Ben Swann: feds hold patent on pot as medicine, but still outlaw it
by Jon Rappoport
April 20, 2015
Everybody knows the US federal government still officially considers marijuana an illegal drug.
But as Ben Swann (twitter) reports, the government also holds a patent on it as a medicine.
(“Feds Say Cannabis Is Not Medicine While Holding The Patent on Cannabis as Medicine”).
That’s right.
The patent # is 6,630,507 (“Cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants”). The holder of the patent is “The US government as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services [a cabinet post under the President].”
Quoting from the patent:
“Cannabinoids have been found to have antioxidant properties, unrelated to NMDA receptor antagonism. This new found property makes cannabinoids useful in the treatment and prophylaxis of wide variety of oxidation associated diseases, such as ischemic, age-related, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia. Nonpsychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidoil, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention…”
My, my.
So let’s see. A) Claim marijuana is a very useful medicine, but b) reserve the right to arrest people who use it as a treatment.
That makes perfect sense when you’re dealing with government.
It also, of course, makes perfect sense when government partners, aka pharmaceutical companies, are busy developing their, ahem, “highly purified, completely reliable, extensively tested, absolutely safe,” and very profitable versions of marijuana as medicine.
Or when those companies are still clinging to the notion that marijuana can somehow be suppressed, because they realize its medicinal uses will pre-empt many of their best-selling, quite toxic drugs, which cure nothing but instead create new symptoms that “require more drugs.”
(Re marijuana oil [note: there are different types], I have heard several stories of remarkable recoveries from Crohn’s disease and prostate cancer.)
What to look out for: pharmaceutical companies will eventually try to market some version of marijuana as a drug, to be used as “an adjunct” with their own toxic compounds (e.g., chemotherapy). This strategy will sidestep the need to assert that marijuana cures anything, while also profiting from a sale of two drugs instead of one.
Drug companies and their federal partners will warn against the use of home-grown marijuana as medicine, citing lack of purity, consistency, and, of course, the absence of a prescribing physician—who must be in the mix, in order to ensure proper dosing for proper reasons.
In this regard, the FDA will probably insert its ugly face into the scene, to bolster the bottom-line of its main client, Big Pharma.
We could even see the resumption of the old pesticide spraying campaigns to poison marijuana grown outdoors.
We’ll certainly see GMO marijuana straight out of the foul maw of Monsanto, Dow, and Syngenta. Along with grotesque pesticides. (So protect the seeds.)
Holding a patent on marijuana as medicine, and accumulating more such patents, is a federal strategy designed to bring private growers and makers of marijuana oil into court at the government’s whim—on a charge of infringing on the patents’ territory. Add to that: practicing medicine without a license.
But the barn is already open. Wide open.
Long ago, the horses ran into the far distance.
When it comes to medicine, untold numbers of people are already using marijuana oil, because they have developed this odd idea that they are in charge of their own bodies.
If the feds want to go to war over that, they’re going to learn the real meaning of a term cadets blithely study in army colleges: asymmetrical.
Dizzying asymmetry.
The old Health Freedom movement of the early 1990s is developing a new face and identity. It doesn’t need nutritional-supplement companies as allies or funding sources. It doesn’t need anybody.
Just a fast-growing plant.
And a cockeyed, ancient, outmoded notion once called liberty.

Most repugnant, that the prohibition of marijuana resulted in the exploitation of the masses for unauthorized, classified, non-therapeutic human experimentation. The criminal assault and battery, as a result of prohibiting pot, is incredible.

I wonder if US HHS has issued a license to Monsatan for the rights to develop against patent # 6,630,507. If so, then maybe they are carrying out that work on the island of Maui. I am not able to confirm that one way or another — as the Feds have redacted the following document:
https://jonrappoport.wordpress.com/2015/04/10/revealed-a-secret-monsanto-document-in-the-maui-gmo-case/
Also, like Hawaii, I believe that Cuba also has a 365 day per year growning season, does it not?
Maybe Cuba, under a TPP agreement with the Barry Davis (aka Obama) (http://www.obamasrealfather.com/breaking_news002/), will grow Monsatan GMO Marijuana?
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/19/us/politics/obama-intends-to-lift-several-restrictions-against-cuba-on-his-own.html?_r=0
I was thinking the same thing about Monsanto and Maui. Theodore.
Good catch. Monsanto would have to pull a rabbit out of the hat.
Maui just might be a way to give GMO’S a better face. Anti-GMO has a cannabis face, a hippie, new age face.
Cannabis, GMO cannabis could be that change.

