Not my world; your world, and Exit From The Matrix

by Jon Rappoport

If, say, one out of every thousand people in a given country were energetically and creatively pursuing his most profound vision of a future he desired, life as a whole in that country would be far different from what it is now.

No map or system would be able to summarize the character of that life as a whole in that country.

Unlike writers who attempt to explain a greater reality beyond consensus reality, I’ve never sought to paint a picture of a greater reality which everyone is supposed to salute.

It’s always been my contention that ultimate reality is unique for every individual; and potentially, every individual is an artist of reality.

This became apparent to me when, based on sheer desire, and no background, I decided to start painting in 1962. The experience was revolutionary, at the core, and my life was never the same after that.

Consensus reality is, at best, an effort to connect people with each other, so society and civilization can exist at all. But inevitably, consensus overreaches and panders to lowest common denominators and seeks to enforce them. This is called Culture.

The result is the belief that “we are basically all the same.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

If we could scrape away that false veneer of sameness, we would come to the uniqueness of every individual. And this uniqueness is discovered and created BY every individual—if he makes a commitment to doing it.

The social result would NOT be estrangement and isolation. It would a different kind of community.

In my book, The Secret Behind Secret Societies, I recount my experiences with a genuine healer in New York, Richard Jenkins, in the early 1960s. Richard was treating many clients, and I was able to watch him in action.

Aside from sensing he was working with some of kind energy, I had no idea what he was doing. He told me he was operating purely from improvisation, in the moment, and he had no system or method.

After we became friends, he told me: You’re painting now. Who knows how long you’ll continue. A year, fifty years. The point is, you’re working without an ironclad map. Remember that. That’s when you invent your own future, without reference to what you’re supposed to be doing. That’s when you make your own reality. It isn’t mine or anyone else’s. That’s what the Creative Principle gives you. If you stop creating, you start fitting in. You opt for mechanical solutions. You give up ground, an inch at a time. You reduce the size and scope of your desires. You start down the road of calculating what you have to do, in order to be accepted. The magic drains away. You feel, less and less, the fire of spontaneity. Tremendous natural creativity, which is power, ebbs. SO DON’T GO DOWN THAT ROAD. Avoid it. When someone tries to show you the details of greater reality, walk away. That’s his conception. Not yours. You’re creating yours, unless you stop.

Richard was a person who was giving me a great deal of advice, but none of it involved me seeing what he was seeing. None of it involved me accepting some spread-out mural of “true reality.”

In college, I had studied the history of Western philosophy. To my eventual disappointment, every one of the great metaphysicians was building his map and system and fresco of Greater Reality—what it looked like, what it was composed of, what you should pay homage to. They rarely wrote a word about the individual invention of reality.

The confusion for people comes when they’ve already made themselves into social conformists—and THEN ask themselves what they really want to create in life. Whatever the answer is, the effort to achieve it hardly seems worthwhile, because the desires of conformists are bound to be small and circumscribed.

I’ve often used the metaphor of a grand museum. People walk through the rooms, and when they find a painting they particularly admire, they walk into it and take up permanent residence. Thereafter, they believe they’re living in the only reality that exists.

An artist of reality would never want to live in someone else’s painting. It’s doubtful he would want to live in one of his own. He might pay a visit, but then he’d exit and JUST KEEP PAINTING…

Everything I’m writing in this piece is bolstered and backed up in spades by my collection, Exit From The Matrix, which is all about the individual reclaiming his creative power. The collection contains many exercises designed for that purpose. My book, The Secret Behind Secret Societies, is included. I hope you’ll consider ordering it.

What has been called The Matrix is a series of layers. These layers compose what we call Reality. Reality is not merely the consensus people accept in their daily lives. It is also a personal and individual conception of limits. It is a perception that these limits are somehow built into existence. But this is not true.

What I’ve done here is remove the lid on those perceived limits. This isn’t an intellectual undertaking. It’s a way to open up space and step on to a new road, with new power.

Yes, yes, yes. I’m 69 years old, and although I was great in school, I could never figure out ‘what I wanted to be’, and my life seemed empty of purpose, because no path that was offered felt right to me; there was simply no passion about any career or job. Later in life, I finally rejected conventional culture and found a way that meant something to me. Thank you for helping people see that they have the power to create if they choose, to be the pilot rather than the passenger in life. Although it can be a scary choice, it is far more fulfilling than playing a role selected by family or others.

Wouldn’t it be great if this message could be shared with High School kids…fitting in is THE most important thing. But maybe that is how it is supposed to be. How do you know you are not free unless you become aware of it, when all that trying to fit in gets you is rejection, frustrations, emotional emptiness. That is when a teen might begin to look inside his own self and then step out of the box.

    I don’t know….

For today, Jon’s message is exactly what I needed.

Those of us looking for answers to the mystery of the Matrix, the system that has been over-layed on us by, well, let’s just say the powers that be (and have been for thousands of years) have a tendency to look for someone who claims to have figured it out. Decoded the Matrix so to speak. Uncovered the “hidden” mysteries of ___________.

But this is exactly what Richard Jenkins is warning about here: “When someone tries to show you the details of greater reality, walk away. That’s his conception. Not yours. You’re creating yours, unless you stop.” So simple – walk away!!!

