Is the individual an outmoded idea?

LIVE IN THE COLLECTIVE AND FORGET WHO YOU ARE

by Jon Rappoport

September 17, 2017

We are now told it’s selfish and greedy to promote freedom for the individual. It’s old-fashioned. It’s passe. It’s dangerous. It’s nothing more than a ruse floated by the rich to hold down the poor.

Forget about the fact that the next Einstein or Tesla, growing up in what has become a collectivist society, could be slammed with Ritalin, Prozac, and even heavier drugs—because they’re “abnormal.”

Someday, an anthropologist will write a celebrated history of this country, and it’ll be all about cultural trends and group customs, and no one will even remember there was such an idea as The Individual.

By that time, the population of what was once the United States will live in a theocracy dedicated to Mother Earth, and every day for half an hour, the people will kneel and pray, together, from coast to coast, for mercy from this Mother.

And the people will be happy doing it—such as they understand happiness. They will glorify The Group. They will live under the great dome of the Flying Drones and they will rejoice in their solidarity.

They will willingly submit to all forms of surveillance, because it is in the interest of the Whole, the collective, the mass. After all, who would depart from the rules and sentiments of The Group? Only the outcasts. Only those bitter clingers who still believe they are unique individuals and have desires and power. Who needs them? Who wants them? They’re primitive throwbacks. They’re sick and they need treatment.

If you look, you can see the changes taking place right in front of your own eyes. You can see The Individual fading out as a concept. You can see its replacement—the group and its needs—coming on strong. You can know where we’re heading.

One day, you’ll be able to tell your grandchildren there was once a time when there was a completely different conception of existence, and you’ll be able to regale them with stories of the impossible. Stories of individuals.

Of course, they won’t believe you. They won’t be able to fathom what in the world you’re talking about. But that doesn’t matter. They’ll listen in rapt wonder, just as we now admiringly contemplate tales of strange creatures and mountain gods of the ancient Greeks.

It’ll be fun to look back on our time.

Don’t worry. It doesn’t matter. History is merely an anthropological catalog of trends, a series of customs. We pass from one epoch to another. What was true and important in one time becomes meaningless later.

Just “come together for the great healing.” That’s all you need to think about now. It’ll all work out. And if it doesn’t, you won’t remember the failure anyway.

Coda: What’s that? I can’t hear you. Speak a little louder. Oh…I see. You’re saying we the people are getting ripped off by our leaders and their secret controllers. Yes. Well, sure, that’s true.

And yes…if we all came together perhaps we could throw off these controllers and assert our independence once again. Yes.

But then I ask you this:

After we’ve won the great battle, what do we do next? Do we parade around, from town to town, from city to city, a hundred million of us, a great caravan, extolling our group victory? Is that what we do for the rest of eternity?

Or did we fight and win the great battle for another reason?

Did we perhaps fight and win so we could reestablish the individual as the basis and the object of freedom?

Wasn’t that really the reason we were in this fight?

If you’re going to fight and fight to win, it helps to know why you’re in the battle, why you’re really in it.

  1. James Freeman says:

It is so obvious that every single human being on planet Earth is completely different that someone would have to be brain dead not to see those differences.
Different likes and dislikes, different knowing’s what is true for them, etc., etc..
We all must live our lives, the good along with the bad, it has to be our own decision to make.
I am not a cookie cutter likeness of any other person on Earth. I can choose to accept or not accept any other’s ideas as long as they do not foist them on me.
I have (I believe), good morals so don’t try to tell me what you think your (so called) laws (laws made outside the laws of God and God’s nature), should be.
I am not the most educated person on earth but no one is above or beneath me, so if you are the quarrelsome kind or think you have authority, go see someone else but leave me alone.

And given the current form of the civilization humans have built, and sustain… how is it possible for an INDIVIDUAL to exist?

