

Physicians are trained to pay exclusive homage to peer-reviewed published drug studies. These doctors unfailingly ignore the fact that, if medical drugs are killing a million Americans per decade, the studies on which those drugs are based must be fraudulent. In other words, the whole literature is suspect, unreliable, and impenetrable.

But they love me and we are all equal comrades of the people’s collective. Our government is honest and it is the best that money can buy. Our sickcare system is the bestest in the world and now that comrade Obama has made it even better it is super duper! We will all hold hands and sing Kumbaya as we ride our mommygov provided unicorns over to the magic chocolate fountain and fill our hollow participation trophies to overflowing. Forward! The Great Leap Forward.

The fiction of our supposed great U.S. ‘health care’ system. It’s really a system of bullying and intimidation with ever-dwindling choices, outrageous costs and lots and lots of DEATH and disease!

  3. The state is a quiet evil death giver forcing people to take shots and fooling people into thinking drugs and vaccinations are good. Those people run mental places of all kinds. They are witches and some sorcerers that God does not like.

  4. I stopped going to the doctor about a decade ago after I was sent home with a bag full of anti-depressants for lower back pain associated with PMS. Now I’ve even stopped going to the dentist since they try to push useless products on me and use similar tactics of intellectual intimidation to increase revenues. Appalling and unprofessional, imo.

    • Spiritof42 says:

Had the same dentist for 20 years. I thought he was getting progressive when he phased out mercury fillings. Then about six years ago, he started pushing fouride treatments. Of course I refused. But every year he felt obligated to tell me why I should get flouride treatments. (I don’t get cavities.). Finally I called it quits when he insisted on x-rays every year.

No more yearly checkups. I won’t go unless I have a definite need for his services.

      • joe says:

The headline article is tough to digest but seems accurate. Dental care is important for other organs like your heart for avoiding future problems as you age. The x-rays do help show cracks that may make matters worse as they often occur. Fluoride in my opinion is over rated and still not researched well enough.

If a doctor has no clue about nutrition it is time to get up and leave. Finally found a good doctor and she went back to India. At least I got some things done thanks to her referrals and she was surprised when thanked for those referrals.
The hospital cut off the health care after costing them too much. It is a yearly increments plan that is a copy of medicare plan B. Only for residents with an established address and you must prove that you are not within a certain income bracket. For profit hospitals laugh at the healthcare is a right mantra fostered by the Chicago Jesus Messiah and Berniebot comrades.
One doctor told me aspartame and high fructose corn syrup are not bad for you and it was time to exit. Haven’t visited any white coats all year and it is great. Family is on my case and I say why should I visit just to get some more pills that suck.
They act like the mchealthcarez is going to be cut off if it is not used and so what if it is.

This nation doesn’t promote or support decent healthcare provided to people by using revenue from OIL SALES as did Iraq, Libya, Iran etc.
This country bombs them into the stone age, STEALS their resources, grants multi billion dollar TAX BREAKS to their “owners” running the oil companies and “gifts” us with Obamacare.

Well, all but the Judas Class in D.C. THEY “gifted” themselves with a “waiver”…. while we watched “the game” or whom was “servicing” the Kardashians..

The above pretty much explains why we still have a Rothschild Central Bank, fractionalized reserve banking, the IRS, wage earner tax, for OVER 100 years. ALL unconstitutional.

    • Annie says:

Doctors WILL cut you off if you don’t go. Earlier this year I had to get a Doctor’s note because my boss didn’t believe that I was sick. I contacted my primary care doctor’s office for an appointment only to find that they had dropped me out of their computer system at 3 years and would have destroyed ALL of my physical medical records at 7 years (just missed that one, so they did still have records of me being a patient once they dug them out). They claimed I was no longer their patient in spite of their still having my records and never notifying me of any of this, so NO, I could not get an appointment with my primary care doctor. I ended up going to the emergency room ($$$$) to get a doctor’s note so that I wouldn’t get fired. So, depending on your situation it might be worth setting up a “wellness check” or whatever they call it with your doctor every couple years even if you refuse all tests and treatments just to make sure that they haven’t dropped you as a patient.

      • jacobite2015 says:

That doesn’t work anymore for some medical providers…they’ll drop you in a heartbeat for not complying with their vaccine schedule!