I thought that all natural compounds could not be patented?
What happened here?????
One would think that the pharmaceutical gods would have begun researching, developing, patenting and marketing cannabis based products years ago, as was done with the poppy derived opiates. Could this obvious delay have been based on the fact that cannabis has the potential to cure rather than simply suppress symptoms, therefore failing the accepted pharmacological model?
Like.
the NWO must keep cannabis under wraps.
this medicine will topple their house of cards once the meme reaches tipping point.
and we are close to that point.
because moms and dads trying to help their sick children are becoming involved.
if you read the list I posted with all the patents taken by us gov, you will see “neurogenesis” as one of the listed benefits of cannabis.
it means: helping nerves regenerate or heal. now, think of this: autism. affects nerves in brain, intestines, everywhere. could this cannabis medicine help children who damaged by vaccines? rebuild nerves so they can function?
the oldest mummy found to date was emperor of china. he was buried with a pouch of cannabis.
And you have only scratched the surface here Jon. For over three hundred years the best rope and sail cloth was made of hemp. You could make hemp rope six to eight inches in diameter. Sail canvas was made for sailing ship which was very durable and tough stuff. The canvas had a long life, but on major sea-going vessels, the canvas was changed after so many weeks/months of use. And so it was easier to change sail cloth at port than risk having to change it at sea. So much second had canvas was a around that a fella by the name of Levi Strauss came along, seeing this unused sailing canvas. Levi a smart fellow took the cloth and dyed it indigo blue and made a canvas overalls which sold to the workman of the day and thus the blue jean was invented.
Hemp and cannabis stalk makes a fine paper and cloth. The problem is, it is tough and durable and wear and wears. It can be made into tightly woven fabrics. beautiful fabrics. Fine fabrics.
Some of the older parchment paper in the world ie; manuscripts, and ancient documents, and coincidently the constitution of the United States of America are written on hemp paper.
As far as a cotton goes, you can get four crops of hemp in the same growing time. Hemp seeds…well your talking about about high source of protein, and nutrition, not to mention a gaggle of other nutrients and vitamins and minerals.
My wife makes healing salves and face creams from cannabis. Her cannabis salve will knock an ache, from say arthritis out of you, ten seconds after you rub it in. Cuts heal faster, burns go away fast.
I vaporize, smoke and eat the stuff. Have be doing that all my adult life. Off course it is organically grown. Nothing but the best. Your need bat shit to grow good weed.
So let me sum that up, from one crop you can gain a medicine, a paper, a cloth, a food source. I have even heard and read of someone making a plywood, very strong plywood.
Cannabis stimulates Neuro genesis, it also stimulates the the cleasing of amyloid plagues. I have smoked it for nearly forty years. I’m as sharp as tack and it is not addictive I can quit anytime I wish, I have stopped for weeks or months on end. Without any ill effects like withdrawal. I don’t smoke cigarettes and drink only the finest Irish whiskey on occasion. Maybe once a week. And I feel it would be a sin to do otherwise.
Weed has taking a bad rap for far too long. time for the truth to be told.

