Canada, welcome to the US-style Surveillance State

Obama likes to say, “We’re all in this together.” Well, our 2 populations are now together as targets of spying

The notorious Bill C-51 to expand spying on citizens in Canada has passed the House of Commons, by a vote of 183-96. It now moves to the Senate, where passage seems inevitable.

A few comments:

It’s likely that much of this “expanded spying” is already taking place in Canada. Making it law protects the spying agencies from accusations and recriminations.

Here is how a law like C-51 will operate as time passes: every federal agency in Canada with a taste for meddling (in other words, every single bureaucratic agency) will horn in on the action, using the justification of “national security.”

Every agency will hop on the bandwagon, because “national security” justifies their budgets and makes them seem more important.

Concurrently, more citizens, activists, and groups will be labeled “potential threats.”

Interested in natural health? Want to live off the grid? Want to protest against politically correct free-speech restrictions? Want to expose the dangers of genetically engineered food? Are you a home schooler? Do you speak out against vaccines?

There is a federal agency you’re impinging on, and that agency will be interested in you and what you’re writing, saying, and doing.

That agency will cook up a new and vague definition of “potential threat” in order to include you.

That’s how the game works.

What starts out as a “carefully crafted law, designed to protect the nation against real terrorism, balancing security against privacy concerns,” will grow new branches.

Here are a few features of the present version of Bill C-51:

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) will no longer simply collect information and turn it over to law-enforcement agencies. CSIS will be able to take direct action against citizens.

For example, it can detain private citizens on grounds of “suspicion” for seven days.

Federal agencies can more easily share information (e.g., medical records, surveillance reports) on private citizens.

The government can, without notice, stop private citizens from traveling.

Even jokes about terrorism can be viewed as utterances carrying hostile intent toward the State.

Websites that link to other sites that contain information which can be construed as a threat to national security can be cancelled, deleted, removed.

And all this is just for starters. Once federal agencies get their hands on C-51, they will frame thousands of pages of regulations which spell out how they will enforce the law.

These regulations always give the agencies more work to do—in this case, more spying, more analysis of data on citizens, more sharing of data, more defining and parsing what constitutes a “threat.”

The overall rationale behind C-51 is identical to that of the US Patriot Act and the programs of the US National Security Agency: collect as much information as possible on everybody all the time—and then sort it out and decide what is actionable.

However, this is a ruse. As Snowden and others have pointed out, accumulating so many tons of data makes it harder, not easier, to ID real and true terror threats. The system becomes clogged, overloaded, unworkable.

You could call this method wrong-headed, but you would miss the point. Spying on everybody is a conscious choice, and its motive has nothing to do with preventing terrorism.

If it did, a better and more selective approach could be devised in a matter of months. No, this program is built to track, tag, observe, catalog, and analyze the entire population, as a giant step forward to greater control of the citizenry.

From above.

In the eyes of the State, freedom is the enemy.

It always was, and it always will be.

The Matrix Revealed

As soon as severely limited central government becomes a thing of the past (which is usually about five minutes after that government is formed in founding documents), the State focuses on its own survival, expansion, and power.

What does the State have to work with? What is the raw material it grinds up for energy?

People. Citizens. The population.

To the State, “power” means “power over,” “power against.”

Pretending otherwise is extreme folly.

Sprinkle in a motley collection of incompetents, outright crooks, dupes, true believers, power-hungry losers, and outright psychopaths, and you have a broad syndicate of organized crime, under the flying banner of the law. Called the government.

The modern up-to-date version of this lunacy involves technology contractors and bureaucrats, who are dying to utilize their latest tricks and systems for the purpose of spying on everything that moves.

And thus you get Bill C-51.

Welcome to the show, Canada.

No one will be able to say you’re lagging behind America.

That Bill C-51 is an outrage. I think the present government won’t be in POWER after the next election. We tend to very mad at times like these. Makes for a very interesting election. ( A bit like a prize fight)

    • bob klinck says:

Even if the majority-party Conservatives lose the next election, the opposition Liberals, while voicing “concerns” about Bill C-51, also voted in favor of it! So the government’s being ousted by an outraged electorate is unlikely to change a thing as far as this legislation is concerned.

