Why I love schools that ban books

Why I love schools that ban books

Let’s start here. In 2016, as US News reports, “The Portland Public Schools Board on Tuesday decided to ban any classroom materials that cast doubt on climate change. The resolution passed unanimously and requires that textbooks and other material purchased by the district present climate change as a fact rather than theory. Material will also need to present human activity as one of the phenomenon’s causes.”

This is good news. Why? Because a school system has asserted how it wants education to be managed. This is how children will be taught. No tap-dancing around the issue. Here it is. Boom. Out in the open. If you don’t like it, too bad.

If you don’t like it as a parent, take your child out of the Portland system. Launch home schooling. Start your own private school. Move out of Portland to another public school district.

Let’s go all the way back to the beginning of the American public-education system and Thomas Jefferson, who tried (and failed) to get a bill passed in the Virginia legislature. Jefferson:

“But if it is believed that these elementary schools will be better managed by…[any] general authority of the government, than by the parents within each ward, it is a belief against all experience.…No, my friend, the way to have good and safe government, is not to trust it all to one, but to divide it among the many, distributing to every one exactly the functions he is competent to.”

Jefferson’s vision was hundreds of small wards within each state. Each ward would have its own public school, and the parents—not the government—would manage it and fund it.

If, in one school, the parents decide children will learn the moon is a painted illusion on the sky, so be it. If they decide that stones can speak or logic is a European plot against human reason, so be it. If they decide to assemble a list of a thousand banned books, which must be burned, so be it.

With this sort of vast decentralization, it wouldn’t be long before disgruntled parents within a ward would break away and start their own school.

The opposite system is federal. Federal mandates, funding, programs, curriculum.

Education run by the individual states is hardly better. These governments are also huge and demanding.

I don’t care what excuses parents come up with, in order to opt out of taking charge of education. It’s their burden, whether through home-schooling, by creating and sustaining their own private schools for their children, or deciding which schools to send their kids to. The responsibility is theirs.

The usual caterwaul goes this way: “But many, many parents aren’t equipped to understand what goes on in the classroom. We need government-run schools to make sure children receive a good education.”

Baloney. Since when is it necessary to design an entire school system around the ignorance of parents?

Why not say most parents don’t know how to raise their children, and therefore the state must take over that function, too?

Well, if you took a few hours to research the work of Child Protective Services bureaucracies around the US, you’d realize this is, in fact happening. The brutal overreach of these agencies, in many cases, amounts to kidnapping. On false pretexts, the State takes children and dumps them into foster care, where violent abuse and high-dose drugging with toxic psychiatric meds is endemic.

Face it, the government loves parents who say they don’t understand education, medical treatment, child-rearing—whatever responsibility parents are willing to abdicate, it’s a cause for celebration in government circles.

The State promotes a consensus of cluelessness and victimhood.

If I were a top federal bureaucrat, I’d sponsor a program (a few billion dollars ought to cover it) to investigate and discover the most ignorant set of parents in America, the mother and father who can’t think their way out of a wet paper bag. I would profile those parents from head to toe, and based on the information gleaned, I would then form 1000 federal programs (adequately staffed) to assume all the child-rearing functions those parents can’t perform AND IMPOSE THOSE FUNCTIONS ON ALL FAMILIES AND CHILDREN IN AMERICA.

“It takes a village.” And this is the kind of village we’re really talking about. Not some African tribal outpost. A federal ghetto.

So good work, Portland, in banning all books that question climate change. My only problem is you haven’t gone far enough. You should have daily chanting sessions for all the children: CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL, CLIMATE CHANGE IS REAL, intoned for a half-hour after lunch. Perhaps you can attach electrodes to the children’s heads and produce readouts of secretly dissenting young minds in the classroom, and shunt those kids off to a Chinese-style re-education facility and call it “enrichment.”

Then, perhaps, more parents in your district would wake up and grab their kids and run for the hills and start their own schools, because they can’t deny what you’re doing any longer.

