The FBI evidence lab, a cesspool

The FBI evidence lab, a cesspool

In these pages, I’ve emphasized that mainstream news often fails to follow up on their own stories.

They publish a shocking account of a scandal, and then they drop it like a hot potato.

Why? There are several reasons, but the most important is: the scandal is too revealing. It indicts an institution or organization that, in the long run, must be protected.

In 2014-15, stories appeared in the press about the phenomenal corruption of the FBI evidence lab. But since then, there has been very little follow-up. I find no compelling evidence that the federal government has fixed the problem.

Here is a sample of the 2014-15 stories:

April 20, 2015, The Atlantic: “…the Washington Post made clear Saturday in an article that begins with a punch to the gut… ‘Nearly every examiner in an elite FBI forensic unit gave flawed testimony in almost all trials in which they offered evidence against criminal defendants over more than a two-decade period before 2000,’ the newspaper reported, adding that ‘the cases include those of 32 defendants sentenced to death’.”

August 12, 2014, New Scientist: “…the initial results were released of an ongoing review of thousands of criminal cases in which FBI scientists’ testimony may have led to wrongful convictions – including for some people now on death row…[an FBI source states] ’we teach these people [lab techs in training] for two weeks, and they would go back to their laboratories with a certificate of completion and be told: Great you’re qualified to do this [analysis of evidence] – here’s your caseload.’”

Washington Post, April 18, 2015: “The Justice Department and FBI have formally acknowledged that nearly every examiner in an elite FBI forensic unit gave flawed testimony in almost all trials in which they offered evidence against criminal defendants over more than a two-decade period before 2000.”

“Of 28 examiners with the FBI Laboratory’s microscopic hair comparison unit, 26 overstated forensic matches in ways that favored prosecutors in more than 95 percent of the 268 trials reviewed so far, according to the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL) and the Innocence Project, which are assisting the government with the country’s largest post-conviction review of questioned forensic evidence.”

“The cases include those of 32 defendants sentenced to death. Of those, 14 have been executed or died in prison, the groups said under an agreement with the government to release results after the review of the first 200 convictions.”

Giant long-term scandal and corruption. The story is covered. Then it disappears.

Here is one reason why. If the press outlets continued to search out every aspect of the story, they would come upon numerous prosecutors who routinely relied on false FBI lab reports in trials. Some of those prosecutors would be exposed for knowingly accepting fake evidence from the FBI, in order to make their cases.

The scandal would spread like ink on a blotter.

Major media news picks their spots. They choose to pound on certain stories day after day, in an effort to convince the public of certain “facts.” They studiously refuse to dig and keep digging on other stories, hoping the public will forget.

Remember this, forget that.

Journalism schools don’t teach their students that this is the way to do news. After graduating and finding jobs, young reporters catch on.

They catch on and go along.

That’s how their ideals crumble and disintegrate.

That’s how they become agents and blunt weapons for their bosses.

That’s how they become alcoholics and denizens traveling through a dim underworld of lies.

Nicely stated conclusion. Various business sectors, such as medicine, have given me pause to wonder how the practitioners have lost their souls. Now I know in journalism. It is no different than the backside at the racetrack where idealism, passion for and love of horses meets the cruel side of a brutal gaming industry. Its mostly the lesser known, grooms, who spiral into drugs, drink and debt.

Excellent reminder Jon. Thank you. RIP Jerry Lewis – he can once again do battle with Deanno…????.

    Good comment Joanie.

The MSM could not even write a Soap Opera, because they can not follow-up on a plot..

It is rare in soaps to have a quick wrap-up of a storyline, and it is even rarer for a story to affect only one or two characters. Most often, a storyline affects several characters and possibly interconnects with other stories.

But esteemed party member comrade commissar James Comey took that mega villian archcriminal Martha Stewart off the streets for lying.

The MSM cannot even change peoples mind.

There is a Trump rally at 7 PM tonight in Phoenix, AZ.. Right side is covering it right now. There are people who are there since 7 AM in the morning and it is really hot. The line is incredible. It makes me so happy to see that MSM do not influence them one bit.

The publishers and some reporters are being black mailed.

Read ‘The Franklin Cover-up’. To recap, a state senator is assigned to minimize the losses of a state insured credit union that went bankrupt. He found financial fraud and child kidnapping, prostitution, and murder. He named names everybody threatened to sue him but nobody did. It turned out that the deep state can assist helpful people who want power and hinder those who have different goals than the deep state. To ensure loyalty, those who want the assistance must be filmed having sex with, or killing, a child.

Judges, Congressmen, mayors, media personalities, publishers, and corporate heads are all being black mailed. Oliver North ran the operation. North never sued the author. Warren Buffet paid 10 million dollars to get removed from the case and he never sued the author. If you want to make sense of the craziness that you see every day, I suggest reading this book. The author was the first person to successfully bring suit against the Catholic church for the sexual abuse of children. This builds some credibility for him.

You may ask how could this be public and nobody outside of one state ever be told of if by their media. That is a good question.

That is a very important book for many reasons Henry, thanks for sharing this.
I ask myself how people look the other way and do not protect those who can not defend themselves.
my own family who i don’t speak to anymore, never wanted to discuss anything important. “Its too unpleasant to talk about”
“You are so negative” and outright screamed at to SHUT UP, blah blah blah…..

The reason this isn’t discussed is because if something is discussed the next step is action. Humans are corrupt and don’t want to admit they are, so they remain silent and think that will protect them from judgement or having to get involved.

“Hit-and-run” news reporting, errors of omission, biased polls, fabricated statistics, use of anonymous sources and the soul-selling betrayal of establishment journalists appear to mirror the ethical decline of the nation.

  8. Jon,

And they complain about torturous practices and hung “Starra” courts of Middle Ages Europe. Has anything changed?

Justice (sic) is always heavily rigged in favour of those that “control” and always will be.

    Best

Scary for everyone that has an independent brain because we are the ones at risk not The Clintons or Podestas etc.

  10. Yet there are surprisingly many who are genuine whistleblowers with real integrity and have to forfeit all because they cannot deny the truth. Thank goodness.
