The twits at Twitter threaten to ban Donald Trump

Twitter has released a statement about Donald Trump. The Independent (UK) reports:

“The social network has said that if the President-elect breaks its rules with his tweets then they will shut down the account…

“Twitter said that if Mr Trump explicitly makes threats or breaks the site’s rules in other ways, then it will ban him from using the service.

“’The Twitter Rules prohibit violent threats, harassment, hateful conduct, and multiple account abuse, and we will take action on accounts violating those policies,’ a Twitter spokesperson told Slate.

“Pressed on whether that meant that it would ban Mr Trump for expressing such views, the company said that those rules apply to all accounts without exception, including for those that are verified.”

What recent Trump tweets could Twitter be referring to? Most likely these:

“Isis is taking credit for the terrible stabbing attack at Ohio State University, by a Somali refugee who should not have been in our country.”

“Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag—if they do, there must be consequences—perhaps loss of citizenship or a year in jail!”

Exit From the Matrix

Regardless of what anyone thinks about the content of these tweets, the question is free speech. Does the President-elect have that right? Certainly, he does. Of course, Twitter is a company, so they can set their own standards. They can claim any statement is out of bounds and will be censored. They can claim, “If you tweet about cats we will ban you.” Fine.

In that case, Trump can take his messages to another company.

Twitter can try to do “virtue signaling” and “social justice” to their heart’s content. In terms of their business, they’ll pay whatever consequences come their way; e.g., mass exodus of users.

In cultural terms, Twitter is behaving like a nasty little child. Instead of openly stating their own fear and hatred of a President-elect, they opt to hide behind their invented version of “hate-speech.”

They’re “triggered” and they need a “safe space,” and they want to provide the same for everyone in the world, as a form of protection.

Thank you, but no. We can handle a very wide range of opinion without folding up.

To the people of Twitter, I suggest they retreat to a kindergarten replete with Play-Doh and tissues for tears, and coloring books, with a diaper delivery service on call.

I’m sure the Democratic National Committee will send people with hot chocolate and candy canes.

Actually the same could be said about Trump that you said about Twitter

Doesn’t seem you are looking very hard for what
    your hero has said that
might be, at the very least, questionable – and even
    disruptive in terms of its
potential for setting off dangerous, mass
    reactions.
It seems ti me the people at Titter are courageous to
take a chance in dealing with
    an incendiary, powerful
    loose cannon,
I have avoided being part of
any and all social media –
    but might consider Twitter
though those sort of environment sound to me
like they might be a bit
    pack animal in orientation.

Wake up and smell the coffee. You’re defending idiots.

    • Shawn says:

First of all double check your spell check second I think twitter ought to censor you or should I call it “titter” Second who says Trump is his hero? Just because Jon agrees with what Trump in many ways. That doesn’t make a person a “hero”.

    • Greg C. says:

You basically qualified all of your opening points into oblivion. “At the very least” (I’m just saying …), “questionable” (huh?),”disruptive” (hey, can you keep it down in here, I’m trying to study!), “potential” (but not actual) mass “reactions” (another neutral word that signifies nothing).

    • Arisen Ryan says:

Trump cannot force anybody to react in any way based on something as benign as a “tweet”. Are the US citizenry a bunch of automatons or do they have personal agency? Trump is not Daddy and the people are not babies. Time to grow up and stop letting “mean words” send you into hysterics.

  3. The alternative to Twitter is gab.ai

    It allows free speech there.

    • victoryintruth says:

I attempted to register but they’re apparently not quite ready to throw their doors wide open. They get my vote.

      • nanabaakan says:

It seems they have a very long list, gave me a 3 week window. How long before they are muscled into complying.

      • It took them about 2 days to get me approved. They are still in beta, last I checked, but people are flocking there daily. Give them a little time. They’ll get to you.

  4. Oliver K. Manuel says:

Twitter “shot itself in the foot” by exposing arrogant abuse of power by the press.

  5. Koolz says:

Prepare yourself Zionist Organizations on the net, Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, reddit, others.
Because when Trump is President you will see a new bill passed that will rein you in!

  6. Jeremiah says:

If I had a social media site, I would approach Trump to use it. Instant success.

  7. victoryintruth says:

I dumped Twitter. I do not support censorship, communists nor the rest of the liars that are attempting to run everything. I will be a part of Gab when it’s ready. To he** with Twitter.