  3. mystica says:

First there’s the consciousness of a group, and within the group, all issues about rights and responsibility are solved. Then there’s the consciousness of being an individual, with individual needs, that has to survive by taking other life. Then there’s the consciousness of the “ME”, the consciousness of being more than just an individual, an entity between total dependence through desire, and total freedom through renounciation. On this level, a continuous struggle between the “Me” and the “You” is happening, the question how far you can go to achieve your proper realization as a self-conscious individual. Then there’s the consciousness of a higher self and a higher realm and the growing desire to become one with it. And then there’s the consciousness of being One with All, of being an inividual as well as everyone and everything.
If the consciousness of being an individual is destroyed by outer forces, the described evolution can never take place, hence oneness can never be achieved. The individual becomes a weak half-conscious being, its personality is hijacked, and the vampires easily feed on the defenseless prey.

    • Theodore says:

ref: “And then there’s the consciousness of being One with All, of being an inividual as well as everyone and everything.”

As a unique Immortal Spiritual Being, I have no desire of ‘being One with All’. I don’t see a benefit for me in that.

      • mystica says:

This corresponds to your state of consciousness.

        • Theodore says:

why would i want ‘being One with All’ as one of my ‘states of consciousness’?

          • honestliberty says:

            Right on Theodore,
Did you catch the dismissive arrogance of that supposed mystic?
That person implied greater understanding and authority that you just couldn’t comprehend because you aren’t “enlightened”.

Pure rubbish. Keep your judgement mystic; it’s the great hypocrisy that has escaped you new age people. You really don’t get just how big of a hypocrite you are.

      • Fabienne Aubry says:

The comment of mystica as well as the reply to Theodore wasn’t understood by any of you. You’re so busy defending your individuality here and now that you’re missing the actual sense of what was written. The last sentence of the comment above is perfectly in line with what you guys sustain. For the rest, the path described isn’t possibly the one that can be walked in this life on this planet alone. So far to you being an “Immortal Spiritual Being”.

        • Theodore says:

          Hi Fabienne,

Again, I ask,… as an ‘Immortal Spiritual Being (which I believe I am), why would i want ‘being One with All’ as one of my ‘states of consciousness’?

          I’m just asking.

    • mystica:

“First there’s the consciousness of a group ,…” -mystica

      Wrong troll!
First comes the individual, then secondly comes the individual again, and lastly, comes the individual again.
Never listen to the group ever. Never ever listen to the group.

‘The collective’ is a scam. It’s like so many scams hidden in various ‘isms’.
The range of physical coercion that can be exerted by a human being is extremely limited. It’s limited by the range of a sword, bow, or rifle. So, ‘pretty words’ must be spouted to convince others to go along with the plunder of those who produce physical wealth.
Look who most ‘leaders ‘ are today. Fat, weak, old psychopaths. Could they physically coerce anyone ?
They use word concepts like ‘the nation’, ‘the community’, and ‘the collective’ to convince others to do their dirty work. The brainwashing of the population starts early.

People enslave themselves & their fellows in the name of illusions.

  5. What excellent timing! I was just reading in “Rules for Radicals” by Saul Alinsky, “The practical revolutionary will understand Goethe’s ‘conscience is the virtue of observers and not of agents of action’; in action, one does not always enjoy the luxury of a decision that is consistent both with one’s individual conscience and the good of mankind. The choice must always be for the latter. Action is for mass salvation and not for the individual’s personal salvation. He who sacrifices the mass good for his personal conscience has a peculiar conception of ‘personal salvation’, he doesn’t care enough for people to be ‘corrupted’ for them.”
What hogwash! I nearly vomited in my mouth and had to run to JR blog for a moment of sanity and a slice of clear-headed rationality where this whole book ‘they’ seem to love is a word-salad of dualistic maneuverings to keep intrinsic, objective truth and natural law forever at bay.

      Hey sho..
I read your last post on your site about the gulf. Excellent. Equally excellent response you have here. Spot on.
Mark Passio talks a lot about order followers and brain damage. His natural law seminar is dry and repetitive, but worth the viewing.
It is definitely about living outside of natural law, which is why bushie Sr announced the jaw of the jungle dead in September 11, 1991. They fear our true power so they must truck the masses into relinquishing it for the common good. So sad

    • Thisizwhack says:

+kenshohomestead Good catch! Keep in mind that Goethe was a high-level Freemason as well as a member of the Bavarian Illuminati & that a good portion of ‘their’ material tends to read more as an indoctrination/programming, desired to illicit a particular (programmed) response in terms of thinking, rather than mere eloquent elucidations.