Several years ago I was bitten by a dog who got out of an open gate while I was out on a relaxing jog. I sought medical treatment for the bite but refused a recommended tetanus shot. My primary care doctor, who seemed overly upset about my refusal, also tried to push the TdaP vaccine on me. Again, I refused the stupid vaccine arguing that healthy organic nutrition, supplements & regular excercise can do wonders for your immune system. The overly imperious doctor said, “that doesn’t matter, those things aren’t proven by science…vaccines are your best bet for your immunity.” I laughed and said I’m out of here…wishing the doctor a good day (in retrospect I wished I hadn’t made the appt in the first place).

About a week later, I received a letter from the doctor stating that he would no longer be my provider because of non-compliance, rejecting recommended medical treatment, not interested in having a “good doctor-patient relationship,” and all that BS. This shows the power & control that physicians want over their patients. And if you’re not a “good, little & obedient” patient, then the overbearing physicians take it personal and 86 you.

This incident with my primary care doctor was before a family member of mine had sadly passed away from complications from a vaccine-induced autoimmune disease and drug-induced organ failure, which stemmed from the same drugs that were used to treat her autoimmune disease in the first place! Iatrogenic damage at it’s best here! Now…if I have to reluctantly seek medical services (I had to recently for an auto accident), and they start with the vaccine crap, I tell them the story of my family member’s death and they usually backoff.

This is my favorite subject that Jon posts about. I appreciate him bringing out the truth of the system and hopefully this will educate people as to what they’re up against with the medical cartel. And that is the problem; if you really need medical care (accidents, trauma, etc.), you’re faced with having to put up with vaccine BS, even though it has no bearing on the injuries that you want treated.

It would be interesting if a M.D. or other medical professional, who maybe reads these posts on occasion would chime in and explain their obsession with vaccines, and the need to aggressively force them on their patients. Are you, doctors, being compelled by your bosses & the AMA to force vaccines on patients? Are you, doctors, oblivious to the industry-funded safety studies involving vaccines? Are you, doctors, just being obedient to the CDC’s demands and could care less about the serious & sometimes fatal complications some people experience from vaccines?

Lots of questions, but never any answers from the foot soldiers of modern medicine…imagine that. The system is destructive…no surprises there! Spot-on Jon!

  6. Diane Wilson says:

While I am sure there are many good and caring people in the medical profession, most have their hands tied when it comes to treating people with anything other than the latest drug and / or surgery. The good news is there are many using alternative modes of healing and are refusing to take drugs prescribed by their doctors because they are aware of the dangerous side effects. There is a new book out by Anthony William called Medical Medium and Life Changing Foods which discloses the truth about why people are so sick and what is causing so many illnesses. He goes on to show people how to heal by doing a heavy metal detox with food and supplements. If only the doctors and nurses would read this book and his blog they could truly help their patients.

  7. And that doesn’t account for the infant deaths due to vaccines and autism which destroys families, too. I know because I have twins with autism. Raising them was the most difficult thing and still is. They will never be able to live independently. Even though I’m not sure my twins (adopted) have autism due to vaccines, I have plenty of friends who do have children with autism as a result of vaccinations and you won’t convince me otherwise. Greed has destroyed these families’ lives forever. Unless you live with a child with severe autism you don’t know the hell they go through. Unless you’ve lived changing diapers of an autistic child for 22 years you don’t know how hard life is. Nothing is ever spontaneous in life. Marriages are destroyed. Siblings’ lives are affected to the point of PTSD and drug use. The ripple effects of lives touched by autism ONLY are tragic and horrifying. And I’m not being hyperbolic. I live it every. single. day.

    • And I’m also thankful and grateful that most of my adult life I’ve been without health insurance. This has allowed my body to heal itself naturally in so many ways. I’m very, very blessed because I had to learn how to take care of myself without much medical intervention at all. Now that I have medical insurance, I use it temperately and fortunately have a medical practitioner who has a holistic-homeopathic bent. She is very stingy with antibiotics and other drugs. I like it that way.

    • LMP says:

Thank you for the bravery to share this tragic story Karla. These situations are so SAD but I tend to feel mostly ANGER because the “experts” in different arenas carry the power to change things, but they choose to remain in complete DENIAL and families continue to suffer.