    • bob klinck says:

One has to wonder why Bill C-51 has had to be foisted on the Canadian society. After all, in the Harkat case the Supreme Court of Canada accepted the admittedly deliberate destruction of surveillance tapes by CSIS and the submission of summaries of their content (not even purported transcripts) as evidence leading to conviction. Whereas tampering with evidence once was regarded as a serious delict, now it is approved by the highest court in the land. When they have the ability to do this, what other powers does CSIS need? Lavrentiy Beria’s maxim–“Show me the man and I’ll show you the crime”– is now apparently in force in Canada.

I feel safer already! Terrorism is a huge threat here in Quebec, Canada. Not as much as being crushed to death by an overpass, but it’s always nice to reach a good balance between security and liberties once again There must be a difference between being murdered by a terrorist and being murdered by the shaky hands of an old plumber, because they don’t protect us from all murderers, but only from a small group of murderers.

  3. As a 100% Canadian moose smoocher, I say thanks for the news Jon, I haven’t read much on this, but I aim to.
The bastard (his royal highesnes Stephen Harper) stole $ 57,000,000,000 from the Canadian public Unemployment Insurance Fund without a scuffle, and he sold the Canadian wheat board to the Saudis. And kept that money too…it belonged to Canadian farmers.
Guess I will be getting a tranquilizer dart in the ass and a nice heavy canvas bathrobe. That fits on backwards and ties at the back…and a room without a view, in the basement of a old mental institution in Winnipeg.

A guy is walking past a big wooden fence at the Winnipeg Insane Asylum and he hears all the residents inside chanting, “Thirteen! Thirteen! Thirteen! Quite curious about this, he finds a hole in the fence, and looks in. Someone inside pokes him in the eye. Then everyone inside the asylum starts chanting, “Fourteen! Fourteen! Fourteen!

I didn’t know about what you’ve just mentioned about Harper “that he stole $ 57,000,000,000 from the Canadian public Unemployment Insurance Fund without a scuffle, and he sold the Canadian wheat board to the Saudis. And kept that money too…it belonged to Canadian farmers.”.

      WOW! What a crook!

I do not follow much of Canadian politics. I prefer following USA politics because it is a preview of whatever will happen in Canada in the future, since we always end-up following whatever they do.
So I’m always one step ahead.

Hahaha! You’ve nailed it again. Nobody else could have resumed it better!

“Welcome to the show, Canada” (Jon)

I thought our Conservative Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, was the best we ever had here in Canada.. He does not believe in the Climate Change hoax, he lowered our taxes, he abolished our long gun registry and did not sign the International Arm treaty….etc..

But recently, we had two or three, terrorist events in our country (probably False Flags from your CIA), and Harper seems to believe that those events were true… how dumb of him! Plus, he let Obama convinced him to go fight in Iraq and to join the forces in Ukraine against Russia. WTF!

Has our prime Minister gone cuckoo or what? I hope not. Is he so naïve and misinformed? If he keeps playing the American’s tyranny game, he will lose my next vote for sure in the coming election in September of this year.

By the way, I’m probably the only one in Québec who voted for him. Québec is so desperately socialist…lol!

Will I be the one condemned with the obligation to introduce our Prime Minister to the Alex Jones Show and to your blog, Jon? The only way he will get some real hard cold facts?

    • @Q
Have you watched Alberta politics . Alberta has been a strong conservative base in the west.
They have been totally shut out the recent provincials in the vote last week, and the NDP have the majority government.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the conservative are out.
Now we have Harper making it a crime to say anything about Israel.
I guess I better not say anything about the Holocaust hoax.

      • From Québec says:

I don’t know if the Holocaust was a hoax or not. I tend to believe it was true.
I know many old Jews here in Québec that had some of their family killed in the Holocaust. Many things are hoaxes, but not every event is a hoax.

