Yes, Bill Clinton ASKED Russia to interfere in a US presidential election

by Jon Rappoport

July 18, 2017

Press outlets are now reminding us that President Bill Clinton interfered in the 1996 Russia election that brought Boris Yeltsin to power for a second term.

This is by way of saying, “Well, if Putin helped Trump win the 2017 election, so what? The US did the same thing in Russia.”

That’s an interesting but not terribly strong argument. However, there is another piece to the 1996 Clinton op, and it is explosive and quite relevant.

Let’s start here, with the 1996 leak of a document detailing a meeting between Bill Clinton and Boris Yeltsin. Sean Guillory, writing at jacobinmag.com, states:

“According to a White House memo leaked to the Washington Times in March 1996, Clinton and Yeltsin had agreed to support each other in their respective reelection bids.”

We are talking about mutual interference. President Clinton helps President Yeltsin win, and President Yeltsin helps President Clinton win.

Bill Clinton asked the president of Russia to interfere in a US presidential election.

Digest that.

The Washington Post (2/26/96) reports on “…a memo written by Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott, according to White House press secretary Michael McCurry. It [the memo] recounted talks between Clinton and Yeltsin earlier this month when both leaders attended an anti-terrorism summit in Egypt.”

“The memo, as quoted in the [Washington] Times, said Clinton pledged to work with Yeltsin to maintain ‘positive’ relations with the United States as both men seek reelection this year. One way to do this, the memo quoted Clinton as saying, is for Yeltsin to stop restricting poultry imports. Clinton said ‘this is a big issue, especially since 40 percent of U.S. poultry is produced in Arkansas,’ the memo said.”

We had a US president, Bill Clinton, specifying HOW the Russian president could help him win a second term as US president.

Let that sink in.

The Associated Press reports, on March 28, 1996: “Citing a classified memo, the Washington Times reported yesterday that Clinton had promised Yeltsin to back his re-election bid by formulating “positive” policies toward Russia…On a matter important to his political supporters in Arkansas, Clinton asked Yeltsin to stop restricting poultry imports. ‘This is a big issue, especially since 40 percent of U.S. poultry is produced in Arkansas,’ Clinton said, according to the memo…On Monday, Vice President Al Gore announced Russia was lifting the ban, which was imposed because of the suspicion that U.S. chickens are not inspected sufficiently for salmonella, which causes illness.”

Clinton promises to back Yeltsin in his effort to win the presidency of Russia.

In return, BECAUSE IT IS IMPORTANT TO CLINTON’S POLITICAL SUPPORTERS, Clinton asks Yeltsin to lift Russia’s ban on importing chickens, particularly since 40% of US poultry is produced in Arkansas, Clinton’s home state. And lo and behold, Yeltsin does comply with Clinton’s request for help in winning the 1996 US presidential election. Yeltsin lifts the ban on importing US poultry.

Both president agree to interfere in each other’s election.

And it gets worse. The major chicken producer in Arkansas is Tyson. The Fiscal Times reports, on 2/2/16: “…consider a largely forgotten financial scandal that directly involved Hillary Clinton during 1978 and 1979.”

“Under the guidance of an attorney representing Tyson Foods, Hillary Clinton made a $98,540 profit from a $1,000 initial investment in less than one year trading commodity futures. While $98,540 may not seem like much money relative to the Clinton family’s wealth today, it exceeded Bill and Hillary’s combined annual income at the time.”

“…Clinton’s initial trading also had a serious irregularity…her $1,000 initial investment was well below the $12,000 deposit required by the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for the first trades she executed. So not only did Hillary make an extraordinary profit for a novice investor, she did so without following the rules applied to less well-connected traders.”

There is much more to say about the relationship between Tyson Chicken and the Clintons, but we’ll leave it there for now.

So there is a precedent of Russia interfering in a US presidential election (by stark invitation)—and nothing happened to the US president, Bill Clinton, who asked for the interference. Nothing.

Clinton was, of course, upset when the memo of his meeting with Yeltsin was leaked. But here is how he spun his objection:

Washington Post, 2/28/96: “[Clinton Press Secretary] McCurry said Clinton and [National Security Advisor] Lake considered the leak to be far more sensitive than the typical anonymous disclosure that is commonplace in Washington journalism. ‘The president feels like he ought to be able to sit down with the president of Russia and have a private conversation,’ McCurry said.”

Clinton and Yeltsin agreeing to interfere in each other’s presidential election was ignored, as if it were of no concern. The big issue was the leak of the memo. Private and highly felonious deals between two superpower chiefs of state? No problem.

To repeat: this 1996 memo-scandal of enormous proportions didn’t make a dent in Bill Clinton’s second term in office. After a brief press blast, and a round of “I’m shocked” within the Beltway, the roar died and vanished.

