2 new smoking guns: Psychiatry is a complete fraud
by Jon Rappoport
June 12, 2014
I’ve published much information revealing psychiatry is a scientific fraud. Now, courtesy of Dr. Fred Baughman (ADHDfraud.net), I have two more smoking guns.
The first is a letter, dated November 10, 2008, sent from Supriya Sharma, MD, a director general of Health Canada, to a private citizen (name withheld).
Health Canada is the equivalent of the FDA in America.
Dr. Sharma is “responding on the Minister’s behalf”—the Health Minister of Canada, a post roughly comparable to the US Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Here is Dr. Sharma’s key passage:
“For mental/psychiatric disorders in general, including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, and ADHD, there are no confirmatory gross, microscopic or chemical abnormalities that have been validated for objective physical diagnosis.”
Dr. Sharma is readily admitting that the diagnosis of mental disorders has no basis in actual science.
There are no defining diagnostic tests.
That means: no blood tests, no urine tests, no hair tests, no brain scans, no genetic assays. Nothing.
The second smoking gun is an email sent from the FDA, dated March 12, 2009, to Dr. Baughman. It was written by Donald Dobbs, Consumer Safety Officer, Division of Drug Information, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research. It refers back to Health Canada and smoking gun #1:
“I consulted with the FDA new drug review division responsible for approving psychiatric drug products and they concurred with the response you [Dr. Baughman] enclosed from Health Canada.
“Psychiatric disorders (as Health Canada refers) are diagnosed based on a patient’s presentation of symptoms that the larger psychiatric community has come to accept as real and responsive to treatment.”
Could there be a better description of unscientific consensus?
There are roughly 300 officially certified and distinct mental disorders, named and published in the American Psychiatric Association’s bible, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (the DSM). There are no defining physical tests to diagnose ANY of them. It’s all fraud. It’s that simple and stark.
Psychiatrists can tap dance all they want to about “remarkable progress,” “new breakthroughs,” “the need for more research money,” “chemical imbalances,” but they’re just blowing smoke.
Perhaps psychiatry qualifies for status as a speculative hypothesis, on the level of “Jesus studied healing in Atlantis”— but in what universe does the profession deserve the unqualified backing of the federal government; the ability, under certain conditions, to have citizens placed in psych-ward lockdowns; and the indulgence of courts to hear testimony from “experts” about the mental state of defendants?
Yes, there are certainly people with severe problems. They show all sorts of signs of these problems. But the causes can stem from a variety of circumstances, and any health practitioner worthy of the name would approach each unique patient to find out what is relevant.
A deep nutritional deficit? A toxic drug or environmental chemical? Physical abuse? Extreme poverty? An ongoing threat to safety? Isolation? Confusion about the future? A disastrously poor education? Hormone imbalance? A praiseworthy refusal to accept cultural norms and the consensus of friends? Unemployment? Etc.
No need to invent 300 so-called mental disorders.
Here are two more pieces of information that attest to the unconscionable fraud that is psychiatry.
Dr. Ronald Pies, the editor-in-chief emeritus of the Psychiatric Times, laid the chemical-imbalance theory of mental disorders to rest in the July 11, 2011, issue of the Times — in Psychiatry’s New Brain-Mind and the Legend of the “Chemical Imbalance” (behind pay wall) — with this staggering admission:
“In truth, the ‘chemical imbalance’ notion was always a kind of urban legend — never a theory seriously propounded by well-informed psychiatrists.”
For decades, the whole basis of psychiatric drug research, drug prescription, and drug sales has been: “we’re correcting a chemical imbalance in the brain.”
The problem was, researchers had never established a normal baseline for chemical balance. So they were shooting in the dark. Worse, they were faking a theory. Pretending they knew something when they didn’t. That’s still the case.
In his 2011 piece in Psychiatric Times, Dr. Pies tries to cover his colleagues in the psychiatric profession with this fatuous remark:
“In the past 30 years, I don’t believe I have ever heard a knowledgeable, well-trained psychiatrist make such a preposterous claim [about chemical imbalance in the brain], except perhaps to mock it…the ‘chemical imbalance’ image has been vigorously promoted by some pharmaceutical companies, often to the detriment of our patients’ understanding.”
Absurd. First of all, many psychiatrists have explained and do explain to their patients that the drugs are there to correct a chemical imbalance.
And second, if all well-trained psychiatrists have known, all along, that the chemical-imbalance theory is a fraud…
…then why on earth have they been prescribing tons of drugs to their patients…
…since those drugs are developed on the false premise that they correct an imbalance?
Here’s another nail in the coffin: It’s a statement made by a prominent psychiatrist on an episode of PBS’ Frontline series. The episode was: “Does ADHD Exist?”
PBS Frontline Interviewer: Skeptics say that there’s no biological marker—that it [ADHD] is the one condition out there where there is no blood test, and that no one knows what causes it.
Barkley: (Dr. Russell Barkley, professor of psychiatry and neurology at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center): That’s tremendously naïve, and it shows a great deal of illiteracy about science and about the mental health professions. A disorder doesn’t have to have a blood test to be valid. If that were the case, all mental disorders would be invalid…There is no lab test for any mental disorder right now in our science. That doesn’t make them invalid.
Rarely will you hear a scientist make as bold and definitive a statement against his own interests as that one. And Barkley was so egregiously ignorant about what science is that he spoke with blithe confidence.
Science, as opposed to a preferred special interest, demands confirmation of its assertions. That means physical tests. Definitive tests. You claim a disorder exists in the brain, you present a physical test that confirms it.
You can search the entire DSM, the bible of psychiatry, and try to find one such defining test for a diagnosis of any of the 300 so-called mental disorders, including the old standby, schizophrenia, and you’ll go begging. You’ll come up empty.
Think of the range and influence and power of psychiatry. Think about its partnership with central governments and pharmaceutical companies. Think about its ability to pronounce people insane or mentally ill, and what it can then coercively visit on such persons.