I am not saying that Jews did’nt die during the second world. Or that they did’nt suffer under the atrocities commited by the German. Those are well documented.
What I am saying is that many ‘People” died.
Jews, Catholics, Muslims, artists, activists, gypsies, homsexuals, the retarded, crippled, born with birth defects, mentally ill, individuals speaking out, the underground and anyone opposed to the cruelty and dictatorship of the Nazis and their corporate cronnies…the list goes on and on. If you were not of Arayan Stock, blue eyed and blonde hair, well you were suspected of something and would be exterminated.
A lot of people died in Germany. People!

What I am saying is the number, six million Jews, has been propagandized and used for everything from gathering vast amounts of money for Zionism, to petitioning the League of Nations and the follow up United Nations to gain a foothold in Palestine, and North America, since before the turn of the century. These numbers have used against other nations. This is exploitation of misery for more misery.
          This is a Zionist move.
This idea of a Palestine has been in the works for a long time.
The unfortunate situation of the death camps opened up an opportunity to drive home the Zionist idealism and claim on Palestine. That palestine is the ancient homeland of the Jews and that it must rightly be given back.
Zionism has great political, financial, and lobbying power in the United States and Canada. So much so that our Prime Minister, Heir Harper has past laws that we cannot speak out against Israel and recent atrocities committed on the Palestinians. So we must sit back and watch them exterminate Palestinians.
The Holocaust and six million dead Jews stops us from looking at the Jewish/Palestinian situation with more neutral eyes. We have a slanted view of history, and a Jewish persecution and the real truth.
Israel and the Zionists are war criminals. Bent on starting a world war three. They are armed with nuclears and wish to use them on Iran and anyone else who opposes teir apartheid.

Some reading material…there than just this. You must research it.

    The Clinton Scam

The article linked below is a good, concise summary of how the Clinton Foundation works as a tax free international money laundering scheme. It will probably eventually prove to be the largest political criminal enterprise in US history.

This is a textbook case on how you hide foreign money sent to you and repackage it to be used for your own purposes. All tax free. Here’s how it works:

    1. You create a separate foreign “charity”. In this case one in Canada.

    2. Foreign oligarchs and governments, many sworn enemies of the United States, then donate to this Canadian charity. In this case, over 1,000 did, contributing mega millions. I’m sure they did this out of the goodness of their hearts, and expected nothing in return. (Imagine Putin’s buddies waking up one morning and just deciding to send untold millions to a Canadian charity).

    3. The Canadian charity then bundles these separate donations and makes a massive donation to the Clinton Foundation.

    4. The Clinton Foundation and the cooperating Canadian charity claim Canadian law prohibits the identification of individual donors. (As the article indicates. this is not true.)

    5. The Clinton Foundation then “spends” some of this money for legitimate good works programs. Unfortunately, experts believe this is on the order of 10%. Much of the balance goes to enrich the Clinton’s, pay salaries to untold numbers of hangers on, and fund lavish travel, etc. Again, virtually all tax free, which means you and I are subsidizing it.

    6. The Clinton Foundation, with access to the world’s best accountants, somehow fails to report much of this on their tax filings. They discover these “clerical errors” and begin the process of re-filing 5 years of tax returns.

    7. Net result – foreign money, much of it from enemies of the US, goes into the Clinton’s pockets tax free and untraceable back to the original donor. This is the textbook definition of money laundering.

The linkage between these foreign donations, and favors done by the Clintons (including Hillary as Secretary of State) will be the subject of a future note from your humble correspondent. This will extend money laundering into bribery and treason.

Oh, by the way, the Canadian “charity” includes as a principal one Frank Giustra. Google him. He is the guy who was central to the formation of Uranium One, the Canadian company that somehow acquired massive US uranium interests and then sold them to an organization controlled by Russia and Putin. This transaction required US State Department approval, and guess who was Secretary of State when the approval was granted. Nothing to see here. And much of this uranium will eventually be sold to Iran, undoubtedly for peaceful purposes as Obama will of course never let Iran build a bomb.