      Great article, BTW!!

  6. kittyantonikwakfer says:

Yes, in order to “win the battle” for the individual as the basis of society, each person must first understand that this alone *is* the proper basis – and how that environment of individual rational self-interest will automatically also promote the longterm best interest of all at the same time. If one doesn’t have the right goal and the philosophical basis foundation for that goal then the path being taken is likely to lead someplace undesirable.

Good points are also made by commenter James Freeman on the essential uniqueness of each individual human on earth. This fact is one of the many from a variety of science and social disciplines which are integrated to create a new approach to the basis and determination of the optimal methods of social interactions within society as shown in http://selfsip.org/fundamentals/socialmetaneeds.html

Social Meta-Needs are those environmental conditions of interaction that can exist within human society and stably self-order it so that each individual can gain all goods and services needed to optimally increase his lifetime happiness. The foundation for social meta-needs is shown in the above link to be a redefined ‘ethical egoism’ as the *necessary purpose* of any individual’s life. Public social preferencing in a fully open society becomes the ultimate arbiter of individual action and effector of a social order of maximal liberty.

The details are all important in any concept and they are within the treatise “Social Meta-Needs: A New Basis for Optimal Interaction” and its many links, including annotations to the technical terms’ definitions used for precision of meaning. Together with the twin-framework implementations of the Social Meta-Needs theory – The Natural Social Contract (a new conception with no relation to Rousseau’s or anyone else’s) & Social Preferencing – is envisioned the replacements for existing governments and centralized institutions, all of which are described & regulated (in the US alone) via thousands of volumes & many millions (?billions?) of words enabling tens of thousands of lawyers, doctors and other “professionals” to lucratively serve as “gatekeepers” for the common folk. This is not a breezy read, so a reader needs to make some time to go through it. I say this as a warning for those looking for & used to soundbites to walk away with, thinking that such short, trite phrasings are really sufficiently foundational and meaningful to serve as a solutions to serious social problems. Intellectual chewing is urged, and public reasoned critiques and/or questions using quotes once reading has taken place are very much welcomed. http://selfsip.org/fundamentals/socialmetaneeds.html

  7. From Quebec says:

Freethinkers are those who are willing to use their minds without prejudice and without fearing to understand things that clash with their own customs, privileges, or beliefs. This state of mind is not common, but it is essential for right thinking…

  8. Zil Trabant says:

The go along and get along attitude certainly doesn’t help.
Cultural Marxism aka PC is another big weapon of the controllers.
As for me I’ll take being an outcast and never sell my soul for a few sheckels or approval from some fake phony shitweasel with a sail fawn (cellphone) in their hand.
The sub par mediocre minds of the groupthink will wear their chains with pride because if they ever had an original thought they would recoil in horror or call the nearest big pharma sales representative aka a doctor.

  9. I am the living example of success, Jon.

You see because insanity is “rule based” now, you have figure something that falls outside those rules. Providing it doesn’t parry with the mainstream, you’ve found that dreadful place that no one, and I mean no one, dare touch.

Forget any notion of popularity. I think I am valued about as much as a broken toilet that’s never used. Too much effort to dispose of, it lays there forgotten perhaps awaiting discovery in some distant future and a more forgiving age.

  10. Bob Klinck says:

The concept of the freedom of the individual to choose has come to us via the words and actions of Christ–not, note, the intellectualizing or clerical organizing of the generations since. This is why those who wish to bury the individual in the group have a visceral aversion to Jesus’s example and strive to suppress and distort it in every way.

  11. JB says:

There are three personality types; those who are content to control their own behavior, those who want to control others, and those who want to be controlled. All social and governmental problems derive from the 2nd and 3rd types.