Think about all the politicians and pundits who blithely refer society’s problems to the “need for more psychiatric treatment” and “earlier intervention” (with toxic drugs).
You’re interested in staged events? The entire profession of psychiatry, from top to bottom, is a staged event.
It claims that millions and millions of people, including very young children, are suffering from disorders that have never been proven to exist.
As disturbing as this fact may be to some people, there it is.
Of course, many will respond with disbelief. “A total fraud? That couldn’t be because there are professionals who know science and they say…”
I don’t care what they say. I don’t care what the consensus is. You want to play the game called science? You play by the rules of the scientific method. Otherwise, get out and play another game. Read tea leaves in restaurants. Buy a Ouija board. Interpret the wrinkles on an elephant.
Or just admit you’re doing preliminary research and haven’t found your way.
But don’t push people around with the claim that you’re engaged in science. You’re peddling snake oil, and anyone with a few active brain cells to rub together can see it.

they should take this one more step that it is proven that these psychotropics make them mentally ill, then “they” have these people.
finally “they” admit these drugs CAUSE suicidal thoughts/actions, depression, aggression, violence etc.
Total fraud! Indeed!
When you think about it. A patient is diagnosed mentally ill based only on a presentation of symptoms told by a patient mentally ill (according to the psychiatrist).
It’s pure guess work. Imagine a doctor doing what a psychiatrist is doing.
– I have abdominal pain and..
– It sounds bad. A surgery is required. We must remove the appendix.
– What? Are you sure?
– Oh yeah! I’m pretty sure! I’m a doctor and I know science.
Nice comparison to a Medical Doctor.
Humans are born with very little knowledge. We know how to cry, swallow, and suckle. Over time, we incorporate experiences that we have had into a conceptual structure that we call reality. After we learn language, we add facts that we accept as truths that we receive from others. All along, we are adding ideas that we generate. This structure is used as a window to evaluate new phenomena to see if we should add it to the structure.
If the structure conflicts with itself then we attempt to resolve the conflicts. If the conflicts are not resolvable then we weigh the most reasonable part of the structure heavier than others. In fiction, the attempt to resolve mental conflict by the computer HAL in the movie 2001: a space odyssey is an example of such resolution.
Psychologists could find conceptual conflicts in a persons mind by asking a series of pointed questions. Malnutrition and chemical imbalances could also be corrected if they were known to exist. The fact that the experts resists these common sense approaches indicates that they know that they are playing their part in a confidence game.
The insanity of Americans is based on the fact that they have unresolved conflicts in the definition of their character: America is the land of the free and home of the brave where you can’t fight city hall. Government is our servant and our master. We are free and slaves.
The article is excellent and I mostly agree with every bit of it. And your comment is excellent. I definitely do believe in chemical imbalances. Unless I am mistaken, chemical imbalance occurs when a person is starving for fluid to drink. When they become sufficiently dehydrated, they become confused and may walk around in circles until they die. When a burn patient becomes sufficiently dehydrated, his mental prowess slows. That said, the term is misused, abused, and should be removed from the practice of psychiatry. The chemical imbalances are indeed that, but are physical and not psychological – but I can see some correlations, and I can see where there can be the combination of physical and psychological marriages, so to speak. I think the “profession” of psychiatry should take a long, deep look at itself, clean itself up, and stick to what is KNOWN, not what is thought or imagined. I think the government should keep its hands completely away from all professions as all thinking people know a LOT more than government does, and we know it screws up everything it touches.
you seem to think psychological is something other than physical. all mental processes are physical. they are emergent from the current state of brain. of course current thoughts, experiences and anxieties matter as they affect that current state. the way they do is biochemical… just like what you think is not.true illness. am i reading too deep into your remarks?

Reblogged this on loquendo laxe and commented:
Psychiatry has long been suspected of being fraudulent. Although there are many elements to its post-WWII widespread application we also need to take note of its roots. They lie (yet again) in the poisoned soil of East European Jewry (Sigmund Freud). And psychiatry was integral to the policing of the Judaeo-Bolshevik USSR. Anyone (particularly intellectuals) opposed to the Soviet State was an automatic candidate for psychological diagnosis, and subsequent incarceration in an asylum. Since 2001 and the rapid establishment of the Dept. of Homeland Security, we have seen very similar patterns and motivations emerge within the Continental USA. So, readers are advised to take this topic very seriously and to read Jon Rappoport’s article assiduously.

re: “Anyone (particularly intellectuals) opposed to the Soviet State was an automatic candidate for psychological diagnosis, and subsequent incarceration in an asylum.”
To add to what Loquendo mentioned,… here is a quote from Branko Bokun in his book “Man: The Fallen Ape” (1977):
“…in the disputes between the East and West concerning the Russian opponents of the Soviet regime… [m]any dissidents went to lunatic asylums and were treated as mentally sick. Western doctors and the press accused Soviet doctors of being blind instruments of the regime and of having broken the solemn oath of their calling. The Russian doctors thought the West had gone mad in reproaching their behavior. For them, anyone who opposed such an efficient police power must be mentally disturbed. In their view, only those who had what Seneca called Libido morienti (the death wish) would dare to provoke the State. The Russian doctors were convinced that they were undertaking a humanitarian mission by placing the opponents of the regime in asylums and thereby reducing their aggression–the only hope for their survival. To reduce the outstanding to mediocrity was always a medical and human duty in a state where mediocrity had the better chance of survival.” — “Man: The Fallen Ape” by Branko Bokun (1977)

You would have to be crazy to want to fight the organized criminals, isn’t that it. An arbitrary declaration of ones mental state. In a land where it is deemed proud and boastful to openly proclaim to have a faith and love for the unseen imagined god and his son. At the same time thinking that a son sired itself. To oppose that ideal, you must be crazy in a mental state.
The fraud profession is a tool of the state. Where are they most useful, in a court of Law to lock someone up.