Yeah good work Portland. Way to hide something.

Yay, Portland! Capital of the state that doesn’t think people can be trusted to pump their own gas. So of course, teachers and parents cannot be trusted to with the content of kid’s learning. Especially when the <> future of our planet is at stake. Too risky.

What a GREAT article. Thanks, Jon!

Not to worry… chip insertion for all…Why, right now, people are voluntarily signing up for it.

    This is yet another example of how important it is to “purchase” the minimum number of “Shabbos Goi” needed to force a desired outcome on a matter;
    economic
    educational
    “historical”
    moral
    “scientific”

    Money certainly DOES make the world go ’round as is evidenced by the same treachery used after Jekyll Island to foist fractional reserve Central Banking on what is essentially an “idiot culture” within Sewer Nation;

Perhaps the above exposed bit of chicanery will help a few see how these “scientific fact” are ultimately embraced by a delusional culture.

Thanks Jon, so true that the system is not working for the 99%. If people haven’t heard of Alan Watt, I’d highly recommend getting acquainted. Here is one of his videos called ‘A Globalist Agenda for a Dumbed Down Domesticated Society.’ Really worth the watch. Don’t shy away because of its’ length. 🙂

As old as I am, have seen them rewrite history. Same thing as banning books.

Our homeschooled son could never socialize with public-schooled kids his age because the mindset was so different. He felt they had no real values. Despite he shunned much learning besides math and science because it was boring, his dad taught him auto mechanics which we discovered he had an amazing talent for. He now self-teaches which is something we didn’t gain until much later than his 22 years.

In the fifth grade we read Animal Farm. Later in the 10th grade we read 1984.
I am sure those are no longer in the curriculum.
I am very thankful for all of those teachers warning us about the global soviet aka globalism.
These books by Eric Blair (George Orwell) will be the first on the pyre in the glorious people’s republik of Portland. Forward! The Great Leap Forward.

My daughter is in her final year in high school in Sydney Australia and they are reading 1984. The problem is they are made to analyse certain aspects of it and in my opinion it stops them from being able to really think about the content on it’s own.. although when they first started reading it we had a few ‘robust’ conversations about what it was really about. It’s like having to analyse art.. you lose the real meaning behind it because you’re not allowed to have your own opinion and in the end you have to do what you have to do to get the mark.

  10. Wally says:

My school was like that too. They let us elementary children know early on that the “real education” wasn’t for us, but the Gate (elite) kids because “one day they will be the leaders and your bosses.”

Taught me right away that school was nothing but a gigantic waste of time.

  11. Surely isn’t this trivial, Jon?

Any fool can see “global warming” is nonsense. I am more concerned about the so-called “holocaust” being used to “justify” the massacre or displacement of indigenous peoples of Palestine.

    How did Hitler put it?

“Tell a lie, but make sure it is a big one and tell it over and over. People [then] will surely believe it.”

ANYWAY WE CAN TEACH OUR CHILDREN THE REAL TRUTH ABOUT SEPTEMBER 11 2001

    • Greg C. says:

No, they get to see the cartoon images: planes magically melting into buildings, drilling nice neat hole into the Pentagon. Ridiculous fake smoke, papers magically raining down onto the streets of NY, unscorched. Three towers imploding into themselves in one day, one not even hit by a cartoon plane. Hijacker’s passport found, intact, on the sidewalk. These images are the consensus truth now.

  13. truth1 says:

Superb reporting and analysis. We are going backwards. Its almost as if being able to take care of our selves, we then degenerate to the point where we need diaper training again. In the 60s, Most all moms stayed at home, but they did not do anything except watch TV, visit neighbors or go out with another mom who has a car she can use. Many did not have but 1 car and when a wife needed the car, she would drive the hubby to word and pick him back up at quitting time.

