Shut down the FDA, start over

Vera Sharav, at ahrp.org, has posted a piece about an investigation headed by NYU Professor Charles Seife.
Seife and his students probed the work of the FDA, the federal agency tasked with approving medical drugs for public use.
Sharav: “FDA documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, revealed that the FDA has been concealing from the medical community and the public serious research misconduct; including fraud, deception, avoidable risks for human subjects — even deaths — that occurred in clinical trials [of medical drugs].”
Professor Seife (from his article at Slate magazine): “Reading the FDA’s inspection files feels almost like watching a highlights reel from a Scientists Gone Wild video. It’s a seemingly endless stream of lurid vignettes—Faked X-ray reports. Forged retinal scans. Phony lab tests. Secretly amputated limbs. All done in the name of science when researchers thought that nobody was watching.”
“That misconduct happens isn’t shocking. What is: When the FDA finds scientific fraud or misconduct, the agency doesn’t notify the public, the medical establishment, or even the scientific community that the results of a medical experiment are not to be trusted. On the contrary. For more than a decade, the FDA has shown a pattern of burying the details of misconduct. As a result, nobody ever finds out which data is bogus, which experiments are tainted, and which drugs might be on the market under false pretenses.”
“The FDA has repeatedly hidden evidence of scientific fraud not just from the public, but also from its most trusted scientific advisers, even as they were deciding whether or not a new drug should be allowed on the market. Even a congressional panel investigating a case of fraud regarding a dangerous drug couldn’t get forthright answers. For an agency devoted to protecting the public from bogus medical science, the FDA seems to be spending an awful lot of effort protecting the perpetrators of bogus science from the public.”
There is much more, but that taste should be enough to convince any sane person that the FDA is a rogue agency, dedicated to protecting and forwarding the profits of pharmaceutical companies.
In past articles, I’ve revealed that, every year in the US, FDA-approved medical drugs kill 106,000 Americans. This conservative assessment was made by Dr. Barbara Starfield, in her landmark July 26, 2000, review in the Journal of the American Medical Association: “Is US Health Really the Best in the World?”
In my 2009 interview with Dr. Starfield, she emphatically stated that she was aware of no systematic federal effort to fix this horrendous ongoing disaster.
In fact, the FDA had (until they removed it) a page on their own site which stated: “Over 2 MILLION serious ADRs (adverse drug reactions yearly.” “100,000 DEATHS yearly.” The FDA was highlighting the catastrophic effects of medical drugs they themselves were certifying as safe and effective. Of course, they took no responsibility.
This is on the order of a defendant saying, “Did I kill people? Well, if you look in that field over there, if you start digging, you’ll find a number of bodies. I know. I put them there. But I wasn’t really responsible. Why would you place me on trial?”
In a stunning interview with Truthout’s Martha Rosenberg (7/29/12), former FDA drug reviewer, Ronald Kavanagh, exposed the FDA as a relentless criminal mafia protecting its client, Big Pharma, with a host of mob strategies:
Kavanagh: “…widespread racketeering, including witness tampering and witness retaliation.”
“I was threatened with prison.”
“One [FDA] manager threatened my children…I was afraid that I could be killed for talking to Congress and criminal investigators.”
Kavanagh reviewed new drug applications made to the FDA by pharmaceutical companies. He was one of the holdouts at the agency who insisted the drugs had to be safe and effective before being released to the public.
But honest appraisal wasn’t part of the FDA culture, and Kavanagh swam against the tide, until he realized his life and the life of his children was on the line.
What was his secret task at the FDA? “Drug reviewers were clearly told not to question drug companies and that our job was to approve drugs.” In other words, rubber stamp them. Say the drugs were safe and effective when they were not.
Veterans of the Armed Forces, take note: Kavanagh remarked that the drug pyridostigmine, given to US troops to prevent the later effects of nerve gas, “actually increased the lethality” of certain nerve agents.
Kavanagh recalled being given records of safety data on a drug—and then his bosses told him which sections not to read. Obviously, they knew the drug was dangerous and they knew exactly where, in the reports, that fact would be revealed.
Getting the picture?
Anyone who believes the FDA can be fixed with a few adjustments to rules and a few personnel changes is whistling in the dark.
Talk about a swamp.
Nothing short of shutting down the Agency, fumigating the buildings, and starting over with actual humans in charge, humans who believe in human health, would work.
Scores of criminal prosecutions, convictions, and very long prison terms for current FDA employees would also be necessary.

So much gov’t corruption it’s mind-boggling. And I agree; dump the agency AND Big Pharma.
What makes you think that starting over would work? Regulatory agencies will ALWAYS be captured by the businesses they regulate. So in the short run things might be better, but in the long run nothing would change.
Total deregulation would be better, because at least it would not create the illusion that new drugs have actually been tested for safety and efficacy.
It’s not just the licensing of dangerous drugs, though. The FDA prevents new drugs/supplements/techniques that are actually helpful from coming to market (just read Andy Marino’s book, Going Somewhere, for his experiences).
So the current system licenses drugs/procedures that are harmful and prevents helpful drugs/procedures from coming to market, all while convincing most people that we live in the best of all worlds…
You cannot mention the FDA without including its incestuous twin, the CDC.