I do not recall who it was that first said so, “It is injustice that makes a man insane.”
There’s no chemical imbalance or over dose, it is all about the injustice.
thank you, Jon, for sticking with this topic. It is one of the most important and dangerous things right now. The increased “focus on mental illness” we could see this coming a mile away. Now, I hear more and more random people shaking their heads (“knowingly”) and saying, “we need more help for the mentally ill to prevent gun violence” so the indoctrination is clearly taking hold.
It’s alarming, to say the least, to see how unquestionably gullible so many people are. These are people I know.
Much of this is hard to put into words, but as the years have gone by, my thinking capabilities have become more flexible and I have picked up new tools along the way. This has been deliberate. I have seen very few of my family and friends do the same; rather, they have chosen to remain in the apparent safety of their familiar prison of indoctrinated thought patterns. I am not saying this from a judging standpoint, but just that it is an odd thing, and it is a bit alienating and lonely, and yet this is a path I’ve chosen. So thank goodness for the internet, where I can see that others are also using their minds in flexible ways (validation is heartening).
How to break through the rigid thinking I keep encountering? (maybe it’s not possible, but it is lonely if I cannot succeed). I sometimes think to myself, what am I supposed to do — leave all of my longstanding friendships and my family? Seek a totally new set of friends? How can I be true to myself? It is frustrating, more and more, to be around these dear family and dear friends that I can no longer agree with. I tend to speak less and less, so that I do not offend them and drive them away. (I am polite by nature and do not wish to offend. I am also “loyal” and do not wish to abandon). For example, a friend who has been diagnosed with cancer and is choosing conventional treatment and believes in that, and is fearful. I cannot bring myself to say, “there are cures for that, you know….” because I know they will become greatly offended and I would only add to their inner conflict and anguish. I do not anymore, sometimes, know how to help and be compassionate. I can only offer some hints and clues, and if they “hear” me and ask for more info, THEN I will spill it. Otherwise…. I am finding difficulty in being myself, because I have changed in this other direction, becoming more aware, and they have not. This mental illness thing makes total sense to me, in the way that Jon puts it. I had already come to this conclusion on my own, so it is very heartening to hear that others also see this.
Many psychologists cannot help resolve “mental illness” or these conflicts, because many psychologists themselves do not understand what they are doing. I truly believe the majority of them are not in on the plan, but are, rather, just as duped as their patients/clients. And cause great damage, thereby.
Exactly…your feelings resonate within me as well Dani. I could not have been more concise.
l am constantly getting into arguments with more ridgid members of family about the details of this illlusion we live in.
Everything is for sale, everything is sold, soonwe will be buying canned sunshine.
Wow, great idea! I’m going to start selling sunshine in a bag tomorrow. Maybe I can be the Rockefeller of this age. He started his career selling snake oil and eventually started the AMA. I’ll start the Department of Redundancy Department and be the authority on making sure people can only have what they already have if I sold it to them.
The reality is with these so *called “shootings” is the more often common factor besides a gun and dead people, is the medications the alleged shooters were taking and the law(s) that enable those drugs names to remain a secret. What were they taking and for how long? It is no longer a question of if they were seeing a “professional” per Ibid, what were they giving them? Were they also using hypnosis? Answers that are not forth coming yet they are proceeding as if there are no questions in that regard.
*some have been shown to be quite fake.
re: “what were they taking and for how long?”
i believe the answers to all these types of question come out in court — if there is a case brought to court.
For example,….
Jury Awards $1.5 million for suicide involving antidepressants based on Dr. Breggin’s testimony
http://breggin.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=298
With these shootings, there is no Court to hear anything. Leads me to think of the hypnosis angle, the final order is the suicide homicide. A combination of drug and suggestion under hypnosis.
Dani, if by chance someday you should add animal rights to your conscious awareness and understanding you’ll learn a little bit more about what you’ve just said. Welcome to the lonely hearts club. 😉
psychiatry…a […] mind-fcuk for the easily manipulable.
Yes indeed,
Psychiatry is a gigantic fraud and always has been. Thomas Szaz pointed it out decades ago and everything he said is still true today. But today, we also have these narco/pharma nazi doctors drugging everyone under the sun. Shrinks and quacks, shrinks and quacks, don’t put your life in the hands these phony hacks.
http://www.amazon.com/The-Myth-Mental-Illness-Foundations/dp/0061771228/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1402662745&sr=8-1&keywords=myth+of+mental+illness
I am a case manager (bachelors level) in the mental health field almost 15 years. I currently work in a mental hospital, where patients put on involuntary holds are brought in. I am also a patriot/truthseeker, so here’s a perspective “from the trenches” so to speak. The only issue I take with your article is regarding schizophrenia (or any of the psychotic disorders that cause hallucinations), and extreme forms of depression. While there are no physical/lab findings, it is diagnosed by “signs and symptoms” (there are in fact many other physical ailments diagnosed by this method). It is unmistakable. When you have a person standing in front of you, naked and screaming that the blue dragons are rotting their organs so they must drink carpet cleaner and jump out of a moving car, the doctor is pretty sure he has a schizophrenic on his hands. Antipsychotic medications (such as haldol) do work, though sadly, not completely for everyone. Some patients do quite well and are restored to their former functioning, others have to be cared for in boarding care homes. It is mind-blowing, however, that in our “advanced” civilization and technology, that there aren’t definitive physical tests and treatments that are safe and fully effective for true mental illness. Another fact is, about 2/3 of the people in the mental health system don’t belong there – but they aren’t in it because anyone forced them to, they are there because they insisted on it, usually drug addicts who want SSI benefits, housing, free “legal” drugs (that they often sell to buy other “goodies” with) and to be in a victim role. But they get a bullshit “bipolar” diagnosis because they “don’t get along with people”. Someday, I’m going to write a book…
Rocker don’t feel alone in your distraught over mental illness and quack diagnosis. The Big Pharma people have corrupted everything in medicine and science with junk science!
http://www.manhealthissue.com/2007/06/epidemiologists-vote-to-keep-doing-junk-science.html
Epidemiologists Vote to Keep Doing Junk Science
Epidemiology Monitor (October 1997)
An estimated 300 attendees a recent meeting of the American College of
Epidemiology voted approximately 2 to 1 to keep doing junk science!
