How many drug scripts do doctors write per year?

Medical News Today reports that, in 2011, there was a modest uptick in the number of prescriptions written in the US.

The increase brought the total to: 4.02 billion.

Yes, in 2011, doctors wrote 4.02 billion prescriptions for drugs in America.

That’s an average of roughly 13 prescriptions for each man, woman, and child.

That’s about one new prescription every month for every American. (Update: the Kaiser Family Foundation reports that in 2016, 4,065,479,343 drug prescriptions were written by US doctors—an increase of 65 million.)

The Medical News Today article concluded, “…the industry should be heartened by the growth of the number of prescriptions and spending.” Yes, I’m sure the drug industry is popping champagne corks.

We’re talking about prescriptions here. We’re not talking about the number of pills Americans took. We’re also not counting over-the-counter drugs or vaccine shots.

Pharmacopoeia, a 2011 exhibition at the British Museum, estimated that “the average number of pills a person takes in his or her own lifetime in the UK is 14,000.” That’s as a result of prescriptions. Including over-the-counter drugs, the 14,000 number would swell to 40,000 pills taken in a lifetime.

What are the effects of all these drugs?

We are looking at a supreme Trojan Horse that is rotting out America and all other countries from the inside. Wars, no wars, economic deprivation, economic prosperity, the drugs continue to do their work, debilitating and ruining and terminating lives.

Many sources can be cited to confirm this assessment.

On January 8th, 2001, the LA Times published an article by one of the best medical reporters in the business, Linda Marsa: “When Good Drugs Do Harm.” Marsa quoted researcher Dr. David Bates, who indicated that, in the US, there are 36 million serious adverse reactions to medical drugs per year.

On July 26, 2000, the Journal of the American Medical Association published the most stunning mainstream estimate of medical-drug damage in history: “Is US health really the best in the world?” The author was Dr. Barbara Starfield, a respected public-health researcher at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health.

Starfield concluded that medical drugs were killing Americans at the rate of 106,000 per year.

That’s a million deaths per decade.

This is a conservative sketch of the Trojan Horse that has been placed in the center of every country in the world.

The pharmaceutical juggernaut will continue, no doubt about it. The only question is, how many people will wake up and seek another way?

The destruction of societies by medical drugs goes far beyond what some people call “over-prescribing.” This isn’t just a tilt in the wrong direction. It isn’t simply errors of judgment compounded by the number of doctors dispensing medicines.

Those are all polite terms suggesting the situation can be corrected through a show of good will and better judgment. That will never happen.

Countries of the world are literally being assaulted by pharmaceutical companies and their foot-soldier doctors. It’s chemical warfare.

To even begin to see light at the end of the tunnel, hundreds of millions of people must add themselves to the rolls of those who already are pursuing better health through natural means.

Not even the Nazis and their dearly beloved cartel, the monster IG Farben, dreamed of the day when the citizenry would line up and demand to ingest more and more life-destroying chemicals.

In case anyone thinks the FDA, the single US agency responsible for certifying drugs as safe and effective, has “overlooked the problem,” Google “FDA, Why Learn About Adverse Drug Events.” You’ll find the following statements on the FDA’s own site:

“Over 2 MILLION serious ADRs [Adverse Drug Events] yearly; 100,000 DEATHS yearly.”

The only thing missing is: “And we, the FDA, said the drugs were safe.”

Well, at one time, you could have found that statement on the FDA website.

Perhaps this is due to the unhealthy lifestyle of the American population? According to the World Health Organization, the weight of the Americans continues to increase cardiovascular disease and obesity as a result. That costs the US’s belated healthcare a lot! But that will be fake news 😉 In Europe, the move has been moving towards healthier behavior recently. Fewer sugar, less fat and more moving (what is American for curses in the church is Dutch proverb). A few liters of coke a day would already help. What less by car than by bicycle (oh, what’s that, a bike?).

