Syria missile strikes: based on what evidence?

Syria missile strikes: based on what evidence?

Based on what constitutional authority?

by Jon Rappoport

April 16, 2018

“Let’s see, US Deep State actors from intelligence agencies, the Pentagon, and the Department of State, along with US allies, played a MAJOR role in creating, funding, supplying, and sustaining ISIS, while purportedly doing everything possible to destroy ISIS. No problem. Why should there be a problem?” (The Underground, Jon Rappoport)

Trump and the Pentagon claim the strikes were based on clear evidence President Assad’s forces used chemical weapons on their own civilian citizens.

The Russians point out that international inspectors were due to investigate the chemical-weapons claims on Saturday—and their findings would have denied Assad chemical attacks took place—therefore, to prevent this embarrassment, the US-led missile attacks were launched one day earlier.

MEMORANDUM FOR: The President
FROM: Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity
SUBJECT: Evidence Required for Military Decision on Syria

Mr. President,

“We the undersigned Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity join a number of other credible experts including former UK Ambassador to Syria, Peter Ford…former UN weapons inspectors and former military officers who are strongly recommending that you obtain and review actual evidence from the site of the alleged chemical attack in Douma, Syria, before ordering any military action. We have long brought to light significant evidence questioning the provenance of chemical weapons indicating that rebel forces may have tried to produce and use such toxic agents in Syria.”

“The main question that arises is, ‘What motive would the Syrian government have to attack its own people when it is enjoying popular support for routing anti-government rebels? Why would it risk Western ire?’…”

Attacks and wars initiated by governments aren’t prefaced by detailed evidence made available to the people. Presenting the whole story isn’t necessary, as far as governments are concerned.

In the US, Congress goes along with the White House. The media go along with the White House.

The last time “evidence” was rolled out—“Saddam was developing WMDs, bought uranium from Niger, bought aluminum tubes for nuke weapons production”—the whole show devolved into a farce and fell apart.

Now, it’s just “trust us.”

Many Trump supporters aren’t buying the package. They believed Trump when he said the US was going to abandon empire-building and leave foreign nations alone and let them settle their own conflicts.

Now, a number of theories abound. Trump was duped by the military-industrial complex. Trump was never serious about refraining from launching military attacks. Trump is compromising now, but he has a further secret strategy in mind, a brilliant strategy against the Deep State. Trump is bowing to the Globalists, who want to continue destabilizing the Middle East. Trump is actually carrying out an Israeli (and/or Saudi) agenda. Attacking Syria is part of a US, British, and French plan involving access to oil in the region. Trump is pretending to step up his opposition to Russia (Assad’s ally), to prove he isn’t soft on Russia, to deflate the ferocious assault on him vis-à-vis the “Russia influenced the election” claim, to deflect Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation. Trump wants to improve his poll numbers, which always rise for any president in a time of war. Trump has no idea what he’s doing. And so forth and so on.

There is no will, no determination, no desire, within the US government colossus, to be responsive to the wishes of the American people, when it comes to making war. There is no felt need to explain why war is necessary, in very specific terms that can be verified or rejected. There is no need to wait until evidence is thoroughly investigated.

This is nothing new. Trump is no exception.

Since 1998, how many Americans knew about, cared, responded, or tried to investigate US Tomahawk Cruise missiles launched at Iraq, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, Libya, Syria, Sudan, Bosnia & Herzegovina? And these attacks don’t include the recent history of untold numbers of drone strikes.

“Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution grants Congress the power to declare war. The President, meanwhile, derives the power to direct the military after a Congressional declaration of war from Article II, Section 2, which names the President Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.” (Wex Legal Dictionary)

Presidents, of course, have wormed and weaseled their way around these strictures by calling war “police actions” or “single attacks.”

And now we have this missile attack on Syria, purportedly launched to knock out chemical-weapons facilities.

This is a classic Orwellian operation: The enemy is who we are told the enemy is, and he will remain the enemy as long as our leaders say he is.

Images sent our way are described by official voice-over and given meaning, which we are supposed to accept without question.

The “good forces” opposing the enemy in Syria are named the “rebels,” instead of ISIS terrorists our leaders helped create. This, too, we are supposed to accept.