Specifically, the attending epidemiologists voted against a motion
proposed in an Oxford-style debate that “risk factor” epidemiology is
placing the field of epidemiology at risk of losing its credibility.
Risk factor epidemiology focuses on specific cause-and-effect
relationships–like heavy coffee drinking increases heart attack risk. A
different approach to epidemiology might take a broader
perspective–placing heart attack risk in the context of more than just
one risk factor, including social factors.
Risk factor epidemiology is nothing more than a perpetual junk science machine.
But as NIEHS epidemiologist Marilyn Tseng said “It’s hard to be an
epidemiologist and vote that what most of us are doing is actually harmful
to epidemiology.”
But who really cares about what they’re doing to epidemiology. I thought
it was public health that mattered!
we have seen the “SELECTIVE” blindness disease that
Scientist have practiced over the past ten years. Seems the only color they
see is GREEN BACKS, it’s a very infectious disease that has spread through
the Scientific community with the same speed that any infectious disease
would spread. And has affected the T(thinking) Cells as well as sight.
Seems their eyes see only what their paid to see. To be honest, I feel
after the Agent Orange Ranch Hand Study, and the Slutz and Nutz Implant
Study, they have cast a dark shadow over their profession of being anything
other than traveling professional witnesses for corporate hire with a lack
of moral concern to their obligation of science and truth.
The true “Risk Factor” is a question of ; will they ever be able to earn
back the respect of their profession as an Oath to Science, instead of
corporate paid witnesses with selective vision?
Oh, if this seems way harsh, it’s nothing compared to the damage of peoples
lives that selective blindness has caused!
Ever since I first heard the term BiPolar I thought ‘good mood and bad mood’, what’s the problem?
As I mentioned in another reply, “Injustice makes a man insane.”
Rockerchic4God, I’m glad you see people with needs as you can reach the needy on the human level of compassion which psychopaths who are label happy don’t seem to have. Have they been allergy tested? Tested for heavy metal toxicity or any toxicity? What about the spiritual influence of their condition? Then of course who or what may have brainwashed them? Are they just plain angry at our govenment? Lol? Were they given poisonous fluoroquinolone antibiotics by physicians they trusted, such as Cipro or Leviquin which has a host of damaging side affects including depression? What about those who were abused , or broken hearted in life? What happened to empathy and talk therapy? Sometimes life gets tough and its not meant to walk alone.
One friend told me that he can’t get off these meds. Another woman was already on antidepressants and more depressed than ever, was given another and told she’d be on for life – A little girl who was full of life, now subdued, didn’t want to play. She said it was the “meds”. In my state for marital problems alone, its easy to have someone by court order put away, where they get strip searched, and drugged without consent.
The Citizens Commission on Human Rights (www.cchrint.org) has a mission to eradicate abuses committed under the guise of mental health and has helped enact 150 laws to protect people from abusive or coercive mental health practices.. However, on a personal level, perhaps talking to and sharing your health and stress management practices will help intervene and keep someone from getting snared or rail-roaded.
Why don’t you all go to Amazon and find books on energetic, consciousness healing? There are many. Authors like Donna Eden, Jack Angelo, Gerald Epstein, Bradley Nelson, Alice Burmeister and so on, and methods like Jin Shin Jyutsu, EFT, Breath-work, QiGong, Mental Imagery, Energetic Exercises, Magnet Therapy and so on.
The new manual (DSM V) puts everyone in the bull’s-eye. More than 50 percent of the American population could easily be labeled as mentally ill using the new DSM V.

The Medicalizing of America
Part I: The Numbers Game
Medicalize: “To identify or categorize (a condition or behavior) as being a disorder requiring medical treatment or intervention,” American Heritage Dictionary.
Responses to virtually all questions, medical and otherwise fall into two categories: 1. Those having a finite number of answers, including yes, no, or in-between, for example “are you hungry?” or “are you sick?” and 2. Questions having a range of answers or values. Biologic and other scientific measurements fall into this latter category and include such things as weight, age, height, blood pressure, blood chemical values, such as glucose, cholesterol, PSA, etc. Where we get into trouble is in deciding, particularly in medicine, what is indeed normal and what is not. No matter where we place the dividing line or cutoff point, we are faced with an irresolvable medical dilemma.
If we make the cutoff between normal and abnormal too low, we include too many normal in the abnormal group (called false positives, a Type I error); if the cutoff is too high, we include an excess of abnormal in the normal group (false negatives, Type II error). In the first instance we call too many well people sick, and in the latter, too many sick people well. (We are assuming the spectrum of low to high corresponds to the range of normal to abnormal; sometimes this range is reversed.)
Over the years, various cutoff points for normal values have been based on generally accepted statistical and common sense clinical grounds. For example we have “normal” values for fasting and non-fasting blood sugars, upon which the diagnosis of diabetes is based; the “normal” level for blood pressure, defining the condition, hypertension; cutoff points for weight, defining obesity; and “normal” levels of blood lipids (HDL,LDL and total cholesterol) which for some even define the presence of heart disease (sic!). In what appears as a fatally misguided hope of extending treatment benefits to as many citizens as possible, various professional societies as well as Government Agencies have indeed changed our definitions of disease with unforeseen consequences. Specifically, in the present climate of change driven by a perceived need to keep us healthy and long-lived, these cutoff points have been lowered progressively and so drastically as virtually to create a nation of patients.