Monsanto and Dupont were originally petroleum based chemical companies which is why hemp disappeared from the American agricultural base, not to threaten the oil monopoly . Monsanto, Dupont, Hoechst Celanese, Roche, Merck etc have a monopoly also on the pharmaceutical medical industry which the general public has not challenged, believing they were advancing their health interests. As I have mentioned on these comments regarding my fight with bad research ,as shown on http://www.cancerfraudbadbiotech.com is the pharma industry is in bead with the various governments be they conservative or liberal .My Cell Death Signal Gene as reviewed by M.D.Anderson Cancer Center is essentially the basis of modern cancer research theory, yet it was suppressed to cover up fraud and get patent extensions for thepharma industry . as the above article by Mr .Rappoport points out the government holds patents for medical marijuana. The government is a silent partner with the pharmaceutical industry thru various government representatives holding stock etc. what the American people have to do if they want to protect their health and lower medical costs is cite the Constitution which clearly states that every American has the rIGHT to the pursuit of life , and that means HEALTH and medicines that support that life . Any practice or patent which interferes with the fair and reasonable pursuit of LIFE and health is an UNCONSTITUTIONAL act ,which means it is a criminal act ! People should really start to consider taking these people to court on their criminal actions . and helping those who point out the criminal and human rights violations . I am trying to have NIH fraud charges brought against politicians who lied in writing and blocked cancer research and let people die because they sought exclusive patent rights and personal wealth generation . Medical marijuana could save thousands of people lives TODAY , but do people really care ? We can write all we want ( I am seeking legal help to get this before the Supreme Court ) but if the PEOPLE don’t stand up and help, then the answer is, NO, they don’t care . Well does the public want to cure cancer ?
Jon,
GMO cannabis was developed by the U of Minnesota several years ago. More than 5 years ago.
This list was sent to me a year ago. It contains information and links to various patents owned by those who are locking up people and profiting from the misery created by prohibition of this miracle plant.
Like another commenter here, I make cremes, salves, ointments, oils and other alchemical formulations from cannabis. I’ve seen it cure gout, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, anxiety, depression, relieve circulatory inflammation, extract cysts, relieve pain, stop migraine headaches, plus more. alot more.
if you read the list, you can see that this plant is a cure-all. And it takes very little processing to get it into medicine form. yes, you can smoke it, but you will not get a high enough therapeutic dose for the cure. (maybe this is why all the use you hear about comes from smoking. smoking pot. how many times do you hear that? over and over. well, smoking is the method to get the least amount of medicine.
i’ve always thought that this one issue – marijuana – could bring down the whole nwo house of cards. but, so many people do not care about facts … they seem to autopilot on propaganda. Anyway, here’s the list:

Biochemist Dr. Hornby tells us in The Union: The Business Behind Getting High that for marijuana to kill, someone would have to smoke about 15,000 joints in 20 minutes.
The only human study that has been published to date was back in 2006. It was a cohort of nine patients all with recurrent glioblastoma multiforme (a rare type of primary brain cancer) http://www.nature.com/bjc/journal/v95/n2/full/6603236a.html All had their tumours resected and a catheter was placed in the cavity after surgery. Then every day doctors would directly infuse a very pure THC solution at a high concentration directly into the cavity where the tumour had been, in the hope of killing off any remaining cancer cells. The median survival of the group was just 6 months which is what is generally expected with patients who have rGBM http://www.neurology.org/content/73/15/1200.long http://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/1764056 As for the two patients who survived the longest (yet still died), the effects could be attributable to spontaneous (but temporary) regression of the disease http://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamaophthalmology/fullarticle/265874 which happens, amount of surgical resection http://neuro-oncology.oxfordjournals.org/content/18/4/462.long http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs11060-014-1397-2 http://thejns.org/doi/full/10.3171/2012.9.JNS12504 http://thejns.org/doi/full/10.3171/2013.12.JNS13184 or a number of other factors.

Thanks for the “heads-up”, Jon.
Hmmm!
So, if “government” wants to claim a “patent” on the usability of Cannabis (various) products AS medicine, then WE ought to resume OUR assertion of ownership over “government” – THEN – WE, The People will collectively (and individually) own the patent! – Sound like a grand idea ???
Patents don’t mean something works. This is why we have clinical trials.
As for the patent in question then back in 2011, the company Kannalife Sciences Inc https://www.kannalife.com was granted an exclusive license by the US National Institutes of Health – Office of Technology Transfer (NIH-OTT) for the commercialization of patent US6630507, ”Cannabinoids as Antioxidants and Neuroprotectants” http://www.google.co.uk/patents/US6630507 https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2011/11/17/2011-29726/prospective-grant-of-exclusive-license-development-of-cannabinoids-and-cannabidiols-based https://www.thestreet.com/story/11609018/1/kannalife-sciences-inc-signs-exclusive-license-agreement-with-national-institutes-of-health-office-of-technology-transfer-nih-ott.html Like all patents it makes very specific claims mainly about what illnesses/conditions structural analogues of CBD could treat.
The company now has a target drug candidate, KLS-13019 which is based on CBD https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27096053 and trials will be conducted in patients with hepatic encephalopathy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepatic_encephalopathy and chronic traumatic encephalopathy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronic_traumatic_encephalopathy when they have raised enough money.