But wait. According to The Intercept, “So while over 80 members of Congress wrote to Trump on Friday night stating that ‘engaging our military in Syria … without prior congressional authorization would violate the separation of powers that is clearly delineated in the Constitution,’ their action has no impact.”

Strange. Major media haven’t blasted, with big headlines, Congressional opposition to the Trump missile strike. News coverage has been urging and supporting the strike.

It gets stranger. The Intercept: “Trump almost certainly does have some purported legal justification provided to him by the Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel [OLC] — but no one else, including Congress, can read it.”

What?

“The Office of Legal Counsel is often called the Supreme Court of the executive branch, providing opinions on how the president and government agencies should interpret the law.”

“We know that Trump received a top secret OLC opinion justifying the previous U.S. strike on Syria on April 6, 2017. Friday’s bombing undoubtedly relied on the same memo or one with similar reasoning.”

The US Justice Department is “its own judiciary.” And its legal justifications for green lighting military attacks are secret.

Constitutional Separation of Powers doctrine?

Irrelevant.

Former long-term US Congressman and presidential candidate, Ron Paul, did much to stir up the American people with libertarian ideas and proposals, and, in the process, large numbers of Americans eventually went over to Trump’s side, believing he was the reincarnation of Paul’s positions—but with a much better reach into the heartland of the country.

Read what Paul wrote on October 2, 2017, and compare it with Trump’s present stance. Paul: “Now that the defeat of ISIS in Syria appears imminent, with the Syrian army clearing out some of the last ISIS strongholds in the east, Washington’s interventionists are searching for new excuses to maintain the illegal US military presence in the country. Their original rationale for intervention has long been exposed as another lie.”

“Remember that President Barack Obama initially involved the US military in Iraq and Syria to ‘prevent genocide’ of the Yazidis and promised the operation would not drift into US ‘boots on the ground.’ That was three years ago and the US military became steadily more involved while Congress continued to dodge its Constitutional obligations. The US even built military bases in Syria despite having no permission to do so! Imagine if Syria started building military bases here in the US against our wishes.”

“After six years of war the Syrian government has nearly defeated ISIS and al-Qaeda and the US-backed ‘moderates’ [‘rebels’] turned out to be either Islamist extremists or Kurdish soldiers for hire. According to a recent report, the US has shipped two billion dollars worth of weapons to fighters in Syria via eastern Europe. Much of these weapons ended up in the hands of ISIS directly, or indirectly through ‘moderates’ taking their weapons with them while joining ISIS or al-Qaeda.”

“’Assad must go’,” proclaimed President Obama back in 2011, as he claimed that the Syrian leader was committing genocide against his own people and that regime change was the only way to save Syrians. Then earlier this year, when eastern Aleppo was about to be liberated by the Syrian government, the neocons warned that Assad would move in and kill all the inhabitants. They warned that the population of eastern Aleppo would flee from the Syrian army. But something very different happened. According to the UN’s International Organization for Migration, 600,000 refugees returned to Syria by August. Half of the returnees went back to Aleppo, where we were told Assad was waiting to kill them.”

“What happened? The neocons and ‘humanitarian interventionists’ lied. Just as they lied about Libya, Iraq, and so on.”

If Trump is sounding like Ron Paul on the issue of Syria, an elephant is a space ship.

How anyone could ever believe that Trump was going to “fight the Deep State and dismantle the Empire” is beyond me. At what point do Americans stop believing in TV democracy?

    • Bruce Wayne says:

well, we knew that Hillary and Obama were heading the deep state, so our only choice as voters was to hope that Trump would actually have drained the swamp, but as soon as he ignored the Hillary Emails and then turned and attacked Syria, we knew that he was either changed, somehow by the deep state, I.E. drugged or brainwashed somehow, or he was never really against the deep state to begin with.

The fact that in both cases, Trump responded and attacked Assad first condemning him before there could possibly be any evidence suggests that there are other folks behind the scenes controlling things.

I think that Hillary’s email scandal was proof that Hillary and Obama Armed ISIS and our government and press did everything possible to avoid brining that into a real courtroom because then there would have been a very large domino effect of people involved in this move to empower a muslim brotherhood caliphate who’s army is called ISIS.