Teach kids? No Way. We went out to play and could have done anything. But we did not know our options back then, say 64 or 65 thru maybe 70. But in the 70s some moms were working. as time passed, more and more went to work. Some stopped breeding and just worked.

With both working, of course, kids will be taken care of by strangers or be latch key kids. My brother and I were the first latch key kids in our neighborhood, me starting in 67 and my brother in 68. Some schools have made Grammar school girls or middle school girls get naked and be examined by a male doctor without parental permission. More and more liberties are assumed and forcefully taken. Now governments lay claim to knowing better than parents what is best for their children. It not matter of who knows better. Its a matter of a child being a real product of their parents, who own them by all rights.

But at no point did parents ever get indignant and protest or seek court action. I’m afraid it is too late, now. the government has gotten real bold and not real crime against a child has to be committed. Just teaching them in some way different what the government would like, is all it takes to lose a child now. In the UK its even worse. “possible future emotional harm” is grounds to taking children away from parents, permanently. Let me explain that. No physical injury is needed to justify stealing a child. “possible means that it may never happen. But that it could or might, is enough grounds to steal the children. And there are a number videos on youtube showing showing children being taken, crying and screaming and parents crying and protesting, too.

Emotional harm is all it takes. Hurt feelings. No degree or description of definition or boundaries for what constitutes emotional harm. If they want your kids, they can say, a neighbor heard your child crying . . . and take it. I’m not lying. So really, their law says because it could happen, we will assume it will and will take them now. And off they go to waiting perverts and Satan worshipers or be sent to foster care to be abused and raped with the government protecting the faster care couple or institution.

Some will say, that will never happen in the USA. Ah hahahahahaha You got to be kidding me. It will happen. Here are my predictions. They will have a drill whereby they keep the kids for an overnight and try to make it fun. maybe it will be done once every quarter year of school. Maybe a field trip over night, teachers only. No parents allowed. Maybe middle school and high school kids will go on a week long visit to another country.

Let me talk about what Hitler did. Lebensborn had the teens come to camp for the summer. They “encouraged” the teens to have sex. Well, they did not much encouragement at that age. One couple came, hearing rumors and the daughter told them in essence to beat and they protested, the Gestapo would be visiting them. The parents did not argue, They knew the threat was real.

Some schools in the UK parents in the UK are prostituting the students to the public and the teachers partake, too, along with the rest of the staff. The UK has always had a far more abusive system toward the poor, children, or hated groups like the Irish. Slaves, maids, house servants, suffered from the prerogatives of their masters.

We are not that far away. We have never said no to the government yet. I do not expect that to change and the government does not expect it ti change, either. So say good bye to your kids while you still have the chance cause once they are gone, You’ll never see them again.

serious law demands that only the worst of crimes are punished like Murder, stealing, rape, severe beating, torture. Law has never allowed anyone to suggest that some might someday commit a crime and so should be locked up. Those were the good old days. Now, just the possibility is all it might take. or the harm of hurt feelings.

Regarding government, give them an inch or an open door, and they will take a mile and rip the door off its hinges and chip it up. The brave new world, boys and girls. The likes of which you have never seen before.

I would challenge this school system to put up or shut up.
IF they truly believe that climate change is caused by humans, they need to BAN ALL MEAT IN PUBLICA SCHOOLS NOW. Animal agriculture has been shown to create an enormous amount of green house gases…if you TRULY believe in anthropogenic climate change, you will INSIST that every student on be fed vegan meals…and you will cut the enormous meat and dairy federal subsidies off- full stop.

    • arcadia11 says:

that’s part of agenda 21. no meat for the masses, just the massahs. un ngos push veganism and even bill clinton said he had become a vegan (hmm) to make it trendy. don’t know if he understands that means you can’t eat children.

  15. krys says:

As usual, your sizzling, razor-sharp assessment of an issue is very well dissected for all to clearly understand and digest. Thanks again for the intelligent discourse material!