In a revealing article in Effective Clinical Practice (March/April 1999) Lisa M. Schwartz and Steven Woloshin conclude that the number of people with at least one of four major medical conditions (actually risk factors) has increased dramatically in the past decade because of changes in the definition of abnormality. Using data abstracted from over 20,700 patients included in this Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III, 1988-1994) conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics, the authors calculated the prevalence of diabetes, hypertension, elevated cholesterol, and being overweight under the old and the new definitions and calculated the net change (i.e., number of new cases). Here are the results reported in the above article.
Diabetes:
Old Definition: Blood sugar > 140 mg/dl
People under old definition: 11.7 million
New Definition: Blood sugar > 126 mg/dl
People added under new definition: 1.7 million
Percent increase: 15%
The definition was changed in 1997 by the American Diabetes Association and WHO Expert Committee on the Diagnosis and Classification of Diabetes Mellitus.
Hypertension:
High blood pressure is reported as two numbers, systolic or peak pressure and diastolic pressure when heart is at rest) in mm Hg.
Old Definition: cutoff Blood Pressure > 160/100
People under old definition: 38.7 million
New Definition: Blood Pressure > 140/90
People added under new definition: 13.5 million
Percent Increase: 35%
The definition was changed in 1997 by U.S. Joint National Committee on Prevention, Detection, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure.
Prehypertension, a new category created in 2003: blood pressure from 120/80 to 138/89 includes 45 million additional people! If one includes this category, we have a grand total of 97.2 million total numbers of hypertensives and prehypertensives (whatever that is).
High (Total) Cholesterol:
Old Definition: Cholesterol > 240 mg/dl total cholesterol
People under old definition: 49.5 million
New Definition: Cholesterol > 200 mg/dl total cholesterol
People added under new definition: 42.6 million
Percent increase: 86%
The definition was changed in 1998 by U.S. Air Force/Texas Coronary Atherosclerosis Prevention Study.
Overweight:
Body Mass Index (BMI) is defined as the ratio of weight (in kg) to height (in meters) squared and is an inexact measure of body fat, though it supposedly establishes cutoff points of normal weight, overweight, and obesity.
Old definition: BMI > 28 (men), BMI > 27 (women)
People under old definition: 70.6 million
New definition: BMI > 25
People added under new definition: 30.5 million
Percent Increase: 43%
The definition was changed in 1998 by U.S. National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute.
“The new definitions ultimately label 75 percent of the adult U.S. population as diseased,” conclude the two researchers. They add cautiously that “…the extent to which new ‘patients’ would ultimately benefit from early detection and treatment of these conditions is unknown. Whether they would experience important physical or psychological harm is an open question.”
We seem to live in an equal opportunity consumer culture tyrannized by the fear of growing “epidemics” going by the leading risk brand names, High Blood Pressure, Obesity, Diabetes, and High Cholesterol. Just read the papers, peruse the Internet, or turn on your TV to learn what the Government watchdogs, the consensus insurgency, and the other image makers have to say about our disastrous state of health.
Several related questions arise when we consider the implications of these new definitions of disease (actually disease risk-markers). First how did these official and semi-official watchdogs achieve their status of “guideline-makers,”who appoints them and why, and how powerful an influence do they wield in terms of medical practice? Finally, one has to wonder what is the rationale for adding over 86 million new “patients” (not counting 45 million “prehypertensives”) to our already staggering over-the-top healthcare cost.
Coming soon, these and other issues will be examined in our next newsletter.

Psychiatry’s Billing Bible: The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)
The American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is psychiatry’s billing bible of so-called mental disorders. With the DSM, psychiatry has taken countless aspects of human behavior and reclassified them as a mental illness simply by adding the term disorder onto them. While even key DSM contributors admit that there is no scientific/medical validity to the disorders, the DSM nonetheless serves as a diagnostic tool, not only for individual treatment, but also for child custody disputes, discrimination cases, court testimony, education and more.
The DSM is driven not by science, but instead caters to the pharmaceutical industry. With its expanding list of “mental disorders”—voted into existence, not discovered as in real medicine—for each of these a psychiatric drug can be prescribed and insurance companies billed. That big formula spells big profits for psychiatrists and drug companies. And this has been exposed more recently with a U.S. Senate Finance Committee investigation into the APA itself and the fact that about 56% of its $12 million-a-year income derives from drug makers (more below).
“The way to sell drugs is to sell psychiatric illness,” says Carl Elliot, a bioethicist at the University of Minnesota.[1]
Kelly Patricia O’Meara, an award winning journalist and former Congressional staff points out, “Drug companies pull a mental disorder out of the DSM hat and get FDA approval to use an already existing drug to treat it. Well-known psychiatrists are enlisted to publicly affirm the disorder as a social problem…Voila! Confirmed psychiatric ill and magic pill.”[2]
Even within its own ranks there is disagreement about the drug company influence on the diagnostic process. An international poll of mental health experts conducted in 2001, voted DSM-IV one of the 10 worst psychiatric papers of the millennium.
Dr. Irwin Savodnik, an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California, Los Angeles, says: “The very vocabulary of psychiatry is now defined at all levels by the pharmaceutical industry.”
Studies Expose Conflicts of Interest
That became evident in the landmark study published in the journal of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics in 2006 that found that for more than half of the panel members that reviewed which disorders would be included in the fourth edition revision of DSM (1994), more than half had undisclosed financial links to Big Pharma. For the so-called mood disorders (“depression” and “bipolar”) and “schizophrenia/psychotic disorder,” 100% of the panel members had financial involvements with drug companies. Sales of the drugs prescribed for these (by virtue of their inclusion in the DSM) reach more than $80 billion worldwide.
Apparently the APA psychiatrists did not want to give up this cashcow. For the DSM-V revision, another study found that 18 of the 20 members overseeing the revision of clinical guidelines for treating just three “mental disorders” had financial ties to drug companies, with drug treatment for these disorders generate some $25 billion a year in pharmaceutical sales (U.S. alone).