There is much curiousity as to why the western governments would do this, even as they have turned against their own people to do so, taking money from Saudi’s is one thing, but there must be some huge deep pockets for all of this……the clinton foundation is great proof and yet, that whole deal just gor swallowed up in claims of Russian collusion and sex scandals.

  2. Lawson says:

    Jon,
An even more important question is why the American government feels itself to be a judge and intervener in the first place. Could it be that playing the role of “World’s Cop” is very profitable for the Military-Industrial puppet masters and a perceived atrocity is the 911 call that sets the big profit machine in motion? As you so aptly point out; all made possible by a tuned out public that relys only on the superficial themes played out on MSM for their compliance.

The attackers knew there were chemical weapons in Syria, put there in advance by the attackers, weapons which were captured by the Syrians, together with military personell from the Us Uk Israel and Saudiarabia.
What I fail to understand is that according to VT, Syria accepts to return the prisoners for substantial economic compensation when Syria ought to give it the maximum of media attention and let the whole world see them.

We all know Israeli Secret Intelligence Service and Al-CIA-duh are a creation of the deep state. The deep staters are crapping all over themselves now with Huma in Gitmo, and the band of gypsies from the FBI and DOJ will soon follow. Comey may have to cut his book tour short. ( I thought for a man of his stature, he’d have larger hands.) The Clinton’s, Bush’s, Obama, Johnny Wet Start, Lindsey Lowhand, Kerry, Biden, Cheney, Soros, Pillosi, Chucky, Cryin Ryan, Mitch the Bitch, and so many others know there number is coming up! (HAS ANY ONE NOTICED HOW MANY ARE ROLLING OVER, OR NOT SEEKING RE-ELECTION?) I’d like to see Nunes, and Gabbard in the house leadership, and Paul and Poco-Haunt-Us for Senate leadership.

Right after Trump announced withdrawing from Syria, that double agent and his daughter were poisoned. Was it the Russians? The chemical had MI-6 & CIA written allover it. Same with the chemical attack in Syria. Possibly “Probable Deniability”, Putin didn’t want the USA to leave Syria either.

So with the US withdrawing, one with a couple brain cells left, and an IQ over room temp C should ask “Why in the Hell would Assad do that?” He didn’t want the US to leave? He likes the US blowing the living shit out of his country? He’s in with the “Deep State”?

So like the last missile attack Cui Bono? The Deep sate got a Nuk or a Binki shoved into there Yaps. The Military Industrial Complex got more government money. Putin got target practice on our missiles, and did very well in my opinion, although they did have a problem with the bombs from the B-2’s. No one was killed, which is what Trump wanted, and as Trump would say in “W” fashion, “Mission Accomplished”!

This was nothing more than a dog and pony show for the 20 people that still watch CNN and the other media whores. Something for the peace loving Obots to bitch about! LOL I know how it works because I’m a deplorable, X Marine, Russian Bot, so says HitLIARy. The closet to combat them Obots been is Play Station, or Game Boy. This gives them the power to beat up people during there protests. Can any one say “Brown Shirts?” I bring this up because of the similarity of there Anti Fascist flag, and the Anti Fascist flag of the Nazi’s in 1938.

The Russian Ambassador to the USA released a statement the other day of what they could do to DC. They could with just 3 subs, launch about 80 nukes, and even if they were shot out of the sky, the whole east coast would be radioactive forever. If only 1 hit 300,000 instant, and another 1,000,000,000 + from fall out and poisoned food and water. FYI, distill your water will remove most radiation.

I’d worry more about Israel and Operation Jericho than the Russians. Not WWII, but when we don’t want to be there goy anymore, they nuke us with what they have hidden all over the USA.

And for my Russian Komrade Bots I’ll translate this.

The Constitution is moot. It is my understanding that this country is under Martial Law Rule. Do “We the people” even exist? Can you properly identify the body politic as known and understood by the preamble to the Constitution of the people of the States in union?

    • MartinBrian says:

True Greg, but few could care less. The Original Constitution was overthrown in the 1860’s and a new constitution under international law has been put in place, all races, creeds and colors is their mantra.

  7. Andy Mittelman says:

Awesome story Jon! When does it all end, when does the sleeple wake up and demand an end to these never ending wars by the hyrophant psychopaths that start these fake wars and fake news?