In America, even if you want to eat healthy, non-gmo, non-poison-sprayed food, it’s almost impossible to find unless you are in a city.

obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, crippling posture, … all these are caused by the poison food, poison sprayed on the food, and poison in the food. this does not cost “US belated healthcare alot” (whatever that means).

all these things made money for US healthcare industry. big moneymakers. that’s why they’re everywhere and the food, plants, procedures that contribute to your actual health, not just the healthcare industry, are hard to find, too expensive, unavailable, or (like cannabis plant) illegal.

access denied for most people. not billary or obomber or any of the other hoaxsters.

it’s not practical to think americans can bike much of anywhere, those who want bikes can have them, it’s very well known in america about bikes. not a new idea. but everything is far apart, we travel with our families, haul stuff around. doesn’t work with bike unless it’s like a rickshaw, and someone pulls the fam around. now that i go for.

respect jon’s work, but all of this “nazi” propaganda must stop. thegreateststorynevertold.tv shows the real story of ww2. we were lied to about the nazi’s just as we’ve been lied to about these drugs. jon, why you promote this nazi lie? shame.

Am astounded every time I read of this and this newest version of what you’ve reported many times, Jon, is even more chilling. Much of the medical profession must also be practicing hypnotic suggestion on their patients – how vulgar!

I have several boxes of unused migraine drugs that the white coats gave me.
I know they love me and they never went into medicine just for a paycheck but these drugs make me feel awful which is why there are several unopened boxes.
Due to a traumatic brain injury as a toddler I have severe migraines that will last for up to 8 hours and they come with vomiting and hot flashes.
There is one “drug” I found that cures them instantly and that is…cannabis Indica.
Sadly this “drug” is not legal in this state as we have to set our clocks back 30 years and bow to a big pharma company that pretty much owns this state.
I always knew the fairy tale of physician do no harm and the Hippocratic oath are just that fairy tales.
Most doctors tell me to get out when I say what I use for treatment.

Great comment, Biff. Sadly, most doctors, politicians, teachers, police, judges, etc., promote themselves as smart and leaders. They are not smart enough to know the difference between a plant (grows in the ground) and a drug (manufactured, like alcohol drinks, prescriptions, meth, crack. I get thrown out of a lot of places by insisting that things be called by their right names.

It’s the scientist in me that won’t let go. And, supported by one of my heros: Clare Daly who says in Irish Parliament: Obama war criminal & hypocrite of the century.

it’s a plant. and somehow, this corporation has appointed itself as owner and lord master of all plants (people too). then they call it a drug. and all the stupids follow along. drug drug drug. drugs bad. not all drugs. some drugs. just the plants that are “drugs” are bad. other drugs, alcohol, etc., good. wtf? i go with Clare Daly we must call things by their right names.

Blessings be and glad you found cannabis indica.

You do not take her seriously? She is laughed at her own country. Belongs to a reliable badge of political movement which is not taken seriously in its own country. Wants back to the time the Pope ruled over Ireland and not the people. Something like Le Pen’s father in France or Alexander Gauland (AfD) in Germany. Do not listen to it seriously.

          • Rastafari says:

you do not want me to take what she says seriously? are you serious? haha. then you misdirect over to the pope, then saying the Irish people control Ireland. how absurd. she’s fringe? laughed at? mocked? yes, sounds like my kind of gal.

what was it she said here that you disagree with?

      • Janice says:

I ave been checking out cbd oils what is the difference in this & the indica plant for migraines

        • Rastafari says:

cbd oil is made from GMO cannabis developed at the U of Minnesota in 2010. they breed the THC out of the plant because the THC is where actual healing happens. CBD is one part of the plant, now they made a whole plant have mostly cbd via genetic engineering.

THC in combo with other ingredients in cannabis indica/sativa, produce true healing, like curing cancer, diabetes, alzheimers, etc. That’s why they take the THC out. And give you a symptom-fixing thing like CBD. yes, you may get a little pain relief but if you want to fix the problem, must use whole-plant cannabis extracted into resin. Rick Simpson oil, etc. Not fake CBD-GMO.

        • Rastafari says:

for migranes, cook 2 ounces of high grade on slow simmer (below 260 degrees) in castor oil or coconut oil. strain thru support-hose pantyhose toe. the oil itself will collect in a jar, then use the bag of cooked buds on forehead. let the oil drain out good, and when you get headache, put on the bag and headache will move into the bag of weed. works every time.