Under such public criticism and a year after it had been under investigation by the Senate Finance Committee for its conflicts of interest in drug companies, in March 2009, the APA announced that it would phase out pharmaceutical funding of continuing medical education seminars and meals at its conventions. However, within two months, the APA accepted more than $1.7 million in pharmaceutical company funds for its annual conference, held in San Francisco.
Not surprising. In 2002, the APA’s Anand Pandya said that without pharmaceutical industry funds, membership dues could escalate 455% from $540 a year to $3,000. Pandya is president of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), which in 2009 as also asked to provide records of its pharmaceutical company funding to federal investigators.
Psychiatry’s 300% increase of mental disorders in the DSM over five decades has already generated billions of dollars in government funding. Since DSM-IV, there has been also been a 256% increase in psychiatric (antipsychotics and antidepressants) drug sales.
Just how far psychiatrists will go using the DSM to label people “disordered” is reflected in a recent survey conducted by Ronald Kessler, professor of health care policy at Harvard Medical School. He relied upon the DSM to survey Americans and concluded that nearly every second one (48%) suffers from at least one mental illness during their lifetime.[3] A “DSM–IV personality disorders” survey that he conducted for the World Health Organization, the results of which were published in 2009, was heavily funded by Eli Lilly Foundation,Ortho-McNeil, GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer. Kessler himself is a consultant for at least seven drug companies.
More to the point, as the late Dr. Sydney Walker III, a neurologist and psychiatrist, wrote: “Drug company money influences every aspect of modern-day psychiatry. The American Psychiatric Association is literally built on a foundation of drug money…In return, the APA bends over backward to help drug companies promote their products.”[4] “That influence,” he said, “has focused on expanding the number of ‘psychiatric disorders’ recognized by the APA, and the number of drug treatments recommended for these disorders. After all, every DSM ‘diagnosis,’ is a potential gold mine for pharmaceutical firms.”[5]
No Scientific Validity
As the diagnoses completely lack scientific criteria, anyone can be labeled mentally ill, and subjected to dangerous and life-threatening treatments based solely on opinion. The scientific validity of the DSM has come under increasing attack from medical professionals and scientific experts such as Herb Kutchins of California State University and Stuart A. Kirk of UCLA, and authors of Making Us Crazy: The Psychiatric Bible and the Creation of Mental Disorders, determined that “…there is ample reason to conclude that the latest versions of DSM as a clinical tool are unreliable and therefore of questionable validity as a classification system.”
The late Loren Mosher, M.D., a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry who resigned from the APA because of its drug company influence, wrote: “DSM-IV has become a bible and a money making bestseller—its major failings notwithstanding. It confines and defines practice, some take it seriously, others more realistically.”
Further, “The issue is what do the categories [in DSM] tell us? Do they in fact accurately represent the person with a problem? They don’t, and can’t, because there are no external validating criteria for psychiatric diagnoses. There is neither a blood test nor specific anatomic lesions for any major psychiatric disorder.”
The internationally renowned professor of psychiatry emeritus Thomas Szasz, supports this point, writing: “There is no blood or other biological test to ascertain the presence of a mental illness, as there is for most bodily diseases. If such a test were developed, then the condition would cease to be a mental illness and would be classified, instead, as a symptom of a bodily disease.” So classified, it would make psychiatry redundant, and general physicians would replace it.
Therein lies the underlying problem of DSM—it isn’t a medical diagnostic system. Its all based on opinion—and faulty at best. Psychiatry lacked a system equivalent to that in medicine, and this contributed greatly to its poor reputation, both among medical professionals and the population as a whole. Thus it invented DSM to both convince real medicine of psychiatry’s legitimacy and to capture a slice of the insurance market. As Kutchins and Kirk point out, the evolution of the DSM is a “story of the struggles of the American Psychiatric Association to gain respectability within medicine and maintain dominance among the many mental health professionals.”[6]
Further, they assumed that if “a group of psychiatrists agree on a list of atypical [new] behaviors, the behaviors constitute a valid mental disorder. Using this approach, creating mental disorders can become a parlor game in which clusters of all kinds of behaviors (i.e. syndromes) can be added to the manual.” In fact, all DSM succeeds in doing is “to medicalize too many human troubles.”
Even psychiatrist Al Parides observes: “what they have done is medicalize many problems that don’t have demonstrable, biological causes.
Other Expert Quotes Show No Science to DSM
Jeffrey A. Schaler, Ph.D.: says its tantamount to fraud. “The notion of scientific validity…is related to fraud. Validity refers to the extent to which something represents or measures what it purports to represent or measure. When diagnostic measures do not represent what they purport to represent, we say that the measures lack validity. If a business transaction or trade rested on such a lack of validity, we might say that the lack of validity was instrumental in a commitment of fraud.”
Psychiatry has been unable to determine a single cause for a single mental disorder.
•Dr. Harold Pincus, Vice Chairman of the DSM-IV task force admitted, “There has never been any criterion that psychiatric diagnoses require a demonstrated biological etiology (cause).”
•Psychologist Renee Garfinkel, a staff member of the American Psychological Association, said of the DSM-III-R review committee: “The low level of intellectual effort was shocking. Diagnoses were developed by majority vote on the level we would use to choose a restaurant. You feel like Italian, I feel like Chinese, so let’s go to a cafeteria. Then it’s typed into the computer.”
•J. Allan Hobson and Jonathan A. Leonard, authors of Out of Its Mind, Psychiatry in Crisis, A Call For Reform: “…DSM-IV’s authoritative status and detailed nature tends to promote the idea that rote diagnosis and pill-pushing are acceptable.”
•Elliot S. Valenstein, biopsychologist, author of Blaming the Brain: “DSM-IV is not an exciting document. It is purely descriptive and presents no new scientific insights or any theories about what causes the many mental disorders it lists.”
The DSM-V review psychiatrists should take heed of Paul Genova, M.D., writing in Psychiatric Times, who said, the “DSM diagnostic system has outlived its usefulness by about two decades. It should be abandoned, not revised.”