  8. Everybody is getting lost in these ephemeral propagandist news details from day-to-day, minute to minute. The same old songs being played over and over. it all about repetition — Assad gassed his people; the Russians did it.. blah blah. The Russians are to blame for everything, Assad has to go.

This, Syrian Missile strike, is a replay from the Khan Shaykhun incident which is still not solved — and I am sure, they think, if it worked once — the plan has been refined this time, it will work better.
The evidence in the Khan Shaykhun, leans greatly on the side of the Syrian/Russian advisors that state that the terrorists committed the atrocity at Khan Shaykhun –gassing and killing women and children.
Seymour Hersh did an enormous piece on the truth of the matter. If you can find his article, it is well worth the read.
The UN has still out on that matter of Khan Shaykhun, and still to call in with the results, and probably will never do that. The UN is an arm of the American Empire.

When that idiot tossed 60 cruise missiles at Syria at the behest of his Zionist spy loving daughter and his CIA masters, and because I found the truth of the matter of Syria was about a gas pipeline.

“The babies dad, what about the babies.”

That was the end of Trump for me. I knew him now as more of the same — the yin to Obama’s yang. Since that time, well he is really only been a hand puppet. He has none of the original cabinet. I think he powerless and doing what he is told. And mad men are seeking World War three.
But off course the man (Trump) is a businessman, he knows how to make money, and money makes the real world go round — whither it be selling arms to head choppers, or fighting over gas dominance in Europe, and stopping a thriving Russian economy, and BRICS presence in the world.  Donald is our man. He will end up coming out of office butter side up I think.

The whole point of Syria from the beginning, from the start of the war, has been about a NATURAL GAS PIPELINE. A respected take maybe, Robert F Kennedy Jr article on the matter. A lot more educated on the details than myself. One might find a more in-depth truth in the his article for politico, that he wrote in February of 2016.

    https://www.politico.eu/article/why-the-arabs-dont-want-us-in-syria-mideast-conflict-oil-intervention/

“1,800 trillion cubic feet (51 trillion cubic metres)”

That a big number right — 18 with fourteen zeros behind it. Now that number represents the estimated size of the South Pars/North Dome gas field, shared both by Iran and Qatar — depending on who you talk to, will determine who has the greater portion of that vast gas field –and we’re talking about the sweetest gas, and likely the largest field found so far on planet earth. It is a very rich source, easy to obtain, and as I say very clean. Far superior to all that frakked nonsense of the Obama era. If you want to talk about from an environmental point of view; frakked gas is destructive to the environment. Costs more to obtain in end. And so competition is very stiff.

Now you talk to the Americans, and you get one story; talk the Russians you get another story. But one thing is clear, this Russian/American/Qatar/Saudi Arabia/Israeli, Turkey cluster-fuck of recent times is about European natural gas dominance. We are talking a lot of money in a cooling european climate.

Now there are two routes from this South Pars/North Dome gas field. This pipeline could be…

“One route to Turkey was via Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Syria,[1][2] and another was through Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq.[3][4] Syria’s rationale for rejecting the Qatar proposal was said to be “to protect the interests of [its] Russian ally, which is Europe’s top supplier of natural gas.”[1]” – The Guardian

Are you starting to see a picture take shape here? Are pieces falling into place?

    http://www.south-stream-transport.com

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Stream

The Russians dominate as a european gas supplier, and their market is growing and have been since 2012– from their huge supplies coming from tapped fields (surpluses waiting for a market) deep within Russia’s Siberia. That gas was being sold, until the Ukraine/American/Russian kerfuffle tied a knot in the flow south to european markets through the pipelines in the Ukraine. Now they seem obselete.

But alas a bypass with the almost completed, but stifled and red-tapped by a European Union bureaucracy. Which I understand is incomprehensible (the red tape that is..)

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nord_Stream

    https://www.nord-stream.com

    And from a Russian perspective…

    http://tass.com/infographics/7275

Natural gas has been one of those things placed on the list that European countries are not allowed to buy from Russian — sanctions and the politics of wiping out competition and a quickly growing Russian economy with the stroke of a pen. But most are going their own way ignoring the sanctions. Especially when the winters are colder and longer, and populations are intolerant of these sanctions.