My family manages to go a year or more at a time with no prescriptions. And there’s been plenty of times I’ve gotten a prescription but never filled it when I came home and checked out what it was. Somebody is getting a lot of prescriptions!

  7. procomptor says:

For information on changing your diet and promoting better health visit Dr. Mercola on line. Diet and exercise is where good health begins. Next you actually need to read the fine print or on line information on any and all prescription drugs you take.

At 61 years young I find myself taking more and more natural herbs and supplements. When I do need a prescription drug I supplement it with a natural alternative and then eliminate it if possible. I find that folks get on a particular drug and after that they are on it for life. This need not be in 4 out of 5 people without a terminal illness if they spent the time researching and changing bad habits!

Good article Jon. I hope folks start looking at natural news and natural remedies for so many different health issues they find in normal life. Exercise and more natural living will lead to less dangerous prescriptions in your life as you get older…..mike

  8. JB says:

    What I’d like to know:

    1. What portion of these prescriptions are psychotropic?

2.How many deaths now occur in Psychiatric hospitals since the 1990’s?

“In the 14-year period between 1950 and 1964, more American deaths occurred in state and county mental institutions than in all of the nation’s armed conflicts beginning with the Revolutionary War and ending with the Persian Gulf War. Between 1965 and 1990, the total number of mental-hospital inpatient deaths exceeded the number of battle deaths in the same wars by 70 percent. Inpatient deaths topped out at 1,103,000 during this 25-year period, compared with 650,563 recorded deaths in battles.” — Kelly Patricia O’Meara: “The Forgotten Dead of St. Elizabeth’s”, Insight Magazine, June 16, 2001

“The total number of iatrogenic [induced inadvertently by a physician or surgeon or by medical treatment or diagnostic procedures 2003] deaths is 783,936. The 2001 heart disease annual death rate is 699,697; the annual cancer death rate is 553,251. It is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States.–The New Dawn Counterfeit Culture.

My son recently broke his leg badly in a freak accident. He said the pain was excruciating beyond anything he had ever experienced. But he was determined to limit his ingestion of pain-killer meds to the lowest potency. He is now 3 weeks ahead of expected recovery/therapy and not using pain meds at all, with only a mild sedative at night to get a good rest.

  11. PJ London says:

Extract from my novel Saddam’s Sister :

‘Do you know the greatest disaster to befall the pharmaceutical industry?
Smallpox. By eradicating Smallpox, from the population, they wiped out a huge potential market and profit.
In Sri Lanka, in 1948, there were 2.8 million malaria cases and 7,300 malaria deaths. They introduced widespread DDT use. Malaria fell to just 17 cases and zero deaths in 1963. From 2.8 million to 17. After DDT use was discontinued, Sri Lankan malaria cases returned to 2.5 million in the 1968 and 1969, and the disease remains a killer in Sri Lanka today.
Now there are many arguments and theories why DDT was discontinued and is not sprayed widely, but it is clearly a matter of fact that spending on anti-malarial drugs for 17 people is far, far less than spending on the drugs for 2.5 million people. Extrapolate those numbers world wide and you would go from 40 million sufferers per year to about 300 cases, hardly enough to base an industry on the manufacture of anti-malarial medicines.
The only major anti-DDT campaign was based on the story that the egg shells of wild birds in North America were getting thinner because of the toxicity of DDT. As the Americans say ‘You are shitting me.’ The Brits are more polite, ‘You are kidding, right?’, 39 million 999 thousand 700 sufferers because some bloody bird has a thin egg shell.’

  12. slydog1960 says:

    Can you say drug dealers?

Then they have the audacity to say you can’t smoke a joint or we are going to arrest you. That’s messed up folks. We the people need to get a handle on these control freak criminals who in reality just want to kill any competition.

Pretty soon it will be “Only your doctor can tell you what to eat, if your sitting there with a bag of Cheetos in your lap call your doctor immediately and ask them is this right for you.”