As an aside, imagine how former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell feels. That poor schlub is in jail because he and his wife took $165,000 in gifts and loans for doing minor favors for a guy promoting a vitamin company. Not legal but not exactly putting US security at risk.

Sarcasm aside, if you’re still not persuaded this was a cleverly structured way to get unidentified foreign money to the Clintons, ask yourself this: Why did these foreign interests funnel money through a Canadian charity? Why not donate directly to the Clinton Foundation? Better yet, why not donate money directly to the people, organizations and countries in need?

This is the essence of money laundering and influence peddling. Now you know why Hillary’s destruction of 30,000 e-mails was a risk she was willing to take. One “smoking gun” e-mail would land her in jail.

Anyway, please read and weep. These grifters could someday be back in the White House.

Canadians are too busy watching hockey to care about anything other than where are the nachos and the beer. Meanwhile this pathological liar Harper is stripping away our privacy and rule of law.

I am not afraid of terrorists anyone who is are listening to the wrong people. What frightens me is the right wing extremists who are more commonly known as the P.C. party. They have systemically been robbing us blind with a attitude of we have the right to plunder everything you the people have worked for since 1867. We are the managers who keep this thing together without us you could not survive. Even though the socialist government of Norway have outperformed ten fold the right wing bunglers of Canada in managing oil revenues. They still want us to believe we need them. We don’t and more and more people are beginning to believe that. So the thug Harper brings us bill C-51 an very nasty piece of law that could only be conceived by criminal mind.

It is pretty obvious to anyone that understands the right wing (fascist) ideology that the real meat on the piece of totalitarianism is the end of free speech. I understand what you’re saying, but at the same time we have a dysfunctional voting system.

In order to win, a candidate does not need to receive a clear majority (considered 50 percent plus one) of the votes. Instead, the candidate only needs to receive a plurality majority, meaning that he/she received more votes than any other candidate in the riding district. Under the single member plurality system, a candidate can win a riding even though the majority of voters voted against him.

With only two parties, Republican and Democrat for instance, chances are good that the winning candidate will receive a clear majority of the votes (50% plus one). However, in Canada we have more than 2 parties, meaning that most of the winning candidates will receive only a plurality majority.

Forget all the districts and candidates and take a look at the overall results of the Canadian Federal election (2011).

      Conservative (39.62%)
      NPD (30.63%)
      Liberal (18.91%)
      Bloc Québécois (6.04%)
      Green (3.91%)
      Others (0.89%)

Conservative is declared the majority with only 39.62% of the votes, 60.40%, the clear majority of the population voted against Conservative. It’s even worse when you take the participation rate into account. The voter turnout for that election was 61.1%, meaning that 38.9% of the whole population did not cast a vote. With the voter turnout, the results are now…

      Did not vote (38.9%)
      Conservative (24.21%)
      NPD (18.71%)
      Liberal (11.55%)
      Bloc Québécois (3.69%)
      Green (2.39%)
      Others (0.54%)

Conclusion: Conservative is the majority with 24.21% of the votes, when more than 75% of the canadians voted against Conservative candidates or haven’t voted at all. Insane! In that case the plurality majority (38.9%) of the Canadians does not care or does not want any rulers, so the will of the majority is definitely not well represented with this broken voting system. Should we blame ourselves for that? Maybe or maybe not.

Sometimes I wonder how they can say with a straight face the government exists to serve the population. It must be difficult to say without laughing: “Canada will not be intimidated by two despicable attacks”, when he knows that both attacks were staged and the next one won’t be prevented. I’m still hearing this one: “They hate us for our freedom”. Lol. Yeah, sure! Real terrorists couldn’t hate us because we invaded and plundered their country + killed thousands of their people…for oil.

Reading a bunch of lies without laughing and keeping a straight face when telling all these absurdities is probably a good skill to have in order to be selected as puppet by globalists.

Where did they find Harper? He just appeared from nowhere and attended a Bilderberg group meeting before being elected. Many past Prime Ministers of Canada, or Prime Ministers of Quebec had links with the powerful Desmarais family which owns Power Corporation.