Tickled me a bit when Britain ran our of gas this winter, and had to swallow some crow and an ingenious Russian government sold them more gas to get them through a rather severely cold period in Britain — two weeks later the English were back on the horse accusing the Russians of the assassination of that rat spook and his daughter — with of all things a nerve agent lol.

All this equals a tough road for a flagging American economy — all that money invested into creating a huge natural gas surplus in the US during the Obama years. All that frakking he allowed and lied about the destruction.

The Military Industrial Complex waging a weather war with the plunging most of the world and North American into a mini ice age. Geo-engineering of this winter must have cost a great fortune. And the longest winter since 13,000 BC.

Off course they are utilizing a possible Dalton Minimum of the sun that we are going through at present…with a solar index of 71, the solar wind down to 290 Km/s a spotless sun — that’s a loss of about 30% of the irradiance of the sun. And with the on-going artificial global dimming and geo-engineering of winter.

This has been the 168th day below zero up here were I am in Saskatchewan. We have lost two month of summer this year from a extended winter, according to the latest Almanac. Winter is lasting further and further into the year, snow is laying on the land longer and longer into the year, white reflecting back into space the weaken power of the sun — and a gas war in Syria rages on.

Trump said we are pulling out of Syria. Then, three days later. President Assad’s forces allegedly used chemical weapons on their own civilian citizens. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense…. lol

Trump should stop watching the MSM news and start watching the Alex Jones show and reading Jon Rappoport articles for real news.

But Trump has been a very busy busy man all of his life and still is.
And, he is surrounded by Deep State swamp creatures who advice him, what could possibly go wrong?

Trump is criticized 24 hours a day, either by the left or by the right it is almost enough to drive a man crazy. . This country is so divided.and beyond repair.

Anyway, Trump made a real bad decision here. I hope he will realize it soon. He was doing so much good for the country and now, he blew it. It is so sad.

But I think he can make a comeback,
    at least I hope so..

Everyone has to understand that there was an Israeli neocon coup with the election of Trump. Trump was fully funded by Israeli firsters like billionaire Adelson etc In fact Trump tweeted to Netanyahu that help was coming to Israel right before his inauguration. At the same time Saudi princes who were also aligned with the democratic party in the USA were arrested and or imprisoned allowing an Israeli aligned prince to take power. Trump who gave Jerusalem to Israel is basically carrying out the Israeli plan which involves starting a war against Lebanon and Iran. Trump is keeping troops in Syria to complete the Greater israel project through war. US will try to avoid war with Russia if they can but they certainly are putting pressure with chemical attack claims and punishing them through economic sanctions. As far as Q is concerned, I think he is disinfo.

On second thought, maybe Trump did the right thing

We all know that the globalist want Trump to invade and take Assad out of office to destabilize Syria so the USA can remain at war for ever.

But, Trump probably knew that it was a False flag. So, he just did limited target attacks and nothing more.

I am sure that the globalists wanted a real invasion. Trump did not gave it to them. So, Assad can now stay in power.

Why not? That would have been a brilliant move. Who knows?

I am still standing for Trump until proven wrong.

i know that many believe the short term answer is ISrael, but, ISIS will prevail if the U.S. and Russia have a major battle over this. Once they are crippled ISIS will continue unabated to unite the Arab world into a hardline caliphate.

With Turkey aligned with the Rebels we have the capacity to fake chemical attacks and there have been some that said Turkey has provided some chemicals to the rebels already, Turkey also, would benefit if the U.S. and Russia battle….

the fact that the U.S. under the deep state of Obama and Hillary, were helping Iran get Nuclear capabilities, shows that the deep state and globalists are not entirely on the side of ISreal.

If the secular governments, like Assad, go, then a huge wave of Muslim martyrs will then attack Israel in a move to establish their caliphate over the entire region….strategically, for the caliphate, the U.S. and Russia must be provoked to a conflict, and the fools running these two governments are falling for it

  19. ….And the pantomime continues. Excellent article, Jon.

I, for one, am glad you mentioned Israel (Saudi is a “convenient appendage”), but where you find the real pharisaic black heart is in Islamic extremism.