Actually, the FDA has several sock puppet accounts. Maybe you have all heard of them? CIA/ NSA/ FBI/ BATF/ CDC/ Supreme Court, I might have forgotten a few, too. Honestly, we would be better off without the FDA and CDC and Medical licensing and regulation. Regulation is a prison. Freedom (choice) does not require regulation.
For many years I have advocated the same.
Shut down the FDA. After my children’s vaccine poisonings I realized only a decommissioning of the agency could solve that problem.

Years ago I learned the truth about toxic vaccines. I watched a very old film on the internet where they were utilizing college kids in testing vaccines. I would say the kids were from the 50’s era. In the film they all wore white sweatshirts while being filmed. During the film it was said that vaccines were never meant to prevent disease and that they were meant to weaken the immune system and spread disease. I have not been able to find that film again but have not checked recently. Anyway, since then the only name I have for the FDA is the Federal Death Agency. The agency is a complete fraud as is much of our so-called healthcare system along with all the alphabet agencies.
Anyone surprised at this. This country and the gooberment agencies are a disgrace to say the least!

The real problem is NOT the FDA, EPA, NASA, DOE, etc. Every federal research agency whose annual budget is controlled by NAS should be closed.
After nations and national academies of sciences were united under the United Nations on 24 OCT 1945, annual review of budgets for federal research agencies were given to the National Academies of Sciences.

I can’t think of a socially responsible government agency. In fact, I’ll go farther. I can’t think of a socially responsible government. Did you know there are over 100 million “official” charities globally?
Why is there ONE charity, if government met it’s responsibilities to the people? Is that what “globalism’s” all about?

They create high paying jobs for members for the shadow elite, since there are not enough good paying jobs to support shadow gov without the “charity” positions.to add a few more important people.

The FDA, Health Canada and all such regulators are utterly corrupt and unreformable. Agreed. The only likely way for this to happen is to crash the whole system. No Obamacare and no replacement. Let governments cut public health funding to relieve the tax burden of the 1%. Higher drug and insurance costs across the board. More, more, more bureaucratic bossiness. Double down in the American style. If they don’t just kill you outright, they’ll ruin you.
The hoi polloi is lazy, stupid, selfish. “I’m alright Jack!” The racketeers will keep raking it in. Kinda like the French aristocracy circa 1787. But at some point, there’s a Tipping Point. Then, hellfire.

Anytime the government is involved, there is Institutionalized Corruption. It is inherent to the system.
What is missing is LAW: Essentially, “do all you have agreed to do and do not encroach on other persons or their property”. Or , something akin to this.
As long as government is considered sovereign to Law or above the Law, nothing will really change. Now, whether this is done peacefully or the breakdown of “society” is compelled is another thing.
Your good at reporting the miscarriages of “justice” and the abuse of power. Consider this, If the States GRANTED the government existence. How can the government legislate, decree, or rule above the sovereignty of the States? If Law exists above and separate from the States, how can the states create Law? And most importantly, what does the Oath of Office really mean? I will tell you that the Oath of Office is a LEGAL AND BINDING CONTRACT!!! However, if even you can’t see this,,, we are in deep shit!
Law is discovered, rules are made. Yes, codifying Law as Maybury’s two rules (my quote on Law is from a book called “Whatever Happened to Justice” by Richard J Maybury. I believe this to be one of three books that should be required reading) is simply creating a rule(s). This is where the Founders left US wanting. They knew of Law and a very few of them actually saw the vision of America as the Ideal rather than the political movement that actually transpired. They called it “the law” (9th Amendment) or the Common Law. Whatever. What is missing is that too many think that Law and decency are different idea’s.
What you say in this article and other works is most often true. However, until enough people realize that the decency of not harming others or messing with their stuff (do not encroach on other persons or their property) and honoring one’s word (do all you have agreed to do) can be codified as a baseline “law” that can be taught to everyone from the age of two to the mental agility of Forrest Gump, that is over and above government, religion, corporations, business, groups, clubs, and the Individual. Nothing can really be done other than lament the loss of humanity.
In this case, starting over with another government agency just means that the names on the placards at the table of deceit will have to be changed. Nothing else.

I have known this for a number of years. What I want to know is why nobody cares? It’s not only the pharmaceutical companies but companies like Cargill given free reign to poison the food supply, you can’t hardly find anything with real sugar in it and in the old days Grandma made cookies and cakes with sugar and Metabolic syndrom did not exist. High fructose cornsyrup is a chemical produced by Cargill and it has been proven to cause metabolic syndrome and cancer and a myriad of other diseases. But the FDA has also allowed the food supply to be poisoned and companies to call poison an all natural ingredient. Why does Nobody care?
the fda should have a lawsuit filed against them for making money over chemicals like aspartame and high fructose corn syrup which has proven to cause type 2 diabetes and heart disease and cancer and death. There are a lot of chemicals they put into our food supply and it has made us obese and fatigue. While the FDA makes all its money by lying to us about all the chemicals they put into our food supply and we should have the right to say what we want and don’t want in out food supply. The FDA doesn’t care about us they only care about whats in their wallet and how much they make poisoning us with ingredients like high fructose corn syrup.