If a comparable memo were unearthed from the Trump team today, impeachment proceedings will begin in a matter of hours, and the press would be booking seats for the firing squad.

Soros-paid street soldiers would lift Barack Obamas up on their shoulders, break down barriers at the White House, and carry him into the Oval Office.

We need to revisit the old saying, “It’s not the conspiracy (that hurts a political criminal), it’s the cover-up (of the crime).”

There needs to be an addendum. “It’s not the conspiracy, it’s the coverage.” Meaning press coverage.

If a politician commits a major crime and the press coverage dies out, the politician gets away with it. If the press keeps hounding the politician endlessly, he doesn’t get away with it—even if there is no solid proof he committed a crime in the first place.

Probably where they got the idea from for tarring Trump. The Clinton/Democrat M.O. seems to be, whatever we’re guilty of, we accuse the opposition of doing.

    • Theodore says:

      Like.

    • truth1 says:

Yes, that is what is going on. Each side takes their turn in office and each side takes turn blaming the other for what both always do. Let me illustrate. candidate Dem says I am going to do many great things, Here are my top ten goals . . .

Into his term, Dem complains that congress is blocking his efforts and the court disrupted him and unforeseen attacks from terrorists, and trouble with foreign diplomats mad his term a challenge.

Now candidate GOP gets into office, and its the same old song and dance as Dem. Congress is interfereing and won’t help. The economy is bad cause of Dem and he made Obama Care and left me with a mess to clean up. Dem had used that trick, too, Blaming Bush. Everyone does it. When Trump is done, he will be to blame for nothing. He did everything he could. It was the other side, those Democrats (leftists really).

This allows a candidate to make all kinds of promises and deliver none of them. Its always someone else’s fault. This is why I predicted that no matter who get elected, the same would go into action. It did not matter if it was Hillary or Trump. Its never mattered.

And no one ever learns or gets wide to it. So we are to blame for being exceptionally stupid. That’s were I point the finger.

        Except for President Trump.

He has almost accomplished 50% of what he said he would do.

So far, here are his accomplishments.

        • Thank you kindly for this concise data!

        • I have given up on you completely FQ, your obsessed completely and totally. I can only think this is a rare illness of some…

But what has Trump really accomplished besides, raising bloated, military and Pentagon budgets, supplying head-choppers with the largest arms deal package in American history; all with the latest tech in armaments. Put a freeze on government hiring. Hasn’t added ‘One’, I will say that again…One single new job to the American economy. Lots of service industry enslavement to below minimum wage, but jobs…real jobs. Nada, zilch, zero…in fact he has added to the jobless.

As a matter of fact people are poorer since Trump took office. In the words of Paul Craig Roberts:

“As I have emphasized for a decade or two, the US is devolving into a third world workforce where the only employment available is in lowly paid domestic service jobs that cannot be offshored and that do not pay enough to provide an independent existence. This is why 50% of 25-year olds live at home with their parents and why there are more Americans aged 24-34 living with parents than living independently.”

“It is an extraordinary thing that although the US government itself reports that if even a small part of discouraged workers are counted as unemployed the unemployment rate is 8.6%, the presstitute financial media, a collection of professional liars, still reports, in the face of the government’s admission, that the unemployment rate as 4.4%.”

          http://www.globalresearch.ca/it-took-obama-more-than-two-years-to-kill-this-many-civilians-it-took-trump-less-than-six-months/5600160

Trump has escalated the number of civilians deaths in Syria and Iraq. Above what was Obamas. he is killing babies! And old people, and children.

Poppies are still guarded by American soldiers in Afghanistan, and there is still no health care for Americans.

He has lined his administration with Wall Street, Bankers and other weird-looking swamp dwellers.

“Trump calls Chelsea Manning an “ungrateful traitor.”

          Trump is pro-NATO.

Trump in the end is a liar and a bully. A self-aggrandizing sock puppet, who plays on Titter, and is not mature enough to be the POTUS, who kisses the rather large ass of the deep state, and lick their genitals lovingly. He is cowardly and obsessive-compulsive self-promoter. A narcist of the extreme variety.

A list of his Executive orders…

amongst all this bullshit you will find nothing that aids or helps the life of the average American. All-in-all, it seems George Soros has created more jobs in America, the paid protesters at least are get paid in the streets.

TRUMP IS FOR DONALD TRUMP ONLY.

It’s too bad we don’t just adhere to the Ten Commandments and incarcerate those who break them.

            “Thou shall not kill.”
“Thou shall not steal.” It’s easy to see all the government/corporate plunder.
:”Thou shall not commit adultery”, which is now much more than sleeping with someone other than your own mate, it means adultering the natural world, like putting poisons like vaccines into our children, and erecting nuclear plants and putting glyphosate on plants we eat, and using GMOs at all.

We wouldn’t have many left in government/military/corporations if we did.