Did you know that Mohamed (he married a “Jewish heiress”) failed to omit a single Jewish Torah command from his Qu’ran? Weird that, given it was a supposed “alternative religion”. Unlike prophetic Gnostic Christianity, Islam is “instructive”.

  20. Bruce Wayne says:

As for evidence, you have to wonder why the press, especially can allow this to go on. Since it will be their families that are wiped out during a Nuclear conflict with Russia. They act as if it can’t happen, like idiots:

I remember Hillary and Kerry and even Mc Caine and John Kerry all openly talking about a first strike against Russia, over the Ukraine and then we are concerned that Russia may have tried to influence our election while we pay assassins and even arm them to kill their Presidents…..the epitome of Arrogance that one day will take the live of your entire families.

This Syrian episode is proof that our media is not concerned with truth, for if they would simply have entered the region with Russia and the U.N. first, they might have actually found the real identity of the attackers, and many of us bet that it was not Assad>

Their MSM will bury your complaints. They also control the Federal Reserve Bank (Which is their National Bank, not that of the United States). As they can print money out of thin air, they also control Wall St, Big banks, Big oil, Big media, Big pharma, the US Military Industrial Complex, Hollywood, Las Vegas and many Congressmen and Senators from both side of the aisle.

Since 1913, with the enactment of the Federal Reserve Act, their control of America is now complete and their next agenda is to control the world after starting WW3. This is hard to believe? Read about “The Hidden Tyranny” here: http://www.rense.com/general66/rosen.htm

ROBERT FISK was on the ground in Douma (this is the man that reported on the white phosphorus used by “coalition” forces (ie the US) on civilians of Fallujah..he has a long track record of credibility, unlike the US pre4ss which NDAA gave permission back in 2012 to use PROPAGANDA AND PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE AGAINST AMERICANS..whiich is why you see the press screaming about Russian influence in our elections…they almost always accuse others of what they are doing, standard operating procedure of projection and scapegoating.

Robert Fisk says that children were being brought to the hospital he visited because the munitions and shelling were creating dust making them having coughing fits..that one idiot seeing the children cough started a panic by yelling “gas, gas, gas”..the ohysicians at the hospital were genuinely puzzled when he asked about a gas attack- there were none.

Watching the lying sack of s**t press parrot what the war department and the pentagon have told them to say, is INFURIATING.

How many more people have to die so that Uncle Scam’s corporate johns can line their pockets with the nation’s wealth?
How much more BLOOD FOR MONEY are we going to endure?

following the link back to zerohedge is interesting, I often find links there you won’t ever see on any MSM sites (visitors here probably realize how deceitful they are)

the thing that always bothers me about matters Syrian is, they never even talk about all that barrel-bombing, etc. ? Like that was OK?

      • petergrafstrm says:

If you mean the Syrian governments defending Syrias independence against the foreignsponsored terroristinvasion, it was ok.
Any military operation may produce unintended sideeffects but in the case of Syria, it is about the continued existence of one of the few tolerant cultures. Assads father was also demonized for throwing out the muslim brotherhood. The number of casualties were 1500 whereof the MBs where less than 500. If he and later his son had failed, Syria was intended to be a breedingground for further terrorplans against Russia and China. And these terrorists are just a mercenary army for the angloamericans. Cannonfodder to waste.
And the talk of barrel bombs is ridiculous. As if cruise missiles would be more benign.

  24. ellemy says:

Wait….what monster can attack it’s own people with chemicals causing death to babies and civilians? Why, isn’t that the tyrannical government of the USA waging chemical warfare on its own citizens? Remember vaccines, chem trails. drinking water pollution, food supply chemical irradiations, Big PHARMA’s host of deadly precriptions meds, among a host of other things. Ah, what feigned disgust by the DC trollers and oligarchs withcash lined pockets for hire. But who in the world will defend the citizens of this coutnry who are poisoned everyday? Who will bomb our leaders, to oust them from their tyranny? There are 3 fingers pointing right back at these hypocritical despots.

The message of the fake-news is not purposefully aimed at general public but for those thrieving for power: If you do not worship and believe anything those in power tell, your career is cut here.

The general populae does not matter. They do not use the power. Political, military or practically any.