  10. Allan Howard says:

So since her study was published in July 2000, 3,825,000 people have died because no-one took a blind bit of notice. But then what the heck does that matter as long as you keep enriching yourselves and giving your minions a nice slice of the cake. We live in a Psychopathocracy, and everything stems from that – the deaths of millions from wars and malnutrition etc, and the rape and plunder and poisoning of the planet.

  11. TwinMomHQ says:

It can be found by searching you tube for “Jon Rappoport Eugenics”. He turns his razor sharp mind astutely to the topic.

My wife is a nurse practitioner. She was a cardiovascular nurse for decades before that as well as working in neonatal care. I’m glad you didn’t mention nurses not caring because most do care immensely about what they do and their patients and therein lies the problem. They learn to a tee what they are taught and follow accordingly. They believe everything and few question the American health care system. It took me years of discussions and arguments with her before the spell was broken and although she has awakened to the reality of the system she still believes doctors care and know what they’re doing. She has at least also switched to one of the only real aspects of health care that there is. She runs a program for a major hospital teaching weight loss and healthy eating habits but is still not allowed to waiver from the pharmaceutical system or talk about GMO foods, organic foods or things such as high fructose corn syrup. We still have big differences in opinions on drug uses as well. she has been very deeply indoctrinated and seems unable to truly accept that those above don’t want to heal people. She will be shown this blog tonight and not for the first time.

I hear you! I’ve had a long history of serious side effects with prescription drugs. About 10 years ago my God led me to cease taking all medications and to trust him with my health. Since then he has helped me to find alternative ways of dealing with pain that don’t include prescription medications, much to the displeasure of some medical professionals, but not all. I get a lot of flack over the fact that I have been prescription drug dependent free for over 10 years. I have learned that exercise, eating healthier and eating less does wonders for the body. Thanks for what you shared. Sue Love

And, once again, the numbers of people being killed outright, or seeded with disease via the damned vaccinations (cancer & leukemia, auto-immune diseases, intestinal disorders like Crohn’s disease, asthma, allergies, from mild to life-threatening, various brain disorders and organ damage, and so much more) is the Medical Mafia’s most cherished secret weapon.

The government AND media are now being run by the pharmaceutical empire and associated industries.

Is the health insurance business a racket? Yes, literally. And this is why the shameless pandering to robber baron corporations posing as “health providers” is such an egregious … and obvious … tactic to do nothing more than plump up insurance company profits.

Jon, I have been prescription drug dependent free for over 10 years now, and I am exercising daily, eating healthier and eating less, and I feel so much better! And, I’ve lost 30 lb.

I’ve had a long history of very bad reactions to drugs, so my God led me to cease taking all medications. But, the medical profession, for the most part, is not supportive of this. In fact, I have been mocked recently by a doctor, and told that God sent me drugs as my “savior.” My response to him was that God did not send me drugs. He sent me exercise, fruits and vegetables, i.e. a healthy diet and lifestyle, and trust in him, instead of in drugs to be my savior.

It is tough to take this stand, because the doctors have such power over people, and are often raised up as though they are “gods,” but they are human, just like us, and they make mistakes, but they need to own up to those mistakes and make the necessary changes for the sake of the people who put their trust and their lives in their hands. It is not just hospitals. My mom’s assisted living accidentally gave her another person’s meds. They had to pump her stomach and who knows how much pain that put my mom through. When I went to visit in the morning, there was a lot of confusion and wrappers and the room was disorderly. I went every day and it had been fine the day before. I asked the administrator what had happened. She said by law they didn’t have to tell me, but they did so anyway. They didn’t fire the immigrant aide who made the mistake. I just wondered if she still had problems with the English language and maybe that caused her to mix up the residents. What made me the angriest in this experience was the news that the law did not require the institution to inform the family of the mishap. It should not be okay fro them to hide this – most families would want to have their regular doctor examine the person after such an event. Depending on the medications involved, this could have had much more serious effects on my mom than merely an unpleasant night. I wonder how many deaths are caused by medications in assisted living and nursing homes.

  20. abinico warez says:

  22. Ed says:

“there were serious deficits in the US health care system, most notably in lack of universal coverage ”