I lay most of the blame for the hoax on the drug companies, enabled by fascist support from the government that they have coopted–an arrangement rather similar to banking and the cancer industries. Capitalism is economic war and the first casualty is always truth, freedom not far behind.
How stupid it is to entrust one’s health to capitalist entities that have their eyes glued exclusively and ruthlessly to their own bottom lines. Of course countries that entrust their healthcare to the highest degree to unregulated private concerns have the worst health.
This statement; “That couldn’t be because they are professionals who know science and they say…” What it boils down to my friends is just because someone calls themselves a professional doesn’t make what comes out of their mouths any more relevant than anyone elses comments.
It is no better than doctors writing prescriptions or speaking in Greek/Latin. It is always a self serving egotistical position that someone takes to get others to believe that they are one step on the ladder above everyone else.
Humans have the capacity to be deceptive in garnering a larger portion of our egotistical pie. This is all Part and Parcel to our Animalistic Territorial Imperatives. Those with the largest herd of females is the winner for their genetic linage. Humans have taken this bit of our animal nature and turned it into an intellectual contrivance, and it is this contrivance that this article is all about.
IE: Humans have no compunction against lying and Bull Sh*ting each other for the sole supposed of gaining the one upmanship they believe satisfies their egos need to be on top !!!
It is as our financial institutions have found out, “Professionals” are the idiots who caused the financial breakdown of 2008. If anyone tells you they are a professional then ask them to prove it, and then listen carefully to the words that spew out of their collective mouths. You’ll notice that a great BSers know no conscience, as the are too tied into supporting their moral instability !!!!
aRockerchic4God , I sympathize with your view of things from your unempowered perspective. You are to be commended for trying to help others trapped in this massive human “CON JOB” ; however , your training blinds you to KNOWING THE TRUTH behind the gates of this induced and “FOR HIRE HELL ON EARTH” .
Simply all that you or anyone else (that CARES) needs to do is gain a fairly recent historical perspective for the reasons things are as they A-R-E !!!!!
What H-A-S OCCURRED since “the poisoned soil of East European Jewry (Sick Sig Freud) . . . “psychiatry was integral to policing of the Judaeo-Bolshevik USSR.” as stated by @loquendolaxe above IS CAREFULLY HIDDEN FROM UNSUSPECTING HUMANS ! ! !
Psycho-politics : A synthesis of the Russian Textbook on psycho-politics . This textbook , which was used by the Communists to promote psycho-POLITICAL Warfare in America (HELL-o), and for training Communist and German psychiatrists in America before and after Word War II . contains a circa 1936 speech by Stalin’s chief-of-police L. Beria to American psychiatric students at Lenin University in Austria. It details the communists’ chief goals that have currently been brought to bare against all humanity via zionist jewry “to produce a Maximum of Chaos in the culture of the enemy . . . Our Fruits are grown in Chaos, Distrust, ECONOMIC depression and SCIENTIFIC TURMOIL. At least a weary populace can seek peace(?) only in our offered Communist State, at last only Communism can resolve the problems of the masses.”
Unfortunately for you and most Americans, our current situation with communists “in the hen house” is like being in the forest and attempting to see the trees. Wake UP Now my friend .
I suggest you google Psycho-politics and Beria’s speech and quickly spread the word to your friends and associates in the system. It will not do you any good to write a book . . . it’s much to late for that. Afterall, everyone around you is “brainwashed by this one.
I did write a book.
About brain-suckers, and their murderous propaganda work.
For instance, the Bolsheviks.
The people you call Zionist Jewry stopped being Jewish a century ago.
Judaism has Ten Commandments.
The Bolsheviks, by contrast, run around behind Jewish surnames,
murdering anyone who believes in doing the right thing.

Good article, and makes huge sense.

Hi Jon….great article!…You may desire to avail yourself of the work of an award winning composer, artist, film maker and activist, Neal Fox…Neal wrote a musical and did the sound score for “Meat Street”.
A multilayer satirical piece on the insane world of psychiatry….Here’s a link to this incredible work: http://www.therealnealfox.com/meat-street/ I hope you enjoy it and will keep ever-expanding your great work!!

Kind of like having a bad back as soft tissue injury can rarely(if ever) be seen on x-ray, but as soon as a patient complains of back pain The attending Doctor will usually confirm the diagnosis and prescribe dangerous medications without ever having definitive proof of any ailment.
There is a pretty big profit motive that underwrites psychiatry and its ally, the pharmaceutical industry. I suspect that the true causes of most so-called mental illnesses are known, and readily fixable.
But it’s not profitable to address the root cause, therefore patients linger for decades in mental and emotional agony while the psychiatrists and pharmaceutical companies who are supposed to be helping them only partially fix the problem in an attempt to keep the patient forever paying for treatments and medications so that they remain employed and profit handsomely from the whole sorry mess.
this just confirms what i thought all along about the psychos in the white coats, its them that are in need of treatments, like brain shock. their entire profession is based upon fraud and deceit all they way thru college years and up to their useless PHDS, they like to call themselves doctors when in real time , they are maniacs.

On the other hand, to play Devil’s Advocate, how would the public react if these “scientists” said they have no idea what was wrong, but the public demanded treatment anyway? Psychoanalysis was and is a complete fraud, but behavioralists have at least done some scientific studies on human and animal behavior in order to form theories about their origin and maintenance. Unfortunately, there is and always has been a huge market for quackery in dealing with Insanity which was always devastating and uncontrollable.
I believe what happened here is that one day a pharmaceutical company made an absurd claim about neurotransmitters being the problem and released a drug called Prozac to treat it. Amazingly, in some cases it actually worked in removing symptoms which were untreatable previously. Today, scientists argue about whether this is merely a placebo effect or whether these drugs actually are efficacious. I am of the opinion that there must be some efficacy since many of the improvements happened in patients that weren’t expecting it to work, which makes placebo effect doubtful in those cases.