I do have a question….regarding all the revelations (some of us have known for a while, but maybe not the full scope of it all) about the disregard by “science” for human and animal life. It all seems to be coming to a head, and I hope the awareness spreads enough for the young people to absorb this reality, and take action.

But in the meantime, should we be taking responsibility for all of that….we are so far from the original sin of legalized abortion, how can we as individuals set things right with the universe? We never consented for these things to be done in the name of “helping” humanity. The guilt and powerlessness is quite overwhelming if you let it take hold, even for a moment.

    Thanks Jon!

The thing is… people are Painting their lives every day. Whether they know it or not. Whether they believe this or not. Whether they WANT TO or not….

Every day (every second, really) is a blank slate that YOU fill in. You can fill it in with the same stuff you filled it in with for the last ten years (or more)… or you can fill it in with something new and different. Or you can let other people fill it in FOR YOU. That’s what billions of people are allowing today – letting others fill in the blank pages of the precious days of others. And The Others are more than thrilled to oblige.

People with awareness embrace their artistry. They honor and relish in it. Others choose to ignore or deny it for various reasons. And in the process, their lives are surrendered and wasted away.

Either way… you can’t opt out of the system. You are going to create… SOMETHING.

“I had studied the history of Western philosophy. To my eventual disappointment, every one of the great metaphysicians was building his map and system and fresco of Greater Reality… They rarely wrote a word about the individual invention of reality.”

Societal institutions HATE the idea of personal freedom and artistry. This idea does not serve them. They need people (victims) to buy into their narratives and surrender personal freedom to the tyranny of The Group (and for the beneficial interest of The Group to one’s own detriment). That’s why (with very few exceptions) there will not be many (or any) social institutions that embrace or teach the idea of real freedom and artistry. Those things are reserved to Them, the institutions.

It is a fundamental conflict between the creative juices of the individual and the iron fist of The Group demanding conformity. And that Iron Fist has rarely been heavier than it is right now.

Round all, I love soaking in your thoughts. At 73, here, right now, I’m sensing a new chapter, a new life, written BY ME, and not FOR me. The old chapters of Church and Family are now being seen as chains bound to and by The Conformity, and drained me of ” my full potential” (as the teacher preached but wouldn’t let practice).

In all this crumbling rubble of “reality”, at 73, I can create my life a new, and not just reborn again.OMG!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank You.

    What if awareness is reality.

All else that we sense are just clouds in the sky , thoughts in the mind.

    Awareness gives it reality.

And we shared a co created | human world of manifested forms.

Our internal state ( feelings + thoughts ) take form.

But of course perception is not objective.

And we can see that now more than ever.

  6. My view Jon is that Culture means exactly what it says, growth. And if I understand it would seem that you do not make the distinction that you make elsewhere–namely that there is what is done in the name of Culture (i.e., Christianity) and what that Culture is in its original intention and the understanding of human nature that is behind that intention (i.e., the Teachings of Jesus without the admixture of the narrators of his life and Teachings.)

Late in his life Basho wrote a wonderful Haiku about this. Watching the village people planting rice and singing to the beat of a drum he wrote: “The beginning of all culture//the rice planting songs//deep in the heart of the country.”
You can see from this that despite the fact that he was from the Samurai Class, there is in his mind/heart no distinction between what we call “fine art” and (farm) “craft.” And indeed the lower evoked the higher and was able to render brute labor naturally joyous! This is a wonderful revelation.

That which helps you to evoke and grow into your Higher Self is Culture. That which weakens you in the name of culture (like public schools and class based organizations of “art”) is anti-culture and the Devil’s game. When a fan asked Armstrong about “the meaning of Jazz,” he answered, “If you have to ask, I can’t answer.” Now, this might have been a good answer if they were already in a Master/Disciple relationship, but they weren’t. He did not say, “keep thinking on it till you get it. Then we will talk.” Maybe the question was naive and even stupid. But it was sincere and deserved something other than a dismissal. And in the end one cannot grow if one doesn’t even know that the very beginning of it is asking for the “meaning” of things–especially the meaning of the very thing that is asking the questions, eh, the confused but hungry Mind?

As usual, thanks for the essay.

PS If there were not a universal element in all true Culture, if we were all of us not One, then none of us would bother to write. So when I write rightly, there is always an evoking of my Self, as well as a felt connection with my fellow man. It is always a cross; Glenda above in the North, and Dorothy (you and me) in the South below,* intersecting the axis of East and west which is the temporal flow history that we find ourselves in. The unconscious momentum of history must be interrupted by my reception of and reinterpretation (by my Mind) of whatever Light I receive from above, from “Glenda” in this story.**

    * The meaning of the fact that there is no Witch in the Southern node is pretty obvious. We each of us alone must fill that node, eh, or we haven’t seen the film/story?

** It is worth noting that whenever the 5 Journeyers fall into anxious worry over imaginary futures and actually start using the future tense, that is when the WW of the West arrives and has power over everyone! Time makes no sense without eternity, and eternity (the need for faith) makes no sense outside of challenging the unconscious flow of time and history . And of course the Cross is the intersection of the two and the spot(Now)where I must situate myself! I must never leave what is currently beneath my feet, right now! “Just follow the Yellow Brick Road,” and nothing else matters. JWC