  8. MA in MO says:

Tayka Heik, Twitter is not the only one censoring data. FB is also censoring data as well as other social media blogs. I no longer receive any feed back on blogs that I have used to hold on-line conversations. Hopefully some one comes up with an alternative.

  9. Threatening The President of the United States? The Head Twits better learn to
    speak Chinese. Quickly.

  10. From Québec says:

They still don’t get it. And I guess they will never learn.

MSM lost almost all of their listeners, and credibility since they went after Trump.
The more they criticized him, the more he got ahead.. and won in a landslide..

The same thing will happen with Twiter.
Someone else will start another social media and all the twitters will join that new social media..

How stupid can they be? I guess you cannot fix stupid.

  11. Greg C. says:

Twitter has a rule against “hateful conduct” – translation, “words that upset some people.” Judging by the (probably) millions of senseless people already triggered by Trump’s words, they are either getting ready to ban him any day now, or they just like the feeling of being a gnat buzzing around an eagle. Has Twitter started making any actual profits yet?

  12. nanabaakan says:

The social media outlets are taking this Big Brother thing too far. I don’t see anything wrong with the tweets you mentioned here.
It’s funny how twitter had no problem filling the bill when it came to color revolurions. Getting folks out into the streets to protest in Egypt and Libya and elsewhere where folks took to twitter to get the word out.
How calm and moderate could they have been in order to get folks pumped up to get out into the streets?
Did they censor the accounts of the leaders of these countries?
It’s such a disgusting double standard and blatant hypocrisy. But like you said, it’s their business so we just gotta find something else.

  13. Kurt says:

The death knell is tolling at Twitter. Stock price is plummeting, subscribers are bailing. Twitter doesn’t seem to grasp the concept of free speech. Facebook is next.

  14. Golem-kicker says:

There IS another possibility concerning the advent of this latest outrage concerning Twitter’s “Trump censorship” — seeing as President elect Trump has ALREADY RENEGED on several of his “platform promises”, he could very well stand to BENEFIT by being “incommunicado”. In other words, he himself could very well have ENCOURAGED the “ban” CLANDESTINELY. How would any of us know for certain? How about YOU, Mr. Rappaport — don’t you suppose that Trump would rather make his reduced, if not eliminated, availability on “social media” appear to be on account of a THIRD PARTY’s decision? He has a public name AND face, but WHO exactly are Mr. or Mrs. “Twitter”? I suspect that the “costume party” will be swinging into HIGH GEAR come Inauguration Day…. http://alsetalokin.tumblr.com/post/153657235676/all-us-presidents-are-sworn-in-under-the-star

    • arcadia11 says:

that thought has crossed my mind, gk. twitter does not care who the president is. they are surely just following their script
in this incomparably bizarre and not over yet fully-staged deception game. it is not even certain that the man will be inaugurated. there’s somethin happening here…..

  15. Larry says:

All the more reason for Trump to take his message DIRECTLY to the people via his own (mirrored) website.

He could upload messages from anywhere, at anytime.

We don’t need mainstream media “mediating”, analyzing, or cleverly editorializing *anything* the President has to say….

    We never did.

  16. This line of thinking can be expanded much wider, Jon.

Inadvertently (I think), you have hit on the apex of ALL problems.

The summary paragraph of my soon-to-be-released (Exopolitician) “The Satanist, Materialist, Atheist Connection”:

“In conclusion, it would be remiss of me not to discuss the most important sentence I have ever issued. If “God” had wanted to exist “in the flesh” he would have become an unrestricted being, capable of anything with unlimited potential. Therefore, as matter and spirituality are aspects of “anything”, if matter is “evil”, God is evil too. Everything labelled good along with everything labelled evil are parts of the exact same God. There is one simple term that encapsulates the ambitions of Satanists, materialist and atheists. “Accountancy” presupposes utopian order. Control agents can measure with precision, purge that which they deem is unnecessary or unwelcome. Accountancy is faith free. It assumes linear existence. It is devoid of spirituality. For the purists, the mind is but a figment of cerebral function; a mirage to be discombobulated by clairsentients. Per identical authority, childhood can be dictated. If those in power decide maturity begins and childhood ends precisely at the thirtieth year of individual life, then so be it. That is why “childhood” is either “the powers” great strength or the Achilles’ heel that usurps the usurpers, but none dare contemplate it and that is why humanity is destined for absolute satanic authoritarianism.”