Somehow, accidents sometimes occur in science where major discoveries are made completely by accident. Such as, the invention of Penicillin, where a lazy scientist who hadn’t discarded an unfinished sandwiched accidentally infected a petri dish with bread mold, and found later under a microscope that the mold had actually killed the bacteria in the petri dish.
Obviously, no one in science or the pharmaceutical industry are going to admit there is little or no science behind the paradigm of neurotransmitters being the problem behind Mental Illness, but the reason there is no pushback is because no other alternate theories are available to replace this paradigm. Gee, that’s kinda sad ain’t it?
re: “the reason there is no pushback is because no other alternate theories are available to replace this paradigm.”

“Yes, there are certainly people with severe problems. They show all sorts of signs of these problems. But the causes can stem from a variety of circumstances, and any health practitioner worthy of the name would approach each unique patient to find out what is relevant.
“A deep nutritional deficit? A toxic drug or environmental chemical? Physical abuse? Extreme poverty? An ongoing threat to safety? Isolation? Confusion about the future? A disastrously poor education? Hormone imbalance? A praiseworthy refusal to accept cultural norms and the consensus of friends? Unemployment? Etc.
No need to invent 300 so-called mental disorders.” — Jon Rappoport
Every one of us has some sort of mental capacity to judge a defective mental incapacity. To which degree we will restrain certain one is not science, it is self preservation of life without drama. Who gets to be the ultimate judge is the real worry!
I have a sister who is a psychologist. She told me that I have ADD and other than that I’m a little paranoid (read crazy) because I “believe a whole lot of bad stuff about the government.” I asked her if I would be more crazy if I believed they were benevolent. I also asked her who taught her and who taught them etc. and how they became “experts” somewhere along the way with no proof except what had been taught to them. Point is that she was already indoctrinated well before 9-11. They’re all reading from the same script. Side point: she was angry about my question(ing), but she no longer practices psychology (sorcery).
Of course it’s a fraud. They have never established what “normal” is”. Until they do……
All psychological THEORIES are just that, theories. They all include subjective speculation since none of them can be consistently proven without the inclusion of bias. Psychologists’ own subjective mental processes cloud their ability to judge the subjective beliefs of others that may differ from their own. The primary problem with categorical classification systems, like the DSM, is that attempts to discriminate between normal and abnormal behavior have proven to be impossible. Despite historical trends in psychology to use either broad or narrow definitions, people are in fact individuals and trying to make unique individuals precisely abide by one definition or another isn’t possible. Psychologists also lack the ability to consistently define behaviors anyways.
Psych drugs are killing people. Many acts of violence, including murder and suicide, are perpetrated by individuals who were taking psych drugs or immediately stopped taking psych drugs. The psych drugs are absolutely more dangerous than the disorders.
However, there is still hope to be found in some forms of psychology. Orthomolecular medicine practitioners believe that various forms of malnutrition cause most mental disorders. A combination of positive psychology (which seeks to edify individuals), beliefs in a higher power, and proper nutrition and exercise have proven to cure many disorders including schizophrenia. For example, orthomolecular practitioners have apparently found that high doses of niacin combined with compassion-based therapy has cured some individuals with schizophrenia.

Dear Jon Rappoport :
You’re right that psychiatrists have made many fake diagnoses, with no scientific evidence to back them up: thereby condemning millions of innocent people. But you left out the bigger issue: that once the quack psychiatrists force dangerous, poisonous psychiatric drugs on these innocent people, ( through their goon squads ), then the drugs cause REAL and severe physical and mental illness. ( When the drugs are used long enough ). What we should be talking about is why these 2 major crime catagories : fake diagnoses of the innocent and felonious assault of the same people with poisonous psychiatric drugs, go totally unpunished. One well discussed reason is the media and government in massive collusion with Psychiatry.
Another issue doesn’t come up very often. The American People are not always stupid when it comes to seeing a psychiatrist. Given what a massive fraud Psychiatry is, as we have just discussed; why have millions of Americans been gobbled up by the psychiatric system ? The fact is that the former state mental hospital system was, and is a prison system and all psychiatric institutions are prisons of different sizes and all use various forms of coercion and force. I maintain that either lies, disinformation, or out and out force were used to get people into psychiatric institutions. Even I.O.C. ( Involuntary Outpatient Commitment ) forces a citizen to be a psychiatric prisoner inside his own home. ( The new Orwellian Nightmare of the 1990’s and the 21 st Century, courtesy of the drug companies ! )
The real force behind this whole nasty system is when citizens use the legal system to lock up other citizens. But no legal system means Anarchy. I don’t have a perfect answer to this question, but the first big step is to make the so called ” criminal justice system ” comply with the 8 the Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the first step of that action is the total abolition of Psychiatry in the ” criminal justice system ” .
yours truly,
Roger Fuller

I don’t totally disagree with the premise put forth here. However, I have worked in a psychiatric facility for 30 + years and have clearly witnessed behaviors that would fit the description of “mental illness.” What these premises do not answer is what is causing these behaviors.
I am a psychiatric victim about 13 years now, diagnosed over 10 diagnosis already, i live under them, all is writed under my personal data, all the psychiatrist will going to HEll, i am not telling you that because of anger, but there is where they belong, there’s no place to put them after death because God will not let them in Paradise, and i know i will going to Paradise, and if you are not going to Paradise you are going to HEll. I cant tell you right now where i know this, but if maybe some victim will read this and will be in peace, as i will found in peace in this nazi psychiatry and psychiatrists some day., i will die anyway some day, i cannot live life because of this psychiatry and because of their medicaments, it damaged my brain and nervous system too much and God already knows all my life and what i am suffering, and suffered and everything. The worse news in your life can only be one news and its when you are going to HEll, ah they dont believe it anyway. You are going to Hell psychiatrists, and know who laugh last laughs better.