    For example:

    – Brian Mulroney and Paul Martin, both worked for Power Corp. before entering politics.
    – Jean Chrétien also sat on the board of a Power Corp. subsidiary.
    – Pierre Elliot Trudeau also served on Power Corp.’s international advisory board.
    – Former Premier of Quebec Daniel Johnson served as the Vice-President of Power Corp.
    – Paul Desmarais’ son André married the daughter of former prime minister Jean Chrétien
    – Brian Mulroney is the vice-chairman of Quebecor’s (P.K Peladeau) board of directors. Peladeau operates in various fields: Media, politics and energy.
    – Paul and Andre Desmarais are often called “Canada’s Rockefellers”. It makes sense, André Desmarais is himself a member of the Trilateral Commission, founded by David Rockefeller and Zbigniew Brzezinski. He’s also on the International Advisory Board of David Rockefeller’s former bank, JP Morgan Chase.
-Paul Desmarais III, is a banker with Goldman Sachs.

Soon, we might be stuck with Justin Trudeau as P.M, the son of Pierre Elliot Trudeau, the man who gave power to the private banks in 1974.

Harper doesn’t seem to have direct links with the Desmarais family, but Peter MacKay the current Minister of Justice dated Sophie Desmasais.

It’s very not complicated in Canada. During an election day you can vote for Desmarais, or Desmarais, or Desmarais, otherwise you must vote for Desmarais or stay at home..

    • From Québec says:

Very well said! You know your stuff.

Did you also know that in Québec, Pierre Karl Péladeau, who is the son of the late Pierre Péladeau, is now running for the leadership of the Parti Québécois (PQ) who is the separatist party.

Pierre Karl Péladeau has now became the owner of Quebecor Media Inc.
Can you imagined the conflict of interests? OUCH!

      • Sherlock says:

A party-leader who controls the way voters get their news, I think we can call it a blatant conflict of interests, yes. Imagine Rupert Murdoch running for the next Presidential election.

In 2013, P.K Péladeau stepped down as chief executive officer of Quebecor Inc, but a couple weeks ago he recognized he still exercises control over his media empire. Anyway he named his mentor and past Prime Minister Brian Mulroney to replace him as Chairman of Quebecor Inc. Curiously, Mulroney is an ardent federalist and P-K Peladeau is the antithesis of what the PQ has long embodied. He has consistently said his only real interest in entering politics is to make Quebec independent. Really?

There’s surely something hidden behind this whole Quebec Sovereignty thing, but what? As far as I know they want a one world government, not a new country. What are they trying to accomplish exactly? Has it something to do with our water or electricity? Because, P.K Peladeau is also the new chairman of Hydro-Québec, the province’s most important enterprise.

We always hear about how only few companies can control all the media in the U.S, but our situation is very similar. Quebecor and Power Corp., alone own a huge part of our media.

Newspapers : La Presse, Le Soleil, Le Journal de Québec, Le Journal de Montreal, Le Droit, La Tribune, Le Quotidien, The Toronto Sun, Daily-Herald-Tribune, etc.

Television channels: TVA, LCN, Canal Indigo, Mystery, Canal Évasion, etc.

Radio stations: CFTM (Montréal), CFCM (Québec), CHLT (Sherbrooke), etc.

        Employment website: Workopolis and Jobboom.

They own probably every single magazines you can think of : 7 jours, Lundi, TV Hebdo, Dernière Heure, Echos Vedettes, Clin d’oeil, Votre Maison, Décoration chez-soi, Ma Cuisine, Tout Simplement Clodine, Rénovation Bricolage, Coté Jardins, Chez Soi, Star inc., Star Systeme, Moi & Cie, Les Idées René-Dépot, etc.

They also own various other things: Videotron, Le Super Club Vidéotron, Canoe, Archambault Group, Jumbo Entertainment, Distribution Select (books, CDs, etc.), Guy Cloutier Communications, etc.

I did not know that Pierre Karl Peladeau was the new chairman of Hydro Québec. Oh boy! No wonder we are now bombarded with their imposed criminal Smart Meters spying on us and frying our brains.