  2. Greg C. says:

The whole idea of “interference” in elections is ludicrous. As if foreign countries have no political influence. Right. Just another one of those belief systems being floated around, so many being created for us that if they were logs you could walk across Lake Tahoe on them. Imagine living one day without your thoughts being contaminated with this disinfo, even to argue against it. Because when you argue against this sort of thing, you end up adopting it hypothetically, and then it sticks.

  3. Jennifer says:

Ah, the Clintons. Seem to remember that besides agreeing to support each others elections, that Clinton also gave his go ahead for Russia to invade Chechnya if Russia would take Tysons chickens. We had also thought they, Europe and Russia, didn’t want our chickens because of the hormones they used to raise the chickens, but it could be the overall nastiness of the chickens in general. Even the growers sued Tyson for putting Roxarzone in the feed, which has arsenic in it, and which caused the chickens to eat more and put on weight. Think the arsenic was estrogenic.

We were living in Arkansas at the time and when a friend went to his doc to see why he was gaining weight and putting on breasts the doctor asked him if he was eating the local chicken. His wife worked for Tyson and she was always bringing it home to help them offset the costs of his schooling. It was cheaper for them. The doctor told him that eating a Tyson chicken was like taking an estrogen pill.

It was also Clinton who as governor of Arkansas gave financial aid to several of his cronies to get their businesses off the ground and who later were also involved in the drug trade. Never saw any of that in the local papers.

    • INGAORAMA says:

Now I understand why they claimed chicken flu and wanted to kill off all roaming free chickens in Asia and got up a Tyson chicken factory in Philippines…

      • paul Anderson says:

I’m pretty certain the Avian Flu is a real virus and in ’97 the Chinese were inoculating their flocks in order to try to prevent its spread.

  4. truth1 says:

Has anyone ever noticed that US presidents always cozy up to British leaders. How many times have both been of use to each other in their respective nations. All nations have some amount of influence and work together.

Note that Abraham Lincoln, who is often portrayed with halo over his head, invited the Russian Tsar’s navy over to the US to lend a hand, because the UK and France would going to launch naval attacks on the north and divide the country. So the navy was sent to NYC and San Fran. And that saved the Union, whether that mattered or not.

All these squabbles are for drama to make good TV and confuse the masses of idiots. None of them have any validity but are there to create smoke screen and divert attention to congress selling the nation out, on both sides. There is really only party in the US. The NWO.

  5. http://www.blacklistednews.com/Why_Middle_America_Doesn%27t_Care_About_The_Trump_Jr._Narrative%3A_Reuters_Explains/59681/0/38/38/Y/M.html

For almost a full year now the New York Times, Washington Post, MSNBC and CNN, among others, have teamed up to bring us one Russian collusion story after another. Yet, after all of it, even including the New York Times’ most recent Trump Jr. ‘bombshell’, they are still no closer to actually presenting any tangible evidence that anyone within the Trump administration actually colluded with the Russian government and/or otherwise committed any actual crimes of any type throughout the 2016 campaign.

And while we suspect that these media outlets somehow feel it is their duty to advance the cause of ‘The Resistance’ at all costs, even if it means destroying their own journalistic integrity from time to time with a few fake news reports, we get the feeling that this crusade could end up backfiring ‘bigly’ with the folks of middle America.

As Reuters points out today, absent any tangible evidence to the contrary, the media’s breathless Russian coverage has done little to turn the pro-Trump sections of middle America against the President…if anything, it has only served to bolster their support of the President and further erode their confidence in the media.

    • The Trump/Russian connection is a pych-op to keep you distracted, from what really is going on. If the media really had any tooth…

There is a growing mistrust of Trump.

Why hasn’t Trump put Hillary in jail? She is a criminal. Why did he donate $100,000 to the Clinton foundation, when we know it is was pay to play. was he paying to play.

  6. paul Anderson says:

I’m not sure I follow this:
“Bill Clinton asked the president of Russia to interfere in a US Presidential Election” by requesting that Yeltsin rescind a ban on the import of U.S. poultry?
It seems one helluva of a stretch to go from there to – “Both presidents agree to interfere in each other’s election.” What did Clinton give up? Where is the Quid Pro Quo?
I’m willing to bet there have been a number of Presidents who, say, in talks with China, would ask that the Chinese find a way to import more Fords and Buicks, that seems fairly normal, even expected.
If this conversations was somehow in close proximity to an election would it be interference? Not by a long shot.
The following, however, is a completely “different ball of wax.”

Thank you Jon for leaving no stone unturned in investigating the facts in this situation. As you said, “It’s not the conspiracy it’s the coverage. ” Lack of coverage of a crime allows the perpetrator to go free and conversely twisting the facts to make it appear that there has been a crime when there hasn’t been causes an innocent individual to appear guilty.
